Are Simultaneous Mouseover And Mousemove Events Possible?
Mar 17, 2006
I am struggling to figure out a way to allow one element
to be dragged, but still capture 'mouseover' events on
other elements. Code:
It's not much code, but it's probably too much to paste here.
The gist of it is, when a user clicks on element #1, I attach
the mousemove event to element #1. That event remains
attached until the user un-clicks (mouseup). During the time
the user is dragging element #1, however, element #2 doesn't
register the mouseover events it should.
The documentation for the mousemove event asserts that "Properties such as .clientX, .offsetX, and .pageX are available, but support for them differs between browsers. Fortunately, jQuery normalizes the .pageX and .pageY properties so that they can be used in all browsers." I would like to take advantage of this normalization but am working with a legacy system that _loads_ jquery but does not use jquery to bind events.
Does the normalization occur for _all_ events, so I can rely on it once jquery is loaded, or only for events bound through jquery?
Also, are there any other events, such as mousedown that include coordinate properties, and are they also normalized the same way by jquery?
I want to make my site more dynamic... but i dont find out how this works...
On my site there is at the left side the navigation bar and at the rigt side i want to put a photo. The photo should change when someone puts the cursor over the links in the left side.
I have code that sets mouseover effect on a icons on an imagemap. The icons also have a mousedown, mousemove and mouseup events coded with Javascript and dhtml associated with them. I used ASP and ADO to query a database that shows up in the mouseover functionality. When I click on any of my icons while the mouseover event is in effect, I get the error.
"The instruction at Ɔx7d50a0c0' referenced memory at Ɔx01018'. The memory could not be 'read'." the browser then crashes.
After upgrading client machines with XP SP2, the browser just crashes when I simulate the error. I don't have a clue where the problem is from. Any suggestions will be really appreciated.
I am reading values from a database into a table and I have it so that when the mouse is over a row the row is highlighted blue and when the mouse exits that row the row becomes white again - straight forward.
each row also has a check box with an onclick event and ultimately I would like when the checkbox is checked the row to be highlighted red and remain that colour. The problem is that the mouseover and mouseout events still fire. Is there way to disable these when the box is checked? Code:
My application reads an array of URLs in Javascript and displays them in a table. I need to create mouseover events for each of the links (just an alert message for now.) I have tried this a few ways, but for each one the mouseover event fires for each link before anything else is loaded on the page, and when the page is loaded, no link is displayed. Here are the two ways I've tried:
I have a small problem with a page I'm working on. I have an anchor tag inside a table that has a mouseover event that updates a contextual help box. I need to add a similar mouseover event to the anchor tag that does the same thing, but updates the help box with different text. The problem I have is that when the mouse is over the table, no matter if I move the mouse over the anchor, the help text only displays the message that is passed from the table's mouseover function call. I think the solution *may* be something to do with event bubbling, but I'm not exactly sure how to implement it. The code I'm dealing with is below:
Do you know of any best practice here?Expanding on the question, if an end user is viewing content with touch-based device, such as an iX or Android X, then hover type events (such as hover/hoverIntent, mouseover, mouseout, mouseenter, mouseleave, and perhaps other events that I haven't listed) don't make sense.Forthwith, what's the best usability practice in lieu of these events?
DIV 2 is inside DIV 1. DIV 1 has mouse events (i.e. onmouseover, onmousemove). The problem is, when DIV 2 is over DIV 1, the mouse events don't fire. In my specific case, DIV 2 follows the mouse so it's always right below the mouse and always above DIV 1. How can I make the DIV 1 events fire?
in a non-Flash enviroment; while waiting for images and style information, I've been working on a prototype to get the behavior down. So far this is what I've come up with.

I'm using the JQuery UI "Slide" plugin to try to get the image of a particular div to slide in from the left and the content to slide in from the right. However, at the moment I'm getting a weird jump effect (at least in Firefox and Chrome; I have not yet tested in IE) that I *think* has to do with the float on the left-hand image but I'm not sure. Does anyone know how I might get rid of this, or if there's a better/more efficient way to achieve this effect?(For the record, it *is* the same image for all four divs at the moment; I was just working on the behavior so I didn't spend a lot of time on it; it's a placeholder.)
There are three variations of code below, the desired effect is to have the function fired when the mouse if held down on an element. The first two fire as soon as the page is loaded, and the third one never fires at all
my dilemma at the moment is that I have produced a site where the client would like the logo colour/image to change on refresh which I have achieved by scouring the net for codes and altering them. Now, the client wants the shapes behind the sub-headings to match the current logo colour/image on refresh as well. This would mean if the logo changed to the blue logo, I'd need all the sub-headings to be blue, and vice versa for another 3 colours.I'm struggling to understand how I can achieve this. At the moment, I have a javascript inside the code of the index page allowing logo image change on refresh but need the sub-headings to change in sync too.
I'm currently doing on a project, frankly speaking i'm new in javascript only know the basics. I'm not even sure whether this thread is suppose to be here or under html.. I'm suppose to create some codes that enable a html page to load to the next html page when the mouse move from left to right within a specific time and distance(positive X coordinate) and also the other way round (right to left) once i figured out this. I've got an example online and edited it. Please take a look at my codes.

test01.html is just blank page created to make sure it loads. However i would like to load from test01 to another html page but no matter how i tried to edit the codes, there's errors. I cant possibly copying and pasting the exact codes to every page i want to load to right? And is it possible to sortof increase mouse sentivity such that i can most probably load to the next page in first few tries of moving the mouse on the first page. Is it common that when i launch the html on IE and Firefox somehow after showing the first page for maybe 1 second, it immediately jumped to 2nd page and i have to go back to 1st page to try out.
Several non-form input elements (a text field, a few buttons).
There is an "add file" and a "remove file" button. Whenever the "add file" is clicked, new_file_count is incremented and a form is created (ID: "nc-" + new_file_count, NAME: "ncform", enctype: "multipart/form data"). Whenever "remove file" is clicked, the last form is removed, and new_file_count is decrimented. Each form has a hidden submit element named "NEW_SUBMIT".
There is also a text field button, when it is clicked, a hidden field in each form is updated, along with the text in a span element within each form. This works properly.
Finally, there is the non-form "Check in documents" button. When this is clicked, the function LAC_NEW_CHECKIN_CLICK is called (see end of mail). This should iterate through each form, and submit it, and the alerts I put in the validation function would suggest it is doing that.
However, when the actual LAC_submit_checkin function is executed, the checkin is not being executed as AJAX (I'm redirected to the json output of the first form).
I am trying to "ajaxify" my site. Now I have one problem:
$("#posts").children().remove(); $("#tag-sidebar").children().remove(); $.each(data.Tags_Sidebar, function (indexInArray, valueOfElement) { var insert = $("<li>");
[Code]......
Now when I click one of those links (href1, href2, href3) generated, the click event won't execute! What's the problem? Also, is it right that I have to transfer the valueOfElement over, like I did? What does stopEventPropagation do? Prevent the href from being navigated to? That's what I am trying to do.
What trying to achieve is to have a div which when you mouseover a div and h4 within will change properties. This is working but when you mouseover the div and pass over either the border of the containing div or the h4 text the animate/fadeTo repeat again. Is someone able to tell what Im doing wrong? Also you may notice the function is effecting more than one container div at a time which is not what Im going for. Is there a way to seperate them like this or somehow?
I've tested across IE7,Firefox, Chrome, Safari and the only browser I experience this issue in is Opera. I have 3 icons at the bottom of the page (facebook, rainbow, charity logo) and on mouseover the whole site expands downwards (it's not supposed to do that). I've googled for reasons why it would do this but have found none. [URL]...
I have a series of images with an animation bound to mouseover and mouseleave events, and I'm trying to get my head around adding a click event that would prevent the mouseleave animation from occurring only for the image that was clicked, preserving everything else as is (until another image is clicked). I've discovered .stop() and I think I'm getting close, but some part of the logic is still escaping me.
I've got 2 pages: a current events page and a past events page the current events page loads fine as there is only about 10 events the past events page takes about 30 seconds to load and will crash if u click your mouse in the loading time.
The pages are near identical the only difference is the query that selects the events (> versus <)
The page loads immediately without:
But when i put it back in the above happens. I'm using jQuery.roundedcorners.
The click event will fire if you click the <a>, OR if you tab to it with your keyboard and hit Enter. My question is: is there a way to make elements other than <a> tags accessible in this way? I recently discovered if you define a tabindex on your div, such as <div tabindex="0">test</div>, you can tab to that div, but click events don't seem to fire if you use your keyboard. Are <a> tags the only tags that can work in this way?
This works wonderfully in Firefox, but when it runs for the first time in IE it only creates the field, but won't create any attributes for the events. When debugging the events are null. How can I get this to work in IE. Code:
