JQuery :: Selecting Active Drop-down Option By Category?

I'm trying to set an option of a drop-down as active, regarding the category. I added the category name for this to the body class="category-XXXX-XXXX". What I need is something like an array to say:
if == category-AAAA-AAAA then option value=1 is selected
if == category-BBBB-BBBB then option value=2 is selected
if == category-CCCC-CCCC then option value=3 is selected
and so on. Unfortunately, I'm getting totally confused where to actually start and how to do that. I know, it is for sure out a line to ask for a finished script, but I'm sure someone can give me a hint, on how to do that.

I have an accordian list much like the example here : Say for instance i have page links under the heading 'Section 2' of that demo.How can i make it so that when you visit a page from these links 'Section 2' is now active (by that i mean expanded, instead of the first item as default)I am looking at this information provided on the same page , but it's not really making sense to me.Selector for the active element. I created an accordian menu which includes categories, sub categories and sub sub categories. Once you hover(css) on one of the menu options there is a hovering effect. What i would like to achieve now is that once a menu option is chosen that option remains highlighted (:active) until another menu option is chosen.

I am asking jQuery to tell me which drop down option is selected in a drop down list - like this:
I would like to check if this was successful before I proceed. What are the possible return values for this statement?
If no id exists.
If no option is selected.
If some other problem occurred.
In these cases am I expecting a null return; an undefined return, a false return value?
And, based upon the complete set of return possibilities, what would be the best and most comprehensive tests I could apply to cover every base.

I wish to have options show or not show depending on the options selected previously. I think I would be right in saying this needs to be client side and think it must be javascript that is needed here. Either way what method should I use and what is the coding needed to do this.

Can someone tell me why this snippet of code does not work in any version of IE yet works fine in Firefox and Chrome?

It should be creating a set of options for a the select statement with id "sub_class", which it does.However, it should also be setting the selected option to the value I pass as 'selsubclassId', which only seems to work in FF or Chrome. In IE, the selected item always defaults to the first option.It's pretty basic PHP and jQuery. Is IE that stupid? Do we have a workaround?

I'd like to have an alert of some type, either standard alert or a hidden div, show up when a user selects an option in a select element.
For instance, if a select element has 5 options in it and the user chooses the first one, they would get an alert that says "You have chosen the first option". I'm confident this is something that can be done with a few lines of code, but I'm not sure where to begin.
Here's the logic - I'm just not sure how to write the syntax...
If ("#select option") changes and ("#select option:eq(0):selected"), fade in the div ("alert").

Im working on some drag and drop logic similar to the jQuery shopping cart example, but I've run into a small hitch. If I double click on the LI within my 'dropped' area it causes them to become draggable again. I specifically set up drag to only work from one source list, so Im unsure how double clicking is causing this bug?

I have the following function to pre-select an option in a select box. If I leave the alert in, the selection is made and everything is fine. If I take out the alert, it works sometimes - other times it leaves the select box on the first option. I don't want to leave the alert in.

So I've got some simple javascript functions to set dropdown selections based on index. But I've also have a field that needs to be selected based on its text (possibly value, but text would be better).The current code is really just based around this line:document.getElementById("Option3")[myOption1].selected = true;and what I'm looking for is:document.getElementById("Option3").getIndexByText("TheSelectorText").selected = true;Is there a built in function for this? Is there a method I can call to click on a particular <option> within a <Select>?
I've got a select with several <option> lines,and I have the ID of the one I want to click, but have tried .click() but that doesn't work. It always picks the top of the list, and reading up on it, it sounds like the click isn't what I'd choose. Is there another?

I'm trying to remove an option in a dropdown menu so it's default is not Select. I'm using jquery-latest.js.This is the html:

It doesn't seem to be working. When I do it without an attribute it replaces the lot of options which isn't what I'm after.

To cut down on the user having to scroll through all 400 options I have included a text control that acts as a "Quick Index" and with each char entered into the text box the options are narowed. I have a simple form:

I need to make the page redirect to the appropriate section when an option is selected (e.g. when 'contents' is selected, the page redirects to 'contents.htm', etc).

which shows reports output formats in dropdown box & once i select option as "PDF" or any output and click finish button, then report o/p should open.I got sample script from forums. where this code gives me alll report output option in dropdown box, but when i select option from dropdownbox. automatically o/p opens.Since i am not java developer i am not aware of what to do, I am into more of reporting.. In this code i noticed they used on change function. is there way we can change to on select & finish button..
