JQuery :: 1.4.2 Events Handling And IE6?

Aug 2, 2010

Geeting a JS error from IE 6 only in this method: handle: function( event ) { var all, handlers, namespaces, namespace, events;

[Code]...

On the last line of the code snippet above. It appears to me that IE6 doesn't like the fact that the events object is undefined. To trigger this error we are doing a simple blur binding to an input box. ex:

$(field).bind('blur', function(){onfocusout(this);}); It appears IE 6 stops executing JS after the error (imagine that). Is this an issue in jQuery core or BTW I know MS has dropped IE 6 support but we still have customers.

Opera Bug - Not Handling Key Events Correctly

Oct 12, 2005

I have found what seems to be a bug. When you have a keydown, keypress and keyup event handler on a text box in Opera, it won't call the keyup handler when you hit the down arrow key. Every other key, including up arrow, seems to work fine.

To make sure it wasn't just me, I tried this in Opera with one of Mike's demos:

http://cross-browser.com/x/examples/key_events.php

If you use the arrow keys while any object other than a textbox has focus, keydown, keypress and keyup show 40 and 38 for down and up arrow, respectively. However, if you focus on one of the textboxes, 40 only shows up for keydown and keypress, not keyup. 38, however, continues to show up for all events.

Handling External Object Events

Jun 17, 2005

I have a script for a radio player that I'm working on using Windows Media Player. Before I was using the safe WMP 6.4 object model but because of feature requests I've had to include support for more recent WMPs.

I have a javascript class that wraps the versions and depending on which version is being used it calls different methods. I was wondering if there was a way to assign the events of WMP to functions in javascript, but without using <script for=WMP event=blah> type tags. Code:

Process Of Handling Multiple Mouse Events

Jan 8, 2010

If you've caught a mouse event (say, onmousemove) and you're currently in the process of handling that event, is it possible for that, or another, mouse event handler to get hit again, at the same time that you're handling the previous event? Or is it guaranteed that no additional events will actually call any of your event handlers until your code returns from handling the prior event? That is, is it strictly sequential processing, or can they occur simultaneously?

JQuery :: Events Defined In $.each (creating List Elements With Events) Not Executing?

Jul 21, 2010

I am trying to "ajaxify" my site. Now I have one problem:

$("#posts").children().remove();
$("#tag-sidebar").children().remove();
$.each(data.Tags_Sidebar, function (indexInArray, valueOfElement) {
var insert = $("<li>");

[Code]......

Now when I click one of those links (href1, href2, href3) generated, the click event won't execute! What's the problem? Also, is it right that I have to transfer the valueOfElement over, like I did? What does stopEventPropagation do? Prevent the href from being navigated to? That's what I am trying to do.

The data object is JSON fed from here:[URL]

The HTML is here: [URL]

JQuery :: Binding Events With Other Events?

Feb 4, 2011

I have a series of images with an animation bound to mouseover and mouseleave events, and I'm trying to get my head around adding a click event that would prevent the mouseleave animation from occurring only for the image that was clicked, preserving everything else as is (until another image is clicked). I've discovered .stop() and I think I'm getting close, but some part of the logic is still escaping me.

JQuery :: Handling Huge Sets Of Elements?

Jan 23, 2011

I developed a plugin which loads some content via AJAX. Every time the content is loaded I need to bind to certain elements ( let's say the elements with 'bar' as classname ) the mouseover and mouseout elements. I achieved it by using the ' live() ' instruction.Now my problem comes when I need to scan every element which has 'bar' as classname and do some calulcations on it (they are over 600). I tried to do like this

$container.find('.bar').live('customevent', function()
{
// do some stuff
});

then, once the contents is loaded

...
$container.find('.bar').trigger('customevent');

but this will cause the browser to carsh ( I think because jQuery is scanning over than 600 elements)

I also want the submit button to be 'greyed out' until both of them have been submitted which looks like this.

JQuery :: Handling Variables Success With $.ajax?

Dec 24, 2010

This is the exemplar I've been using for my $.ajax requests to my php script.

$.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: 'getDetails.php', data: { id: 142 }, success: function(data) {
// grabbed some data! };
});

I'm working with a few more variables than this, I'm working with 3 variables. What I'm wondering is should I use json_encode() on the php side. I will be using php validations, so I may return error messages in an array. How do I check whether I have error messages or true value.

I'd like to send in an associative array so I can have email = "error"; amongst a few others. So if email is the only one with error I will .append a message to the correct div id.

JQuery :: Handling Window.change Event In IE

Jan 8, 2010

i'm trying to do some event delegation, and i can't seem to get the onchange event working in IE. i've tried:

$(document).change(function () { alert('fuck. me. IE sux'); }); $(document.body).change(function () { alert('fuck. me. again'); });

and later i have:

<select id="aSelect"> <option value="0">a first option</option> <option value="1">a second option</option> <option value="2">a third option</option> <option value="3">a fourth option</option> </select>

but this doesn't work in IE. i've also tried to wire these up manually: document.body.onchange = function (e) { alert('foo); }; and document.onchange, but those don't work either. what's the story here (other than the fact that IE is sucking balls)?

JQuery :: IE Click Event Handling In 3 States

Aug 4, 2009

I'm working on a small plugin that extends a checkbox to behave as if it has 3 states. Basically it just adds an anchor above the underlying checkbox, intercepts mouse clicks, and cycles the checkbox between:
disabled + unchecked
enabled + unchecked
enabled + checked

It works fine in FF. But in IE7, for some reason, the click events are always sent to the underlying checkbox instead of the overlaid anchor. The anchor is sized to completely overlay the checkbox (and in fact, I made it's slightly bigger so clicking at the very edges
works). Incidentally, I'm using jQuery 1.2.6 since this is part of a much larger web application and we haven't yet worked out the incompatibilities we're seeing with the latest jQuery version.

Here's the plugin code (the alerts are for debugging in IE)
(function($) {
$.fn.checkbox3s = function(options) {
var opts = $.extend({}, $.fn.defaults, options);
return this.each(function() {
var proxy, cbx = $(this), parent = cbx.parent();
parent.css({position:"relative"});
proxy = $("<a href='#'></a>").css({

JQuery :: Downloading Application/json File Instead Of Handling It?

Jun 1, 2009

Currently I'm developping an application with RoR and jQuery. Is the first time I try to use this wonderful library so I'm still a little naive Right now I'm having a problem that I have no idea how to solve. Documentation, google, etc have been useless for me in this point (probably because I'm not searching the right terms) So I'm creating an invitation system: simply, a form where you put an email address and when you hit submit it makes an ajax call. The server should answer with some data such 'how many invitations the user have left', possible errors and (if in development enviroment) the url for the invitation (debuggin purposes), everything coded in json.

The problem is that sometimes when sending an invitation firefox pops me up with a download dialog suggesting to save an "application/json" file with all the data that the server processed. My jQuery script should be taking care of handling it and it is not. I have told Rails to render the answer in json format: render :json => message.to_json message is a hash with a format similar to {:error => "There was an error, sorry", :invitations_left => current_user.invitations_left} And I have also specified jQuery the type expected in the return of the call:

JQuery :: Exception Raised In Event Handling System On Input Tag Keydown

Dec 14, 2011

When I upgraded to jQuery 1.7.1 (from 1.5.x), I found that an exception was suddenly thrown on every keydown event on an INPUT type="text". I still get the exception when I remove my change and keyup events. Previously I bound to these elements with .live, but I have the same issue with the new .on, so I don't think this problem is even related to my bindings.

The exception is as follows (from the custom WebKit frame where my script runs):

This occurs on line 3255 of jquery-dev-1.7.1.js, which reads:

I did some poking around and found that handleObj.origType is "keydown". There is no jQuery.event.special["keydown"] defined, meaning that the first part of the expression evaluates to undefined (there is no such thing as {}.handle). The second part of the expression, handleObj.handler, evaluates to true. The entire expression therefore evaluates to true, which can't be applied as a function.

JQuery :: Event Handling DOM Elements After Ajax .load() - Cannot Bind Selector To ContextMenu Plugin

Unfortunately since the span elements are coming from the ajax request,I don't think I can bind a normal event handler as per the plugin. [URL] how to use event bubbling in this situation.
