JQuery :: Appending Page Break To Select Element
Mar 27, 2010
I would like to dynamically insert a <br /> after each </select> (like createElement). I am told that this is simple with jquery but only have limited experience in this area.
Code:
<html><head></head>
<body><form><select>
<option>1</option>
<option>2</option>
</select>
<--- dynamically insert <br /> here
<select><option>3</option>
<option>4</option>
</select>
<--- dynamically insert <br /> here
</form><body></html>

When the page loads there will already be a drop-down on the page, here's an example of the drop down.
<select id="dropdown">
<option value="2121S">Option text</option>
<option value="2122S">Option text</option>
<option value="2123S">Option text</option>
<option value="2121A">Option text</option>
<option value="2122A">Option text</option>
<option value="2121K">Option text</option>
</select>
On page load it will evaluate this drop-down and repopulate it determined on their values. If there is an S in any of the values the drop-down will generate an option for 'S' like so.. <option value="s">S Option Text</option> And for the first code example in this post - the Javascript would be able to repopulate the drop-down with the following:

I'm trying to allow a user to add several data items. I'm using append to add a new row where they can enter data. However, the element count only seems to get to one (the newest added) and does not create an array of elements like i was hoping.
[Code]...
In the above, i can successfully add new rows. But the item "the-data" will always alert that it has a length of 1, no matter how many rows are added. how I can add several of an element with the same name and have it recognized in the DOM?

I have a list where each list item has a click event attached to it. Upon clicking a list item, the click calls a PHP script and passes the list's title attribute as a parameter to the script. How can I take the data returned (some HTML) from the AJAX call and append it to the list item which was clicked? I know that the data variable contains the correct HTML coming back from the script and thought that $ (this).append(data) would work but it doesn't. I was thinking of calling another function from within the AJAX return function call, but don't know how to reference the list item which was originally clicked.
$('li').click(function(){
$.get('script.php',{folder:$(this).attr('title')},function(data){
?
});
});

I'm using <DIV> tags to display some content with absolute positioning.
The content sometimes goes more than 1 page. So i would like to
have page break after 1 set of content is printed on a page. Its like this
<DIV id=A style="position:absolute; top:0px; left:0px; width:100px;
height:100px">
Item One
</DIV
--do the page break
<DIV id=A style="position:absolute; top:0px; left:0px; width:100px;
height:100px">
Item Two
</DIV
This should ensure that always the content is printed on the same position
but in new page. The problem is how to do the page-break.

I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.
If I had a table like this...

I have a menu that I have constructed through HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Javascript handles the mouseover and mouseout events to set the background of the menu item/table element with an image. It works great. What my issue is right now is that when the user loads the Home page, I want that to have the background of the item already set. I had a function to do this with a switch clause in a separate javascript file. This function was called immediately (left it outside of any functions so it would execute first). But I'm getting an error because the actual element (a table) to set the background doesn't exist yet.

Can I target the element and base an onChange outside of directly calling it in the element tag?
Due to the nature of my script, the best I can do is wrap a tag around the element.
example of what I am trying to do
Code:
<script>
document.form.field1.onchange = function();
<script>
And if this might work, can I call it in the head or must it come after the element.

I have a javascript tool in which I can supply a listener function, which has the parameter 'div', which is a dom element. Now I would like to apply $('a.enlargement').fancyzoom({Speed:0,showoverlay:true}); to that div, but I only have the reference. I know about the 'find' function, but that can only be run on a selection object. So how can I do this?

I have a standard menu structured with an unordered list. Some of the items in the menu have sub items, but are not themselves links. Here's an example:
<ul id="mainMenu">
<li><a href="">home</a></li>
<li><a>services</a>
<ul>
[Code].....
How do I select a tag that does (or does not) have a particular attribute? In my case, I want to be able to select all <a> tags in #mainMenu that do not have the href attribute.

I know you can use :even or :odd to get the even or odd indexes from a set, or :lt/:gt to filter down the matched set before/beyond the specified index. But what if I want to select every 5th element? And I know it's not nth-child, because that selects everything that is the nth-child of it's parent and not if it is one of the nth elements in the matched set. Is the only way to use .each(function (index) {...}); and then check if the index makes that element one of the nth items?

<div id="parent"><div>lorem ipsum</div></div>
and I need to register a click on the parent div. If I use
$("#parent")click(function(){

the code starts also if I click on the child div. So how can I start my function only if there was a click on the parent div outsite the child div?

I'm trying to select an image inside $(this) but can't figure out how to do it!
I can select it directly by using: $('#nav a img').fadeIn(500);
but that targets every element that fits into that criteria, not just the one I want to select.
how I can select only the image inside the $(this) variable?
