JQuery :: Hover / Mouseover Events On Touch Devices
Sep 22, 2011
Do you know of any best practice here?Expanding on the question, if an end user is viewing content with touch-based device, such as an iX or Android X, then hover type events (such as hover/hoverIntent, mouseover, mouseout, mouseenter, mouseleave, and perhaps other events that I haven't listed) don't make sense.Forthwith, what's the best usability practice in lieu of these events?

I am looking for a snippet to use touch gestures in jquerymobile. The following snippets works fine but the page only slides to the left. How to swipe the page to left and right? (data-direction=reverse"?
<script type="text/javascript">
$('div.ui-page').live("swipeleft", function(){
var nextpage = $(this).next('div[data-role="page"]');
// swipe using id of next page if exists
if (nextpage.length > 0) {
$.mobile.changePage(nextpage, 'slide');
}});
$('div.ui-page').live("swiperight", function(){
var prevpage = $(this).prev('div[data-role="page"]');
// swipe using id of next page if exists
if (prevpage.length > 0) {
$.mobile.changePage(prevpage, 'slide', true);
}});
</script>

See this fiddle. [URL]. Hover over the circle, and note the mouse enter/leave notifications.
Now try this:[URL] This is the same code in 1.6.2. The hover events no longer work.
I don't believe this is related to the jquery.svg plugin, since the bug originally happened to me using the highcharts library, which creates and adds svg elements itself. I merely used jquery.svg for convenience in making the example, as I know little about svg.
This seems a bug to me, but I wanted to make sure. Is this a known and expected change in behavior?

I'm trying to do something like this:
http://papermashup.com/demos/jquery-sliding-div/
Except I want to use a mouseover or hover to trigger a drop down. Additionally I don't want to large div to disappear unless the user moves outside the large div and outside the "show/hide" link. I almost have it but want to jump to the chase. I'm wondering if this is trickier than I may realize. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for a plugin or some help. Looking to create a calendar which can be paged back and forth through months and years. Additionally I would like to add events to the calendar so when a day has an event it is coloured differently and when user hovers over the event details are shown in a tooltip.

I am looking for a way to simulate the actions of the hover (or mouseenter/mouseleave) whilst using the live method of binding (The items are dynamic). Is there a way to do this or will I need to use the 'old fashioned' method of unbinding and rebinding? I do not want to use a plugin.

I have code that sets mouseover effect on a icons on an imagemap. The icons also have a mousedown, mousemove and mouseup events coded with Javascript and dhtml associated with them. I used ASP and ADO to query a database that shows up in the mouseover functionality. When I click on any of my icons while the mouseover event is in effect, I get the error.
"The instruction at Ɔx7d50a0c0' referenced memory at Ɔx01018'. The memory could not be 'read'." the browser then crashes.
After upgrading client machines with XP SP2, the browser just crashes when I simulate the error. I don't have a clue where the problem is from. Any suggestions will be really appreciated.

I am struggling to figure out a way to allow one element
to be dragged, but still capture 'mouseover' events on
other elements. Code:
It's not much code, but it's probably too much to paste here.
The gist of it is, when a user clicks on element #1, I attach
the mousemove event to element #1. That event remains
attached until the user un-clicks (mouseup). During the time
the user is dragging element #1, however, element #2 doesn't
register the mouseover events it should.

I am reading values from a database into a table and I have it so that when the mouse is over a row the row is highlighted blue and when the mouse exits that row the row becomes white again - straight forward.
each row also has a check box with an onclick event and ultimately I would like when the checkbox is checked the row to be highlighted red and remain that colour. The problem is that the mouseover and mouseout events still fire. Is there way to disable these when the box is checked? Code:

I want to have a bit of html that looks like this (excluding the class/id's that I'll need): HTML Code:
<a href="#" title="whatever"><img src="/image/source.jpg" alt="whatever" /></a>
<div>content content content content content content content content content content content content </div>
I want the div to be hidden until someone hovers over the images. Then I want the top left corner of the div to be where the cursor is, and follow the cursor when it moves over the images.

My application reads an array of URLs in Javascript and displays them in a table. I need to create mouseover events for each of the links (just an alert message for now.) I have tried this a few ways, but for each one the mouseover event fires for each link before anything else is loaded on the page, and when the page is loaded, no link is displayed. Here are the two ways I've tried:
var cell1 = document.createElement("TD");
cell1.innerHTML = '<A HREF= ' + url + 'onMouseOver="' + alert("my alert box"); + '"> my page </A>';
cell1.innerHTML = '<A HREF= "' + url + '"> my page </A>';
cell1.onMouseOver = alert('alert');
I have also tried many variations of these including:

I have a small problem with a page I'm working on. I have an anchor tag inside a table that has a mouseover event that updates a contextual help box. I need to add a similar mouseover event to the anchor tag that does the same thing, but updates the help box with different text. The problem I have is that when the mouse is over the table, no matter if I move the mouse over the anchor, the help text only displays the message that is passed from the table's mouseover function call. I think the solution *may* be something to do with event bubbling, but I'm not exactly sure how to implement it. The code I'm dealing with is below:

Let's assume we have two divs:
[Code]...
DIV 2 is inside DIV 1. DIV 1 has mouse events (i.e. onmouseover, onmousemove). The problem is, when DIV 2 is over DIV 1, the mouse events don't fire. In my specific case, DIV 2 follows the mouse so it's always right below the mouse and always above DIV 1. How can I make the DIV 1 events fire?

I am trying to style a parent element with a hover state style. I want to change the background colour when hovered over. I cant edit the html as this is generated automatically from a cms.
HTML example
<td>
<a>
<div id=timetablemenu>Timetable</div>
[Code]....
This works fine but i need to add a rollover background colour change. I have tried timetablemenuTag.parentNode.parentNode.addClass="timetable2"; and adding CSS but this doesnt seem to work.

Hover effect is painfully slow IE (only IE) and table mouseover causes very high processor usage When you move the mouse over table elements flash animation stutters/pauses (making flash banners impossible)
You can se the page here: fondovi (http://investa.hr/fondovi) (there's a flash animation on the right side of the page (light grey/blue color))

I would like to know whether anyone can tell me which plattforms are supported by jQ Touch. On the homepage of jQ Touch it is said, that is "for mobile web development on the iPhone, Android, iPod Touch, and other forward-thinking devices" SO what is meant by that. Which other browsers are supported?

I've done a fair amount of PHP development, but am new to Jquery. What I'd like to do is develop a tablet web app that uses custom image buttons for numeric-only data entry to populate form text boxes. Basically, when an image button (0 - 9) is tapped by the user, then the text box having the focus gets that corresponding digit added. There will also be a "back" button to erase, and a "send" button to process the form. It looks like this should be possible to do using Jquery or Jquery UI, but again I'm a newbie with Jquery and am not sure how to proceed.

Is there a way to use jquery to detect any device with a touch screen?
Im using the jscrollpane but the handles drag in the wrong direction on touch screens like the ipad (in my opinion). As you can drag the main content (which works in the correct way), I want to hide the scroll bars if the device is a touch screen.
