JQuery :: Backup For Sprite And Accessibility?
Jun 16, 2011
I'm using jQuery with a sprite--moving the background image 100px when the user mouses over to display the "over" state. Seems terribly simple, but for some reason I can't get it working. Note that it works fine when implemented with a traditional a:hover {background-position: 0 -100px} in CSS.
jQuery:
$("#login-sprite").mouseover(function() {
$(this).addClass("login-sprite-overstate");
});
[code]....

I have the following layout for my page in ASP.NET:
<div id="content">
<div id="leftnavcover" class="leftnavcover"></div>
<asp:PlaceHolder ID="ph_leftnav" runat="server">
<div class="leftnav" id="leftnav">
<asp:Repeater runat="server" ID="rptr_LeftNav">
<HeaderTemplate> .....
Which renders the following HTML:
<div id="content">
<div id="leftnavcover" class="leftnavcover"/>
<div id="leftnav" class="leftnav" style="left: 0px;">
<ul><li>
<a id="ctl00_rptr_LeftNav_ctl01_hyp_LeftNav" class="LeftNavLink" href="services-subsection-1">
Services Subsection 1</a>
<div class="leftnavmenu" style="display: block;"> .....
And I have the following JQuery script:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("a.LeftNavLink").mouseover(function() {
$(this).next("div.leftnavmenu").slideDown(500).siblings("div.leftnavmenu").slideUp("slow");
});
});
The problem is that when I bring my mouse on top of one of the .LeftNavLink's, it slides down the corresponding .leftnavmenu, but it doesn't slide the sibling divs back up when you put your mouse on top of another .LeftNavLink, which is what it is supposed to do. Anyways, I got this code from: [URL]

I'm using bassistance.de's form validation, as shown here: [URL] In the very possible event that someone is browsing without JavaScript enabled, I've put together a PHP form validation that should direct the user to an error page. The JavaScript works when I do not have the validation part in the PHP. When I do, it seems the JavaScript is completely ignored. Here's my HTML:

I am trying to develop a mouseover effect on an image sprite. Half of the image is a colour version and the bottom half is a grayscale version. I want to start with the grayscale version and fade into the colour version.I would normally use :hover on the css element but as the image is defined in the DOM and not a background image im slightly confused.[URL]

I am trying to do something with a sprite image, which is changing the height of it when an action button is clicked. The sprite image is 602x5485px. For clarity here's the link [url] and here's the image [url] and when the "Run sequence" button is clicked the height of the background image is supposed to change (each image is 602x399) so I need to add another 399px to move to the next one. The sequence will run till the last picture and then come back so that it gives a kind of movie animation (so in brief adding 399px till it reaches the last pic and then removing 399px till it gets to the first one).
Here's the html page without the script:
HTML Code:
And here's the css just for the sprite image:
Code:
Ok let's get to the script now (which won't be an external file but within the html page, I separated it temporarily for the sake of clarity). What the script should do, I think, is to get the background image which is in the css, and change the css background position adding - as said - 399px. When it gets to the end, remove 399px till it gets to the first image.
So in practice here are my last (believe me of many!) attempt:
Code:
I am not sure whether this is correct but I am not quite sure how to continue. The thing is, I want to change the height of the background image as said and the above should change at least one image but it doesnt work. If somebody has the patience to talk me through that (I am a beginner so I would like to attempt to build the code myself.

I began working on a "best" solution for screen res widths of 1024+ for centralised fixed width pages with potentialy large (or any size) left and right margin graphics and have come up with something I'm very happy with: an outside wrapper set to 100% + overflow hidden (removes the horizontal scrollbar on all screen res)
a wrapper inside that set to 1000px with margin auto (allows the central page to be in the middle of, or to fill the page of all screen res - brilliant because originally one main objective was for a left margin not to push the page to the right and out of view on a lower res screen) an inside wrapper inside the centralised one above set to for example, width 1800px and left 400px, allows both margins to be viewable for all screen res larger than the central page (1000px+)ok, so the final hurdle in what for me would be a perfect solution is for any screen res lower than 1000px - currently the horizontal scroll bar is removed - therefore the central page has its right potentialy chopped off.... and so with some research, I've put together the following JavaScript:
<SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
if (screen.width<1000)
{document.getElementById('outsidewrapper').style.cssText='overflow: visible;';}
</SCRIPT>
This is my best effort at JavaScript - I am slowly and steadily learning more. I feel its on the right track, to return the overflow on the outer wrapper would bring the horizontal scroll bar back, but on IE (lower than 1000 res screens) this causes an error and does not work on any browser.how to get this code to work, it'd make for me today a good day, if any of this is difficult to understand without seeing, the site is: http:[url]....

I am trying to write a script to get my sprite to move to the next row once it reaches the last frame on it's current row.
Here's my attempt so far; in the code below I want bird2 when it reaches frame 3 and spState(1) - this means first row - to switch to spState (2) second row.
if ($('#bird2'['current_frame']) == 3 && $('#bird2').spState(1)) {
$('#bird2').spState(2);
} else {
$('#bird2').spState(1);
[Code]....
this is from [URL] you will notice on this site that if you drag the slider to the left the bird sprites change direction, in fact they play the second row of frames.
The reason I want my bird sprite to go automatically to the next row is because I am using video turned into individual frames and a png strip, and I am limited by the max width of png (8192px). see [URL] scroll down to see the bird on the rooftop. Each frame in that bird sprite is 80px wide and there are 93 frames. So I would like to include multiple rows to allow me to increase the number of frames. Up to 15 rows will be needed and after the last row it should go back to the first row. Perhaps a switch statement would be better than what I currently have.
I am new to JavaScript and have been trying to pick up clues from [URL] I am very happy to learn and I hope to be prompted and pushed in the right direction.

I have a script that runs a sprite animation on the canvas, adapted from here: [URL] After wondering why it wouldn't work on Safari or older versions of Firefox, I saw this: [URL] and implemented the suggested shim. However, I'm still getting some errors that I can't explain for the life of me. To make this easy for everyone, I threw it in a jsfiddle: [URL]

All my font-sizes are set as relative sizes in CSS (large, medium, small,
x-small, etc). Let's say something is set in CSS to be xx-large, but a
visually impaired user wants it displayed even bigger. Can a script
determine an element's absolute size, *as it is being rendered by the
browser*, and then increment the element's font-size in absolute terms?

I've been attempting to use 1.4.1 but I'm finding that $.get() and .getJSON() callbacks fail. The XHR requests succeed. I can examine the full request in both Chrome and Firebug. However, the callback functions *don't* execute. To test, I tried the same url with both 1.4.1, 1.3.2, and via a raw XMLHttpRequest(). The last 2 requests succeed, 1.4.1 fails. //v1.3.2 WORKS, fails in v1.4.1 $.get('/topic/api/template/list', function(data){

Sorry but I can't get the very first tutorial to work. I put the custom.js in a test_jr directory in htdocs. I also put the starterkit.html file in the same directory. I copied the contents of jquery-1.4.4.min.js into a jquery.js file also in the same directory. Then I did the custom.js page shown here:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("a").click(function() {
[Code]...
I tried clicking on the [URL] and I get the starterkit.html page. If I click on the "some link" it doesn't do anything. What am I missing? There are syntax errors in my editor starting on the line with the asterisks* Why is there an error there? It looks like it closes the click function?

Unfortunately when it matches, it is pasting js code. When tab is changed and I'm returning to the same page tab content is pasted second time in this tab. When I'm doing that again it's pasted third time... It's only happening on tabs on which this toolbar found telephone number.

I want to use the great jquery.validate plugin. I have just one question. There are fields which i have to check via ajax calls. I just want to check them if they were changed. I thought about one option that i bind the valid method to the onchange event. I would prefer to call the validations on submit.

I made a request to db via jQuery.post(). Generally it works as it should, but if I use german special characters, they are treated wrongly. For closer examinations, I set up a new file without db-access, only displaying regular and special chars. I checked the characters after reading the value of text-input by alerting it. At this moment, it is correct! The issue happens when jQuery gives the variables to POST (its the same with GET). The target-file can read only wrong characters from POST. I crosschecked it by submitting data by a standard form. Now, the POST is read correctly. Special chars, which are echoed explicitly (not questioned by POST) are given back correcty
- I defined charset it in html header and tried other charsets - always the same.
- Adding the accept-tag to inputbox didn't help.
- Redefining charset in target-file didn't help.
- Adding the charset-tag to the jQuery including script didn't help.
So, I think, the code is correct but there is an issue with the charset. And it is definitley at this moment, when transfering the variable to the POST.
