Highlight Current "page" Without Page Refresh?
Jul 7, 2009
I'm using jQuery.LocalScroll to scroll a large page to the content depending on the link clicked. I have one css styled menu that stays in a consistent position while the rest of the page moves.It works well but as the page isn't 're-loading' for each section I can't think how I can indicate on the menu which section you are in.

I put my website in an iFrame to mask the URL...and everything works great, except that on any given page, when you click the browser reload button it goes back to the original iframe src.
I assume I need JS to get it to refresh the current content(page), but I cannot for the life of me find a simple answer. Does anyone know how to do this off hand? Is it even JS that I need?

My table columns are sorted by the Tablekit library [URL]. The user can click the columns to toggle the sort order either ascendingly or descendingly. I can save the current sort order (preference) in the server. After the page is refreshed, the web page is sorted by the original sort order. How to make the Tablekit library to sort with the current sort order after page refresh? My web page column is:
<th class="sortfirstdesc" id="urgency" onClick="reverseOrder($sortdesc)">ID</th>

I'm trying to create two bookmarklets:
1. Take the current URL of the page and open a new window with a URL based on the current page. Some examples (I use "->" to mean "this URL turns into that URL"):I plan to use these bookmarklets in sequence, first pressing 1 to log into the CMS, then pressing 2 to edit the current page.

If i am on first page in edit mode and change any control's value and without saving information i click on other tab that particular time a popup should appear showing validation message say "you are moving without save and it will loos all changes either click ok to loose the changes and move to other page or click cancel to remain on the current page."I tried using var isDirty = false; var msg = 'This page has unsaved changes.Click OK to abandon the changes and leave the page.Click Cancel to stay on the page so that you can save your changes.';

Based on the lack of responses to the last hole (which I am attributing to one of the following:
a. The hole being too difficult,
b. It being overly time consuming, or
c. People not wanting to do it)
I have decided to take a step back for this hole.
Create a Javascript include function. This function should include a javascript file (when given a URL) into the current page assuming it wasn't already included in the page (either via the include function call or by HTML). If the file is already included the function should just return.
This function should either take a file name/ path to file or a full URL as a parameter. If it is a filename/ path the function should include the file from the base URL of the current site (such as [url]). If it is a full URL just include it.
Make sure you don't allow files to be included multiple times, we don't want that!

There is many examples of PageLoader's etc. in the web, but I can't find a script like facebook (and many other sites) uses. When a link is cliked -> user stays at current page and get's "Page loading" etc. notice until the next page is fully downloaded.In other words; When I click a link (Internet Explorer), I get first "a white page" until next page show's ..I want, that the page does not go white at all, but current page show's until the next page is fully downloaded.

I've got 2 pages: a current events page and a past events page the current events page loads fine as there is only about 10 events the past events page takes about 30 seconds to load and will crash if u click your mouse in the loading time.
The pages are near identical the only difference is the query that selects the events (> versus <)
The page loads immediately without:
But when i put it back in the above happens. I'm using jQuery.roundedcorners.

I have a button in my site which when clicked, will set the current page to be the home page for the user. I use the following code:
var hiddenLink = document.getElementById('dummyLink');
hiddenLink.style.behavior='url(#default#homepage)'
hiddenLink.setHomePage('http://www.123.com');
somewhere in my <body>, I have the following link definition:
<a href="#" id="'dummyLink'" style="display:none"></a>
Now, this solution works fine for IE But I need to have a working solution for Firefox and Opera too. Does anyone know how to solve this in these 2 browers?

Our company own a lot of domains and want to put a short page of copy on each address along with keywords before redirecting the user to our main site. I have been able to get the page to load the main site after the desired time using this code in the head...
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="40;URL=http://webaddress.com/">
That works perfectly, I am now trying to display a countdown timer from 40 seconds down to 0, and on 0 redirect the user. Saying something like "You will be redirected in XX seconds". Is there anyway of doing this? I've been searching google for the answers with no luck and can only seem to find timers that countdown to a set date.

I'm working on an educational website for reading strategies where I would like to have the possibilty for the user to highlight text and the possibilty to check their highlighted answers.User task: Mark all the cause and effect connectors (because, so, therefore etc) in the text.Now I want the user to take the mouse and go over the text and mark all these connectors in the text. After marking the entire text the user will get feedback for his correct and incorrect answers and a possibilty to correct his mistakes.If the user marks in the sentence "He got hurt, because he fell of his bike." the word 'because' I would like somewhere else on the page be written that he did this correctly. If he would mark the word 'hurt' I would like the user to get a feedback saying that this answer is incorrect.Is this possible with simple html or do I need something else. If I need something else what do I need and maybe there is already a ready to use script for this.

People have complained that window.find() doesn't work, and everyone knows Gecko doesn't support IE's proprietary TextRange object, some have assumed you can't do this in Gecko.
On the contrary though:
Node.prototype.findTextMatches = [];
Node.prototype.findText = function(query, ignoreCase) {
this.findTextMatches.length = 0;
if (ignoreCase)
query = query.toLowerCase();
var tw = this.ownerDocument.createTreeWalker(this, NodeFilter.SHOW_TEXT, { acceptNode: function(node) {return NodeFilter['FILTER_' + (RegExp(query, (ignoreCase ? 'i' : '')).test(node.nodeValue) ? 'ACCEPT' : 'REJECT')] } }, true);
var offsets = [];
offsets[-1] = query.length * -1;
var totalMatches, trueOffsetDiff;
var range = this.ownerDocument.createRange();
while (tw.nextNode()) {
totalMatches = tw.currentNode.nodeValue.split(RegExp(query, (ignoreCase ? 'i' : ''))).length - 1;
for (var i = 0; i < totalMatches; i++) {
trueOffsetDiff = offsets[offsets.length - 1] + query.length;
offsets[offsets.length] = tw.currentNode.nodeValue.substr(trueOffsetDiff)[ignoreCase ? 'toLowerCase' : 'toString']().indexOf(query) + trueOffsetDiff;
range.selectNode(tw.currentNode);
range.setStart(tw.currentNode, offsets[offsets.length - 1]);
range.setEnd(tw.currentNode, range.startOffset + query.length);
this.findTextMatches[this.findTextMatches.length] = range.cloneRange();
}
offsets.length = 0;
}
return (tw.currentNode != this);
}
Node.prototype.highlightText = function() {
if (this.findTextMatches.length > 0) {
with (window.getSelection()) {
removeAllRanges();
addRange(this.findTextMatches.shift());
}
return true;
}
else
return false;
}
To search all text in the body, ignoring case, you'd go like:
document.body.findText('search query', true);
That loads up an array full of ranges selecting the text into document.body.findTextMatches.
To selectively highlight next occurences after executing findText:
document.body.highlightText();
// highlights first occurence
document.body.highlightText();
// removes previous selection, highlights second occurrence
// etc
Just calling that method over and over will successfully highlight instances. It returns true if it highlighted something, false otherwise,
Also, since I prototyped Node, it works not just in HTML documents, but can work in XML documents too.
Calling document.findText in an HTMLDocument may cause interesting results, as it searches through all the nodes, including <head>...

I have extremely text intensive web pages. A search engine can find the page but then my users have to search for the word using Ctrl+F. Google can highlight the found terms on the page but google does not index every page on my sites.
I need a way to highlight found words on my web pages by using an input box at the top of the page. The user will type in a word to find and the script will highlight all the found words on a page.
Here is code that is supposed to work to find an individual word but not all words. The code does not work for me.

I recently had a request from a client and I'm not entirely sure this is possible. I'll try to explain it the best I can, as I can't share the development files yet...
We have a page with an image map of the United States. If anyone clicks on a state, it will bring them to a new
page. This new page contains a table that has named anchors on it, each row being a different state.
So, for example, if someone clicks on South Carolina on the map page, they will be brought here[code]...
The #sc anchor will scroll the new page down to the row in the table about South Carolina.
Is there any way to highlight the table row that the person is looking for? For example, if they click on South Carolina, they will be brought to this new page and the South Carolina row in the table would be highlighted.

Currently using jQuery's
function loadContent(elementSelector, sourceURL) {
$(""+elementSelector+"").load(""+sourceURL+"");
}
and href="javascript:loadContent('#content', 'page/home.html');"
to load some remote content into the main container. The problems is: i'm unable to find any working solution to highlight the current, active menu item (build as an <ul> and styled with external css), considering the main page isn't reloading - especially when i'm in no way able to understand JS at all.Would any of you have any idea how to mark the current menu item marked as active untill another one is chosen - and then repeat the function?

I have an image scroller with several elements connected to it in an array. When the image goes to the next slide, the elements (title, category, desc., etc.) adjust to coincide with the new image. My issue is that I am unable to create an element (category) that pulls each "category:'current slide category'," entered in the array as a list and highlights the current slide's corresponding category.
E.g.,
var slides = Array(
{ <!--slide 1 -->
url: 'images/image1.jpg',
category:'category 1',
title: 'This is the title of the image/article',
imgLink: '#',
caption: 'This briefly explains the image/article', },
{ <!--slide 2 -->
url: 'images/image2.jpg',
category:'category 2',
Title: 'this is the title of the image/article',
imgLink: '#',
caption: 'this briefly explains the image/article',
},)
I want it to display:
>> category 1 / category 2 / category 3
The corresponding slide 2 elements are active/visible in the slideshow, so whatever is entered as the category for each slide should be listed visibly (instead of the non-current items fading) and then highlighting the current one.
Slideshow JS (category element on lines 309-313): [URL]
