JQuery :: Calling A Function Within The Ready Function From Another File?

Jun 18, 2010

I have 2 javascript files: 1 containing generic functions for my site used sitewide and another for a particular web page containing just the javascript for that page. The page is also calling the jQuery javascript file.

What I want to do is have a javascript function in my main javascript file which uses features of jQuery such as show, hide etc. and then I want to call this javascript function from the other page specific javascript file.

[Code]...

This does not work and so was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as to how to achieve this or something similar.

JQuery :: Calling Function From .js File

Jul 22, 2010

I have a jquery plugin for an image gallery, and i'm trying to tweak it to be able to change the shown image via a drop down menu.

In the .js file I have this working function:

My issue is, how do I call this from within my html file?

I've moved the function into my html header and called it succesfully.. but only the alert occurs... The problem seems to be that once called it doesnt know what gallery.gotoIndex(1, false, true); means and goes nowhere...

So I come back to the issue of how do I call this when it sits within the jquery plugin.js?

Also I want to be able to pass the drop down menu selection value to the function... would this work?

Jquery :: From One File To Another - Calling Make Fancy Function

Oct 8, 2010

I have two javascript files that execute some code. One is a default file loaded on all pages that executes some jquery for some bells and whistles for basic interactivity :

default_jquery.js
Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
function make_fancy(){
//make tables look nice
//make hover look nice
//etc
//etc
}
make_fancy();
});

It works great. However, one of my pages updates a database via ajax and then rewrites and redisplays the updated table on a successful ajax return. For example, if someone adds something to their shopping cart, ajax queries the database, updates an entry, and then rebuilds the shopping cart to reflect the new item or quantity. The problem I was having was that after the rewrite of the table, I was losing the formatting that the above jquery file was implementing. So I just added the same jquery statements above to the success indicator of the ajax.

My ajax looks something like this:
buy_item.js
Code:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../buy_item.php",
data: "item="+item+"&quantity="+quantity,
success: function(resp){
//redraw table .....

This works fine, and reapplies the styles after the table has been redrawn. However, I don't like to have the same jquery statements in this file as I do in the standard jquery file above. So I just want to use a function. So on this buy_item.js page, I'm trying to call the make_fancy() function in the default_jquery.js file, but it doesn't work. I'm told that the make_fancy() function is not defined. I've tried including the default_jquery.js file which contains the make_fancy function before the buy_item.js file that calls it, but that doesn't work for some reason.

What I want is this for the buy_item.js page:
Code:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "../buy_item.php",
data: "item="+item+"&quantity="+quantity,
success: function(resp){
//redraw table
make_fancy();
},
error: function(e){
alert('You suck at this');
}});
}//function

Calling Function From HTML File?

Jan 18, 2010

Currently just trying to call functions from a .js file from my .html file. Here is the code, can't figure out why it doesn't work? It works if I put the medeltal(); into the .js file but I wanna call them from the html. Note that if I put the medeltal (20, 10, 30, 40); into the JS file at top it works just fine, but i can't seem to get it to work from the html file.

JS code:
function medeltal(var1, var2, var3, var4){
result = (var1 + var2 + var3 + var4) / 4;
alert(result);
}

.xhtml code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-W3CDTD XHTML 1.0 StrictEN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[uRL]" xml:lang="en">
<head>
<title>Uppgift 2</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html charset=iso-8859-1" />

Ajax :: Calling A PHP Function?

Aug 27, 2008

I have a page that has php code at the top. Ajax before the body tag and a form. I need to be able to call a php function (the one at the top of my page) that adds info from the form into the DB. Normally I'd do this in the traditional sense of "if($_REQUEST('submit')" but I have a jquery progress bar that works with ajax to request progress data from the server. The following code is the code that retrieves the data from the server:

if (@$_GET['id']) {
echo json_encode(uploadprogress_get_info($_GET['id']));
exit();
}

This as you can see executes repeatedly till the upload is finished. The problem is I can't incorporate my database insertion code with this because the progress bar stops working altogether.

JQuery :: Calling A Function ... $('submit").click(ClickGeocode) Versus Simply Calling ClickGeocode(credentials)

Jul 17, 2011

I have a form button with id="submit". When pressed, ClickGeocode(credentials) is called. This works fine and dandy with: $('submit").click(ClickGeocode) Despite there being no indication that the function takes an argument 'credentials'. So when I want to call the function at some point in my code, I should be able to do something like ClickGeocode(credentials) ... no? However, my issue is that credentials isn't once defined in my code - it is part of Bing Maps function... like so:

function ClickGeocode(credentials)
{
map.getCredentials(MakeGeocodeRequest);
}

So why does it work using .click(), and how can I call the function without user interaction (simply somewhere in my code) even if 'credentials' is not defined?

Ajax :: Execute A Function On Trigger From A Php File?

Nov 7, 2011

I have a website which has a mysql db which records how many visitors i have.

I want a message box to pop up everytime a visitor logs on.

Whenever someone logs on, a php file constantly is run (via javascript) checks to see if the visitor counter has increased.

if it does it plays a "ping" sound. this works fine, but I think as the php file is separate from my index.php the message never appears.

is there a way to check in javascript that when a responsetext (ajax) changes from the current value being polled that it executes a function? (ie, the notify box)

Ajax :: Modification - Function To Load Text File Information From The Server

Sep 24, 2011

I have been successfully using the following "myAjax" function to load text file information from the server.

ajax.js:

After I load the text file, I store the text "records" into an array by doing something like this:

Where the '}' character is my record delimiter. It could just as easily be ' ' or ' ' or the like.

Again, I am not having any problems doing it this way as it suits my current needs.

Now the question(s)

1. Does the call to read the text data from the external file always read in the entire contents or can I read one line or delimited record at a time and store it to the array directly without the text storage?

2. If the text is always read completely (my suspicion), can I safely delete the "TextInformation" after I convert to the array format? Is there any memory penalty for doing it this way as the text information can be somewhat lengthly and I don't like the idea of having doubled memory usage when I only need the information in array format anyway?

This is the idea I am considering, but I don't know if there are drawback to this method of if there is a better way to accomplish the task.

JQuery :: Calling Legacy Web Service With Ajax Call

Jan 12, 2012

Have successfully created a node.js web service that I can access using jQuery ajaxcalls. My service returns json and the ajax parser works great.

My question is whether I can access an existing Microsoft asmx web service that is simply returning XML or non-json data?

Is there a way to tell the ajax call not to parse the returned data stream? I need to be able to authenticate against the legacy web service, so I don't have to rewrite all the code. I have tried changing the content type and data type, but to no avail.

Sample Code:

This code fails every time and I have tried a POST and changing the content/data types.

JQuery :: Appending AJAX Response Data To Calling Element?

Jun 3, 2009

I have a list where each list item has a click event attached to it. Upon clicking a list item, the click calls a PHP script and passes the list's title attribute as a parameter to the script. How can I take the data returned (some HTML) from the AJAX call and append it to the list item which was clicked? I know that the data variable contains the correct HTML coming back from the script and thought that $ (this).append(data) would work but it doesn't. I was thinking of calling another function from within the AJAX return function call, but don't know how to reference the list item which was originally clicked.

$('li').click(function(){
$.get('script.php',{folder:$(this).attr('title')},function(data){
?
});
