Dynamically Filling In A 3rd Value In Select Pulldowns Depending On Whats Entered In The First 2
Jul 20, 2005
I have 3 select pulldown boxes where a user will select a year (either
2002 or 2001), a week (one thru 52), and a database (short data or long
data). But if a user selects a week that is less than 4, the 3rd select
pulldown will only show the choice of "short data", as they will not be
able to select "long data". Is it dynamically possible in javascript to
program a third pull down in this fashion?

I have a form that works out some basic math questions e.g. area etc. I run a function when a form field is updated to do the calculations, however I'd like to run a different calculation depending on which form element was updated. Is there a way to say something like:
if (area1 was updated) {
work out this calculation
}
if(area2 was updated) {
work out this calculation
}
and so on?

I have an ASP page that displays, along with other data, a list of items that refer to a specific element in a database. Instead of adding an Add button, I would like to display a text box below the last item in the list to have the user input any new data. Once they enter the data and hit Enter, the data they enter should then be added to the list and another text box added beneath this item (just as forms and tables in Access do). However, I'm not sure how to implement this functionality.

Is there anybody who knows were to find a javascript that does the trick
of conditional pulldowns (3).
Here is what i am looking for:
When you select an item from the first pulldown, the second pulldown

I have a web page that has a select box and a textbox to add data into the select box. What I want to do is when I enter some data say a "valid date" in the textbox and click on Add button it should copy the same to the textbox such that ,when I navigate to a different link in the web interface and visit the same page again, the value that I had entered earlier should remain in the select box and be visible.
I have been able to copy the data from the textbox to the select box, but when I revisit the same page the value entered earlier does not remain in the page. Once the values are stored in the select box, those values in the select box should be copied to a structure written in C language in the backend.Can anyone tell me how can I store the values entered during runtime in the select box using javascript.

I want 2 <select> drop down menus.
I want <select #2> to show a list depening on what the user choose for <select #1>. The tricky part is, not allowing the user to see what <select #2> lists are. Maybe fade it out untill they pick something from <select #1>.

I want to have <div> cells that the background-color css style dynamically change between 4 colors depending on how many times they are clicked. The options are none, yellow, red and green then repeat. So when the page loads, they are all at none, and if you click once it goes to green, twice to yellow, three times to red, then back to none.

I have a php file that generates different content based on a get variable in the url. test.php?foo=bar1
I'm loading this into a div on my site with
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#result").load("test.php?foo=bar1");
});
</script>
Well that works, but i want to add a select option <option>bar1</option> option>bar2</option>
And depending what option is selected, i want to load that get instead. So if bar2 is selected, the load should (asyncronosly) load test.php?foo=bar2 instead.

According to [URL] intended way for jQuery to change dynamically the selected option of a dropdown select control isassigningthe desired text instead of the value. I found this way veryinconvenient (data structures usually deal with value codes, not value descriptions) and it seems to work only sometimes.
Trying different options I came out with this approach that seems to do the job so
far:
function setSelect(pID,pSelectedValue)
{
$('#'+pID + ' option:selected').removeAttr('selected');

I have tried to write a wait function but it seems like it will not brake the while loop. I tried two different solutions. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, and come with another suggestion? If I call the function like this: wait(500); it should wait 500ms right?
function wait(time) {
while(1){
setTimeout("break;",time);
}
}
function wait(time) {
var flag=0;
while(flag=0){
setTimeout("flag=1;",time);
}
}

So I have a nice little hand rolled Ajax call to my server pulling a list from the database and displaying it in a drop down list dependant on the user input. Aka Google suggest. I am wondering if the quickest way to do this is to call the database each time with Ajax and search the results with the input, or to write an xml from the database and search that. Then when the Database is updated rewrite the xml file.
Am I underestimating MYSQL again? Or not, and I feel it would be good practice to write the xml file because it will essentially mean a lot less database calls. But I dont know how fast searching an xml file would be in comparison to a db call. The results from the database are say 500 entries anywhere between 10 - 100 characters each. I want to know A. The best way to do this B. Lets say the site will have pretty high traffic so I am looking for it to be as tweeked as possible. I can test but thought at the end of my week it was worth seeing what peoples advice is.

I have a select and list of options. I have onkeypress event on the select input. As the user types I am trying to match the entered key strokes to the entries in the options and setting the selected value to the first match.
The problem I am facing is this: My options have 10000,0000, 10001, 1111,0001. Say I type 10, with less than one sec delay I consider them as one unit. So I try to find whether there are any entries in the options which starts with 10 and setting the value. But brower is considering the last entered key stroke , in this example 0 and setting the 0000 which is the first match.
Is there any way that I can stop the browser from doing that or any idea?
Here is the code.

Here's what I'm trying to do: I've got a <SELECT> box followed by a text <INPUT> field, and I want them to change each other. The select box lists a whole list of cities and also "Other", while the text box is labeled "Other." When a user selects anything at all EXCEPT "other" in the select box, I'd like it to clear whatever value is in the textbox. And when a user starts typing in the text box, I'd like it to dynamically select "other" from the textbox. Is this doable? Code:

I'm trying to fill out a form on this site using JavaScript: [URL]
However, the fields do not have input IDs; they only have span IDs. I've tried using the span IDs, but it doesnsn't work. Here is the code I'm trying to use:
document.getElementById('fn'). value='" FName "';
Where FName is the value I want filled into the field. Could someone please tell me how to use JavaScript to fill in the fields of this form (and check those pesky check boxes)?
