Ajax :: Execute A Function On Trigger From A Php File?

Nov 7, 2011

I have a website which has a mysql db which records how many visitors i have.

I want a message box to pop up everytime a visitor logs on.

Whenever someone logs on, a php file constantly is run (via javascript) checks to see if the visitor counter has increased.

if it does it plays a "ping" sound. this works fine, but I think as the php file is separate from my index.php the message never appears.

is there a way to check in javascript that when a responsetext (ajax) changes from the current value being polled that it executes a function? (ie, the notify box)

Execute A Function In An External Js File?

Sep 15, 2010

I'm trying to execute a function in an external js file. I have the file linked

Code:

script type="text/javascript" scr="./JScript/JSFile.js" language="javascript"></script>

In my form the action points to the JSfile

Code:

action="JSFile.js"

My submission button has a link to the JS function

Code:

<a hef="javascript: function()"><input type="submit"></a>

When I click the submit button, it shows the JSFile instead of executing the function.

Onclick Event To Call A Function In An External File And Execute It?

Jul 6, 2011

I have a few buttons on a page I'm developing and I want the onclick event to call a javascript function in an external file and execute it. I would like to be able to pass a parameter to that function and then either have the function take the user to a new URL or make changes to the webpage content.

Initially (just to test) I had inline javascript that caused an alert to popup. That worked fine. Next I took the inline code and put it in a function in an external javascript file that was referenced in the HTML:

Ajax :: Modification - Function To Load Text File Information From The Server

Sep 24, 2011

I have been successfully using the following "myAjax" function to load text file information from the server.

ajax.js:

After I load the text file, I store the text "records" into an array by doing something like this:

Where the '}' character is my record delimiter. It could just as easily be ' ' or ' ' or the like.

Again, I am not having any problems doing it this way as it suits my current needs.

Now the question(s)

1. Does the call to read the text data from the external file always read in the entire contents or can I read one line or delimited record at a time and store it to the array directly without the text storage?

2. If the text is always read completely (my suspicion), can I safely delete the "TextInformation" after I convert to the array format? Is there any memory penalty for doing it this way as the text information can be somewhat lengthly and I don't like the idea of having doubled memory usage when I only need the information in array format anyway?

This is the idea I am considering, but I don't know if there are drawback to this method of if there is a better way to accomplish the task.

ajax.js:

Write Forms Values To External File, Then Execute A Program?

Sep 23, 2006

I'm trying to develop fast, simple, html-based front ends
for some Windows application programs. My idea:

1. Use html forms to let users supply run parameters (title,
run options, etc.)

2. When the user presses a submit button:

a. The selected options for all the form fields are
written to an external file (e.g., c:projectinput.txt)

b. The application program, say, prog.exe, is executed.
This program then reads the run parameters from the file
input.txt and proceeds. Code:

JQuery :: Can't Iterate Through SPANs And Execute Ajax GET

Jul 16, 2009

As soon as the page loads, I would like to iterate through several span tags on the page and update their innerHTML to be the response from the AJAX get call. The line I have commented out, alert("Data Loaded: " + data);, works perfectly, but creates a bunch of alert boxes (which I don't want). And if I move the line "this.innerHTML =data;" out of the Ajax call, it works fine also. So I know all the syntax is correct. But when I put it together as outlined below, it just won't work. The Ajax is working, I also see the GET calls working fine in the Firebug console. It just won't update the innerHTML of the SPAN tags.

Any Way To Trigger File Upload From Separate Button?

Oct 21, 2009

I'm guessing Javascript security shuts me down here, but just thought I'd post this on the off chance a guru here might know.I'm using ASP.NET AJAX's new AsyncFileUpload control. Functionality-wise it's awesome. Appearance-wise my product manager hates it. I'd like to hide it, and trigger its functionality from a button whose appearance I can fully customize.I tried doing this via calling its click() method, which opens the file selection dialog fine. However, once a file is selected, causing the form to be submitted, the infamous "htmlfile: Access is denied" error rears its head.

Set A Function To Execute When A Select Box Changes?

Aug 30, 2010

I'm not even sure if I'm using the correct terminology when I say "binding", but here's what I'm looking to do.

I want to set a function to execute when a select box changes. I know I can do it like this:

Code:
<select id="select-box" onchange="functionCall();">

I really like how jQuery makes it easy with something like this:

Code:
$('#select-box').change(function(){
...
});

What's the best way to do this with pure javascript? Basically I don't want to add the function call to my markup.

I need to execute a function after a link to a section within the same

the onclick event handler the JS function is executed before the

I'm not having any luck searching due to not knowing what keywords to
