Input Validation - Checking For Spaces?
Mar 7, 2011
I have a javascript function which checks if the user has enteed certain text into an input or if they have entered any text at all before the submit button which submits the text is able to be activated. How can I enhance this so that if the user no text at all and only enters several spaces this will also not be allowed and will return false?

i m using the following validation code to validate email id
if (!/^w+([.-]?w+)*@w+([.-]?w+)*(.w{2,4})+$/.test(document.getElementById("customer_name").value))
{
msg=msg+"Must Enter a valid Login-id/Email
";
document.getElementById("customer_name").focus();
}
now i need that if the email id contains white blank space in front of email id or end of email id then this validation should pass otherwise not.
at present if there is blank space in front and end of email id then the validation doesnt passes and gives alert.
what should i add in it to validate it or how can it automatically remove white spaces before validating.

I made a registration form.I have used php,html as well as javascript in it.In the onclick event of submit button I've provided a call to a function written in javascript.Things are workin fine i.e validations are working properly and insertion of values to the database is also ok.
And the problem dat I have is, I want to check whether username and emailid provided is unique with respect to my site...that is no two users can't have same emailid or username.I'm able to retreive the entire emailid and username out of the database.But I don't know where should I place the code for checking the equality.I think that the code should be placed in the javascript validation function..but the code for retreiving values from db is in php.
I'm totally confused.I'm attaching here the registration page that I made...anyone out there please go through it and help me with a solution.

I'm currently learning many web programming languages and figured this would be a good way to learn more and do things better. I have been working on a contact form for my website. I had originally did the error checking in PHP, but I would like to change it to JaveScript since this is the preferred way. I have it all semi working,It seems like I have some unnecessary variables and such.. I would like to clean it all up as best as possible.

I am wanting all the inputs of the table cells turn red when invalid data (in this case anything other than a number) is entered. Object:
1. To add a className to those inputs
2. With the new className 'invalid" the CSS gives a red background to the input The appending of the className is not showing up in the generated source code and both Firefox and Chrome is not showing any errors in the code. I can't not figure out what is preventing the execution.

the validate plugin at the form at the below URL is validating as true as long as the first required input is valid even though subsequent required fields are invalid. It even gives the invalid class to all fields correctly but the submitHandler function is triggered anyway. I have an alert trigger when the form successfully submits and a little more output for firebug if you want it. [URL]

I have a list of products where they have minimum quantities in a hidden input. Some products have multiple colours, though the same minimum quantity and I'm trying to implement a jQuery check that entries made are at least equal to the minimum.
Blank or '0' entries are fine but if it's below the minimum quantity it should set to the minimum.
HTML:
Is there something obviously wrong with this? It isn't performing the minimum check and I'm really not sure why.

I need to get the values (for validation) of a php style html input array:
<input type="file" name="image[]">
<input type="file" name="image[]">
<input type="file" name="image[]">
<input type="file" name="image[]">
The PHP faq gives an example:
variable = documents.forms[0].elements['var[]'];
http://ca3.php.net/manual/en/faq.ht...select-multiple
But that doesn't actually work, for me.
What would be the proper way to loop through each of the upload inputs
and get the value?

Here is what I'm trying to do. I have a 12-digit
(UPC-A) javascript validation script which works great. All I need now
is a similar script for 8-digit (UPC-E) type script? I don't want to
convert it to a 12-digit UPC-A before validating it as a 12-digit
number. I would prefer to just be able to calc the number, as an
8-digit number, check digit and all, just like I am currently doing
successfully with this 12-digit validation script: Code:

I have just started learning JavaScript, so I do not know much about it at this moment. I need suggestion regarding validation of input values which are actually in an array. My HTML looks like this:
Link# 1: <input name="url[]" size="80" type="text">
Title# 1:<input name="title[]" size="80" type="text">
Link# 2: <input name="url[]" size="80" type="text">
Title# 2:<input name="title[]" size="80" type="text">
Link# 3: <input name="url[]" size="80" type="text">
Title# 3:<input name="title[]" size="80" type="text">
.
.
.
.
.
And so on. (up to 20)
User can add more input fields by adding "Add" button; I'm using JavaScript for that purpose. By default, only a couple of fields is shown. I want to validate these all fields using a loop or a number of loops, such that an alert appears if any field is left blank and also if any value in title[] array matches another value in that array and same for the second array url[] Examples of working would be something like this:
If Link# 1 is left blank: alert("Link# 1 is empty");
or
If Link# 2 is left blank: alert("Link# 2 is empty");
or
If Title# 1 is left blank: alert("Title# 1 is empty");
or
If Title# 2 is left blank: alert("Title# 2 is empty");
or
If Link# 1 == Link# 2: alert("Link# 1 is same as Link#2");
or
If Link# 1 == Link# 3: alert("Link# 1 is same as Link#2");
or
If Title# 1 == Title# 3: alert("Title# 1 is same as Title#3"); etc, etc.

Example for FirstName data input: Characters a-z,A-Z, hyphen, space are permitted. 0-1, !@#$%^&*()- etc are not permitted.
The plugin looks great but I am not able to figure-out how to limit which characters an end-user is allowed to input. Not just which characters are permitted but also which characters are not permitted.

Currently on my form if you your input dosn't pass my validation you will see an error message and red box will also appear around the input box. The issue is that if you will it out the box will not disappear until you hit submit. Obviously that is because I have PHP validate the form, but I would like for the red border to go away as soon as the conditions are met, which is why I thought, JS would be the best solution.
I know how to write a conditional state in JS but I am not sure ho to echo out different classes based on the conditions.
