I have a client that wants to add images to her website,.I need a script that can scale an image and keep it portrait/landscape, but inside a 120x120 box.As far as I know (from my limited knowledge) it would go something like
if height > width
then height = 120px
else width = 120px

I want to set the width of a div to be the same width of the image inside the div.The following code works great. But...The images are different widths, so both wrappers are set to the width of the first image. Without having to add an ID to each wrapper or image, can the wrapper width be set to the image width using the name of the image as the unique identifier?
jQuery:
$(document).ready(function(){
var newWidth = $('div.wrapper img').attr('width');
$('div.wrapper').width(newWidth);
});
HTML:
<div class="wrapper">
<p><img src="image1.jpg" width="200" /><br />
Caption</p>
</div>

I want to preload some images for a webpage _and_ determing their width and
height. The problem is that the scripts continue while the images are loaded in the
background, while I need the thus undefined values of image.width and image.height.
Thus I'm looking for a function which stops executing my script until the
images are all fully loaded.
Some non-working sample code included. Notice this only doesn't work well on Firefox. The code runs without errors, but it doesn't get the correct height and width. To see the
problem the images used shouldn't be in the browser cache. Code:

I have very limited experience with web development so apologies if this is a stupid question. I'm using some code I found online to show/hide a table using javascript. Everything works as it should EXCEPT that in Firefox rather than having the table auto-size each column to fill up the entire width (900px), the table uses the minimum width for each column necessary to display all of the data. I've tried a number of things (setting overflow, manually specifying div width or table width, etc.) but nothing seems to get it to take up the full width as it does in IE and Chrome. You can see the page / code here: [URL]
The javscript I'm using is:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function showHide(_myObj,_action) {
var _myTableObj = document.getElementById((_myObj.parentNode.id).substring(0,(_myObj.parentNode.id).indexOf('_')));
if (_action == 'show') { .....

Provided an interface to a search engine in which the onchange event in
a select list element generates between 7 and 13 additional elements
depending on the option chosen.
Here's what the customer *now* wants to do:
Generate between 200 and 350 elements. Furthermore, the logic is going
to be more complex.
I would be happy to make that happen, however here's my concern: I'm
already doing this from the server side, using CGI. I wonder what is
going to happen when we put that degree of "work" on the client browser.
I would welcome comments, caveats, or pointers to documentation and
discussions on this subject.

I have a Div element (id=Div1) that is absolutely positioned on the page. Inside it I have another Div (id=Div2) that is absolutely sized so that it fills the whole of Dvi1.Looking at the UI/Effects/Scale page in the API docs I see the example code:
$("div").click(function () {
$(this).hide("scale", {}, 1000);
});
Translating this I am trying to make Div2 shrink until it vanishes, as shown in the example, so I am using $("#Div2") to get this done, however, it does not work.Is this because the Div (either of them!) is absolutely positioned? Ideally Id like Div2 to shrink away to nothing on the click of a button, but first steps first.

I've been trying to show a div using jQuery's show function with the scale effect. My code works fine in Firefox. When I test it in IE7, it breaks. I narrowed it down to either the origin argument of the scale effect, or the time argument of the show function (which seems unlikely). Like this:
Works in IE7, italics added to show commented code better:
Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#hover").hover(
function() {$("#content_show").show("scale",{percent: 100, direction: 'vertical'});},//, origin: ['center','center']},500);},
[Code]....
Also, not as important, but what is the syntax of the origin property? What values can I use in it?

My javascript canvas width and height are both 960. I have found that my screen horizontal and vertical resolutions are both 96 dpi. Thus, when a drawing is rendered in the full width and height of the canvas, it should be measurable by a ruler to be physically 10 inches by 10 inches. I did measure the display on the screen and found it to be actually about 11 and 3/16 inches wide. What is the proper way to scale a canvas so that the resulting physical dimensions can be calculated more precisely?

I'm converting a flash site [URL] to HTML, and I'm using the force of jquery for the animations.If you go to the site above and click "The Course" tab you'll see a scale toggle with the thumbnails. I want to know how to do that solidly.
A) I tried all day yesterday to do it with this function:
$(document).ready(function(){ $(".hole").hide(); $(".course_thumbs").hover(function(){ $(this).find(".hole").toggle("scale"{}1000); return false; }); });
With HTML:
<div class="course_thumbs"> <img src="images/course/thumbs/hole_th_01.jpg"

I am trying to reset the width of the image while loading:
<img src='s.jpg' onload="javascript:if(this.width>120)
this.width=100;">
It's ok. And then I am going to make the code more flexible
<img src='s.jpg'
onload="javascript:if(this.width>javascript:window.document.body.offsetWidth)
this.width=50;">
this time, I compare the image width with the offsetWidth, however, I
found the code above didn't work no matter how small offsetWidh is
made.
BTW, I would like to make the width of image fit the current width of
the document, only HTML works fine under IE
<img src='s.jpg' width="100%" LEFTMARGIN=10>
But when applying the above code to the image of small size, it always
try to strech the image ,which will then look very bad.
I am trying to apply the code on condiiton: when the width of image is
smaller than a given value, do nothing; otherwise add "width=100%
LEFTMARGIN=10". Here is the javascript I tried
<img src='s.jpg' onload="javascript:if(this.width>100)
javascript:document.write('WIDTH=100% LEFTMARGIN=10');">
However, it didn't give the result I want.

I've been building this simple image viewer for an image gallery from scratch. Basically it loads the large image on the same page. The div is hidden when the page first loads, then when the user clicks on a thumbnail, the div is then set to "visible" with javascript and the larger images are shown. But for some reason the image width isn't updating correctly. Here is the code I'm working with:The HTML for the hidden div (the large view):

My question is, can jQuery set a width and height of 100% and have it work in IE?[code]...

I'm trying to learn a bit more Javascript/jQuery and I want to write a bit of code to adjust 'background-position' based on the width of the 'background-image'. So my short question is, How can I find the width of a background image using Javascript/jQuery? For those who are interested in what I'm doing (or trying): I have a list where each item has a background image along with some text. I want the images to all centrally-align along a vertical axis in a space to the left of the text. Problem is, the images are different widths, so I want to use jQuery to find their widths and calculate the appropriate background-position.

The *small, medium fullsize* text will be off to the left (in IE8 or IE9, works fine in Chrome, FireFox) and will not be aligned with the left edge of the image.
Code [URL] Line 154:
Code JavaScript:
ShowView.prototype.setImageSrc = function (imagesrc) {
var image = $('img#image');
[code]...
From what I can tell the `container.width(imageWidth);` is not rendered in IE8 or IE9. If the page is refreshed then it works. Using the built in developer tool shows the correct value in the html but if you use selector tool in the developer tool outline does not reflect the changed width value.I've tried using vanilla javascript. That did not work. I've tried setting the image source twice. That did not work either.
