View 6 RepliesWhat I want is a piece of code that reads a table and inserts new entries into a listbox on the user side. I dont want to have to "refresh" the page to get new entries into the listbox.Essentially, the table will get updated by an app on one side and I want users to be able to view the updates as they occur.

Why does Firefox insert #text nodes as children of TR elements?
As a work-around for older Safari versions not properly supporting a
table row's cells collection, I used the row's childNodes collection as
it was pretty much exactly the same thing. However, in Firefox 1.0.7
text nodes are inserted between the TDs. I'm certain that this didn't
use to happen with older versions.
The HTML specification states that the only element that can be the
child of a TR is a TD, so why does Firefox put text nodes in there?
If this how the DOM is supposed to be built, can someone give me a
reference to where it states that? Or should this be reported as a
Firefox bug?
I have a text box.I need to
1) search the database for the words user is typing in the text box. This will happen with each key press.
2) if there is a match - I need to change the text color.
How can I achieve this?
I am trying to use the jquery keydown event.I wan to fade in a div that is a form then when the user presses keycode 17 meaning control key this div and form will fade in at the center of the screen.here is the code I have:
<html>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/home/main.css"/>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.domain.com/pngFix/jquery-1.3.2.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript"[code]...
This is in a php file and echoing the code. So the " " ignore it it's just saying to php that those are to be echoed as " " This code isn't working. I would press control key but no fade in occurs. I include this php file to all my websites webpages which are php files.
My script is used to check some text field before the user upload some text, below you can see the code:

(i guess something is wrong since internet explorer works and chrome/firefox not) I also forgot to mention that the script works just fine when i am testing the webpage on my pc, the problem is when i used the webpage not locally but over the net, is there any setting should i change on my hosting server?
I have one html-file where the user inserts a search path for an excel file. When the user clicks the button the data in the excel file should be presented in a <TABLE>. (Yeah, I know, activex only works in IE .. but that's good enough for this project)
The problem is .. I started out with a "fixed" search path for the excel file, so I didn't have the code in a function. That worked just fine. Once I added the function {} around the code it wouldn't work, it works just fine if I comment out the form-part and the function-part, and give the search path, of course.
It also works just fine if I use the function and form, but remove the <TABLE>- and <TR>-rows

I need to pass user input from a form to one database field. I'm relatively new to JS but the idea I had was to have several form elements and use JS to collect the users input and send all the values through a hidden element. What's happening is the variable names are being sent rather than the values. The code below is only passing to the next page. Limitations: I am editing an intranet site built by a 3rd party so a lot of the files we've been given are encrypted. I cannot change the method to post.

I'm now working on kind of invoice form which in it the user can add as much input field as he wants.
The problem is that after adding a new input field - the content in the other fields is deleted.
Code:
I have a website containing 26 subdirectories 'a' to 'z'
On the home page I want a text field and submit button
If someone for example types 'j' it will go to the 'j' folder home page
Does anyone know where I might find code like this?
I'm trying to change what the user types in a text field if they hit a certain key combination. For example, "cx".
This code checks for the letter "x" to be pressed, then checks to see if the second to last letter is the letter "c". If it is, then it deletes the letter "x" and replaces the "c" with the letter "ĉ".
Code:
// This code checks for a certain keypress combo. For example cx, Cx, gx, Gx, etc...
// The hard to type esperanto characters we aim to insert.
var esperanto_c = "ĉ";

I have a form which goes to my insert page which inserts the data into the table. Except I didn't want to do a redirect to another page so I thought I would do an Ajax call. Both pages work until I change it to an ajax call.
I am pretty certain that it is because I took out the <form action="insert.php"> because otherwise the page would redirect but if that is the case I don't know my way around it and if it isn't the problem I'm not sure what is.
But here is my code:

I have a form that has multiple text fields but what I'm needing to do is when a dollar amount is added to text field 1 I need to set the opposite amt in text field 2 and then NOT allow the user to make any changes to text field 2 but making it unavailable for change.
Also here is my function:
$(function() {
$("#ARTransferForm\:fromAccountAmt").blur(function() {
var fromAccountAmount = $("#ARTransferForm\:fromAccountAmt").val();
alert("fromAccountAmount " + fromAccountAmount);

I have a small piece of code (taken largely from W3 Schools)that checks that there is a decimal point entered in a form field, but what I really need is to check that the number entered ends in 2 decimal places.
e.g.
10 is Invalid
10.00 is Valid
My current code is below. Can someone explain what I need to do to ensure that the user enters a number including two trailing decimal places please?

I'm a little curious with regards to alerting a user to invalid data in a form field through inline alerts, rather than alert boxes and without a page load.In otherwords, if someone types in invalid data into a form field, before they hit the submit button, I'd like to use javascript the insert some red text on the side saying "this is invalid".I'm concerned that people with visual disabilities wont notice it due to their screen readers.I.e. if the screen doesn't re-load, will the screen read read the nexly inserted text or will it not do anything until a new page loads?

I'm learning javascript, and was wondering if it was Possible to have buttons/links that you click, the whole page fades out, and then fade's in, with different stuff. here are my ideas for just changing the stuff
Text: 1. having a javascript src file to start, and then when the button is clicked, that is formatted to white, the text layer is moved down, and a new javascript file is loaded?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right
<script language="javascript">
fields = 1;
function addMore() {
if (fields = 1) {
document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field2' size='25' /> <span>Field 2.</span>";

I have a text box which will receive its value from a pop-up date picker.
The user should not be able to edit this field with the keyboard or mouse.
I am using ASP.NET. If I set the readonly property of the textbox to true,
it won't let the user change it and it can receive its value from the pop-op
calendar, just what I need. Problem is, after a postback, value is lost.
So I think Javascript may come to the rescue here. Is there a way to make a
field "non user-editable" without setting the "readonly" attribute? Maybe a
trick to make the field reject focus?
I am very green in Javascript but I am working on it, I was wondering if this is even possible:
I have a bit of information as just text on a page, what I would like to do is to have the text change according to which form button they select. The trick is that the text information is not in a form, its just in a table.
example:
Here would be blah blah blah
()<-bad impression of a button
once I select that button, the information above it would change to something different.
I have a form and inside the text fields I have a note that indicates: Type here your name...all this instead of having titles for each field. That text is set as initial value and the user has to highlight the text to delete it. What I am wondering is if there is a way to have the text but when the user clicks on the Field the text disappears and there is no need for deleting. I have seen this before but I can recall where.
