JQuery :: Drop Down Menu Becomes Hidden Of Fading Images?
Jun 15, 2009
For some reason the dropdown list in my menu becomes hidden underneath the jquery fading images. If i dont fade the image it displays fine. You can check out the issue here[URL].. When you rollover Javascript, the 2 items beneath it become blocked by the images which are fading in the right panel.

The purpose of the code is to slideToggle open one of two hidden sub-nav bars when either of two different menu items are clicked upon - instead of a drop down menu. What doesn't work is the hiding of the div that is not required, if it is already open. Viewing in firebug shows that the appropriate classes are being applied - I suspect the reason is that slideToggle has been somehow set and cannot be unset via another object - but perhaps that is not it at all?
$(document).ready(function() {
//add .toggle function to appropriate li element
$('#hozmenu li:nth-child(4)').toggle(function () {
//set 4th menu links colour to be green whilst div is shown
$('#hozmenu li:nth-child(4) a').css('color', '#95d890');
$('#toggle_nav_services').removeClass('toggle_show');

I have a slideshow of quotes based on the "Ultimate Fade-in slideshow (v2.1)" at Dynamic Drive:This is right under my navigation bar, and the drop-down menu items are hidden behind the javascript slideshow.Some background: The reason I did it this way because I first started out with a Flash banner with quotes fading in and out, and I ran into the problem with the drop-down menu items hiding behind the Flash... of course I Googled that and found the solution.But in the meantime I played with the javascript slideshow and it worked better for me because it was easier to add new quotes just within the html, without having to go back and edit the Flash item.Anyway, so is there a solution to the drop-downs being hidden behind the .js slideshow? Or should I go back to the Flash? Or is there some other sort of solution or script that would fit my needs better?

I am looking for some recommendations for JS/HTML code that will
allow me to generate drop down menus, sort of like the ones here
Code:
where you can see the drop down menus if you roll over "Flights",
"Hotels" and so on. The only thing I want to do differently with this
is that I want to put a repeating background image behind the entire
menu that drops down, and not necessarily just each item. So, in the
above example, if you rolled over Flights, I'd like a background
graphic to span all the menu items -- "Search Flights", "Top Deals",
"Web Fares", "Low Fare Alert", and "Last Minute Packages."

When I am trying to fade images using either .fadeto or .fadeIn/Out, I get dead pixels. This happens on both IE7 and IE8. I tried looking around for a solution, but nothing works. Here is a link to an example: click here (Don't forget to use IE.

I followed a tutorial in .net magazine (a UK web design mag) on how to fade images using jQuery. I have followed it and I can now fade images for my menu, problem is, I am not sure how to append the code to all my to fade images for non list items. For example, I have a call to action button (just a telephone number with a graphic, I have used css sprites to add a hover to the graphic, but would now like to fade it using jquery. Still not managed to get this working, here is what I for my menu, which fades the images perfectly.
html:
Code:
<div id="navigation_primary">
<ul>
<li class="home hover"><a href="home">Home</a></li>
<li class="services hover"><a href="services">Services</a></li>
<li class="work hover"><a href="work">Work</a></li>
<!--<li class="blog hover"><a href="blog">Blog</a></li>-->
<li class="contact hover"><a href="contact">Contact</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
Here is my jQuery:
Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
navigationPrimary();
});
function navigationPrimary() {
$('#navigation_primary li').removeClass('hover');
$('#navigation_primary li a')
.css({ opacity: 1.0 })
.mouseover(function() {
$(this).stop().animate(
{ opacity: 0.0 }
, 300);
}) .....

I've prepared the following page: [url]
But I would prefer the background images to fade in and out rather than change abruptly. I've spent hours searching for appropriate code, but have met a dead end so far.
Incidentally, I presume that the delay before the first background image appears is because of all the images pre-loading. Can anyone suggest a way to immediately display the first image?

Alrighty so here's what I have. Live example: [URL] It's a image slideshow that dynamically gets all the images (via php) in the current directory and puts them into the slideshow array. The array then randomly displays the images in the slideshow (via javascript). There are 5 images in the folder rotateimage which also has the php script getimages.php in it. Currently only the first image fades in however I want all the images to fade in as the first one does.

I'm designing a page to fade multiple images (three) in and out over a set period of time (one minute, say). The code I have works as follows:
I define an array and fill it with the div objects I want to fade in and out. I have some simple tags (2 for opaque, 1 for fading in, -1 for fading out, etc.) that I set to show the state of the object.
First I check if the object is opaque, and if so set it to fade along with a time;
Or if it's transparent I give it a 1 in 10 chance of fading in during this iteration. If it's currently fading in or out I check to make sure it's on track and change the opacity of the div accordingly.
Originally, I had the function call back to itself using setTimeout after the loop had gone through all the divs and changed their opacities appropriately. This caused an out of memory error (though, strangely, if I had any alerts in the function it didn't give me the error).
So the version below has the code in a while loop to let it run for 20 seconds - this gives me the "a script...run slowly, do you want to continue the script?" message.
So I have several questions:
1) First and foremost, why is my function causing out of memory/run slowly errors and what is the best way to fix that?
2) Is there a better way to code this effect (final result will be six lights fading in and out for a minute or so).
3)I'm not an experienced programmer, so any bad practices, ways to streamline, no no's, etc. that you see, please point out.
I've only posted the script here - the page simple consists of three divs (id's grad0, grad1, grad2) and a call to the function copied here.

I am very new to javascript and have only just started looking into it after working quite a bit in html, css and php.I have a working image banner on my webpage that switches between 1 of 2 images every 7 seconds. This all works fine but i now need to make the second image 'pcm2.jpg' a clickable link where as the first image 'pcm.jpg' which starts off the image rotation in the html page has no link. I have tried using 'document. rollbanner.href =' inside the function but that hasn't helped. Is that because the first image in the html page has no href value to begin with? If so how do i get around this as i dont want the first image to have a link, only the second one.

Where's gone wrong that whenever an image fades out into 0, it reappears before another image comes out? I've wanted to make the image disappear shortly before a new image is loaded. I've worked on this and played around with the scripts, yet no finding...

, I'd like to think this is fairly simple but unfortunately my knowldege of jquery is limited to using prebuilt scripts and changing a few variables to get what i need. I created a drop down menu with a slide down/up animation for submenus, which worked out just as I wanted. I ran into troubles though when trying to add a nested menu to the drop down, but with a slide animation going from left to right. I'm sure my explanation isn't very clear, so please take a look [URL] The nested submenu I am speaking of should only open when hovering occurs on the 'Item 01' link, but as you can see it also opens when hovering over the buyers link. Secondly, my attempt to slide from left to right on this ul is not working, it seems to be sliding down even though this was not defined in the code.

I currently have a Drop-Down menu, which has headers you click on to show the links. This menu only allows one drop to be expanded at a time, and can be viewed here [url].
I would like the headers to be able to have 'sub-headers' inside, which also drop-down,to reveal the links. I want them to have a different header colour, and to have the same rule where only one can be open at a time. while keeping the rule with the main headers.

I actually want to make a horizontal drop down menu with a sub menu.As far as I have researched, I think that it can be done by JavaScript. I have searched for some java scripts but they are very long and complex.
That made me wonder that for a funcitonality like a Drop down is so complex?
So here is my question : Is there any JavaScript that can be applied for drop down menu exclusively? Which just presents logic of drop down solely?

I'm building a drop down menu like [URL] or [URL] or [URL] the effect I'm trying to achieve is to have the top menu item showing a background image via css and create a stylized design with the sub-menu. Using CSS when I hover over the sub menu the background image of the top item disappears. So I'd like some guidance with javascript on how to keep the back-image while hovering on the sub menu.

I have one wide jpeg which i am using xhtml map/coords on as navigation buttons, however i wish to have a dropdown menu for one of the links. Is it possible to have a dropdown of flat images with no additional text and use something like coords on it?
I have no idea where to start, i'm not even sure if its possible as ive seen no 100% relevant dropdown jquery tutorials, all seem to use one background image and then use standard text as the links.

If you double click on a empty form box a drop down menu will appear .
But if the form box has text content - then double clicking on the form
box has no effect and a drop down menu doesnt appear .
Or at least it doesnt in IE v7 .
A google search only really brought up the usual beginner type of form
tutorials .
onDblClick=whatever()
I assume i'm looking for a line like the above that i can add to the
<inputtag - or some other suitable piece of javascript to do the job.

I'm currently redesigning my site, and I have a small quandary.[URL].. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same size monitor as me, therefore sometimes the drop-down menus get cut off. Is there a way with this script for it to auto-detect if it's going past the bottom edge, and when this happens it'll go upwards instead?
