View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two select lists that have option lists that are created from external XML lists that contain course offerings available at different locations. Each location has a different set of course offerings. When a user selects a location, the javascript code will hide / show the option entries that correspond to the course offerings for that location. If a user selects a course offering, the javascript code will show / hide the locations that offer those courses.
Click events are attached to each of the Option entries with the code below. The code works correctly with Firefox and Opera, but the click events are never triggered in IE, Safari or Chrome. The Chrome debugger seems to indicate that the click events get set up in Chrome (although I am not sure where JQuery saves event handler data). Each option entry has a unique ID tag.

Wrote what I though would be a simple script to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, feet to meters... and vice versa. It uses onchange="calculate(this)" in the input fields, so when the individual enters a number and hits tab or enter it automatically calls the calculate() function and does the needed conversion. I'm passing (this), 'this' being the input field, and calculate() pulls out the needed data for the conversion.
It works great in Firefox. But in IE or Opera, the calculate() function never even gets called. I've searched for an answer, but to now avail. I haven't written much JavaScript and am not entirely sure what's causing the problem. Kinda makes me think of Java, where if you want to use action listeners, you need to first instantiate a listener object. Is there somekinda event listener in JavaScript that Opera and IE want instantiated? Here is my code in it's entirety.

The following code opens the desired IE page if you are using IE, FF, Chrome or Safari(IE).. Otherwise, if you're not using IE, you get a message that you need to use it (just the way it has to be for now.) The function doesn't work in Opera -- I'm using 9.63.

I have some simple code to have one div bounce around inside another. It works fine on Firefox and IE, but for some reason in Opera and Chrome it only moves left to right.
This suggests that Chrome and Opera allow you to dynamically set style.left but not style.top. This seems odd to me.
why this won't run as intended on Chrome or Opera?

Before image upload I want users to preview their choice. For some reason JS doesn't work with all browsers except FF.When a user selects file, JS preview function should insert it into #addPreview div where preview.gif is located as a default picture. If everything goes OK preview.gif is replaced with new selected file. Otherwise wrong size or file type is detected. Alert message appears in #addPreviewAlert div.Here's my code:

Tell me why Firefox works as desired, but all other browsers don't allow any preview. They don't show any JS error messages and alerts either.

Edit: Changed dataType2 usage in 3rd line to be a regular variable and not a jQuery variable. Also, this seems to not be working in jQuery 1.5.2 either and only for Opera. I had originally thought this was working for 1.5.2 but I just re-tested and it is not. What happens is that dataType2 is undefined after the call to pull the attribute. I've also now tried .attr('[nodeName="ns1:reference"]') as well as using the same with .prop() in jQuery 1.6.1

I'm using the following chunk of code to find images located in a specific span and then I'm setting the span width to equal the width of the image that's inside of it. This is for adding captions to images through an editor that our writers use. By forcing the span to equal the same width of the image, the writers can just enter whatever captions they want and don't have to worry about manually adding <br /> tags to format the captions correctly.

The SELECT does not fill with ANY options. It is blank. Worse, I can turn on DragonFly in an effort to trace it down, and the problem disappears. The options are displayed as they should. I have a .lload function that I use to work around caching problems in IE. Using this function in Opera does not fix the problem. I have no reason to believe, therefore, that this is a caching issue.
Setting maxlength attribute of input[type=text] or input[type=password] does not work as expected.In Firefox and Opera if maxlength is not set the field.attr('maxlength') == -1. But if I try to set field.attr('maxlength', -1) it is being set to 0 instead.

I am using the lightbox script from "Jquery:Novice to Ninja" and it works very well in Firefox and Opera but not in IE8.
The problem, I think is because I am using PHP to pull the picture names from a file. There are around 40 pictures so I didn't want to name them all manually.[code]...
This easily produces a nice page of thumbnails and clicking on any brings up the bigger picture in lightbox but not in IE.
It seems that IE needs another set of pictures to load from so the filename od the <a href=image> needs to be different to the <src=image> filename which makes more work.
Is there a work around to make this work as well in IE as it does in firefox.

Also as an aside. When the lightbox starts it removes the scroll bar which has the effect of moving the page to the right. Is there a way to add a right margin to replace the scroll bar to stop this happening?
I am playing with malsup's corners and I am getting strange nudges on both top corners in Opera, IE6 and Konquerer when applied to nested elements (to achieve a cornered border). I am using exactly the same code as on the demo page: "$(this).corner("round 8px").parent().css ('padding', '4px').corner("round 10px")". Strangely this only appears when the radius is more than 10px and
div.outer's padding is less than 3px. All corners are rounded, just at the top div.outer still seems to have little develish horns.

I'm tryng to develop a link tracker, something like google analytics. The goal is to get a command like this:

Now i developed a javascript that could do just what i need but the problem is it doesn't work in every browser as it should be. Because i want to track a link click i need to make a request to my server to say that the link has been clicked. The first problem i had was that i needed to make a cross domain ajax call. But this is fixed by using JSONP. Now my code looks like this:

The first idea was that i wouldn't do anything in the success of the jsonp call and just let the request go, but because this didn't work when i clicked on an external link, i changed it to wait on a response before opening the link. The problem with this code is that it doesn't work in Opera, no request is being send to the server Now i know that JSONP mimics the ajax call by adding a script tag to the page which loads the script of the given url. Now i think when i do this in Opera the dynamically loaded javascript isn't executed. In Firefox, IE, Chrome, Safari it works but not in Opera.
Another idea i had was by dynamicly adding an image to the page. But this has the same problem in Opera and i was unable to track an external link in Safari and Chrome (Webkit.
Stumbled onto this one: retrieving the margin doesn't seem to work in Firefox or Opera. This is code I'm using, which works fine in Chrome, Safari and IE:

I am not a guru jquery coder and still have to learn alot, recently while learning jquery AJAX I have bumped into a weired issue, I have a apge right and in this page I have a dropdown list for people to select an RSS channel that they wish to know more about, the dropdownlist ahs an onChange event which when triggered it will get the value of the selected item in teh dropdownlist and post it to the other 'mini' pages that load on the same page via AJAX by using the GET method - ie: im passing the parameters like a normal querystring would. The problem is that when I assign the dropdown value to a variable called dropdown in the following line of code "var dropdown =document.getElementById('ddlChannelSelect');" it works in IE but not in the other browsers, I have debbugged this in FireBug and it seems that the variable dropdownlist is not actually getting the value of the actual dropdownlist nad it says 'null' or sometimes 'undefined'. Am I doing something wrong ? why is it that it is working in IE but not in other browsers ? can you pls give me a solution with some examples ?
