View 5 Replies View RelatedIm testing the use of document.write and Im having trouble making a link work in Safari
document.write('<a href="index.htm"><img src="./images/portrait2.png"></a>');
This works in FF and IE9 but not in Safari (nor in Chrome), In Safari I see the portrait just fine but the cursor doesnt change when overing the image and clicking on it doesnt activate the link. What is the correct way to write this line?
I have tried this and it also doesnt work in Safari and Chrome:
document.write("<a href='index.htm'><img src='./images/portrait2.png'></a>");
I must admit that I'm a newbie in writing javascript.
Can anyone help me with a script that will enable me to display a flash movie on one of my sites.
I am using a standard javascript that I downloaded from
javascriptsource.com to read from and fill in a form using cookies.
The page tests well in every browser except Apple's Safari (from
10.3.2)
Unfortunately, my clients daughter uses Safari so I have to get it to
work with it, even though most of his clients use IE.
What do I need to do to change the code so this will all work in
Safari? Code:
Here is what I am currently using for a script:
<script>
function detectBrowser()
{
var browser=navigator.appName;
var navindex=navigator.userAgent.indexOf('Safari');
if (navindex != -1 || browser=='Safari') {alert("The Apple Safari browser does not calculate correctly.)"}
</script>
And for this to work when the page loads, I use:
<body onload="detectBrowser()";>
Basically, I have received Emails from people stating that my website calculators are off by a factor of 100 for anyone using the Apple Safari browser. Since, my website calculates correctly in Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome, I feel this is an Apple Safari problem. Anyway, the above code seems to work okay, but it generates the pop-up when people are using Google Chrome. Is there any way that the script can be changed so that it only pops up when loading Apple Safari?
I am using jFlow slider for my website and in the head there is that function

View 3 Replies View RelatedI work for a company called Best of the Best (www.botb.com). We use Flash countdown clocks to mark the end of our competitions. The issue we now have is that our clients are using mobile platforms more and more and as bloody Apple wont support flash (not fully anyway) we need the option to detect whether our users have flash and if not then replace the current <OBJECT>Blah Blah Parameters etc</OBJECT> with <DIVCLASS="NON_FLASH_CONTAINER">All other bits in middle</DIV>Is this at all possible?

I am totally new to jQuery and no good knowledge on javascript. However, I was assigned a task, to convert a javascript program to jQuery due to compatibility problem on browsers like Chrome and Safari. My program originally use javascript xmlDoc.load('....') to read XML file, and then use document.write statement to write html tables on client side. Something like this (the sample below may got lots of syntax problem as I jut want to show the major part):
Code:
document.write('<TABLE >');
var y=x[0].getElementsByTagName('NoOfRows');
for (i=0; i<=noofrows-1 && i<=y.length-1; i++){
document.write(' <TD>');
document.write(z[j].getElementsByTagName('RecordDetails')[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue;
}
Now I changed to use jQuery, I can read the XML file elements. However, when I try to write the table, it failed:
[Code]...
Why doesn't this work? The input field doesn't show up at all. I know I'm just missing something really simple here.
<script type="text/javascript">
day = day.getDay()+1;
month = day.getMonth()+1;
year = day.getYear();
newdate= month + '/' + day + '/' + year;
document.write('<INPUT name=Date value='+ newdate + '>');
</script>
I have a client that has ads on her website that really slow down the site. These ads are called by an off site javascript file and I want to use a jQuery(document).ready or similar method to call these files after all of the site content has loaded. But these files contain document.write functions to add more javascript files. Since I want to load the files after everything else has loaded, this in turn makes the page blank and then loads the ad. Is there a way to position where document.write will write to?
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan Javascript be used to detect a certain url and then "not" write some html according to that url and also detect something on the page and "then" display some html?.
Example: I'm working on a volusion site that uses asp. There's basically only one page that's changed dynamically. I would like to display some html when and only if the cart has any items in it. But also not to show up on the check-out pages.
The page dynamically displays "Your cart has 1 item in it..." when the visitors puts something in their cart.
So could javascript detect when this is displayed then write some html and then also detect if the url is showing the cart and then not show the html?
I have created no flash pages and flash pages, but instead of creating a portal at the front of the site that leads you to a flash site and a no flash site id like to do it so the page detects flash or not, and redirects to whichever URL.
Is this possible, or do multiple browsers cause problems ?
I have created a transparent flash video (virtual spokesperson) for my website. For demoing purposes, I would like to have this appear on any desired website.
This is what I am trying to produce - here a virtual spokesperson appears on the [url]website: [url]
Have a look at other sites which enable one to type in a URL and their demo virtual spokesperson appears on the given site: [url] [url]
I believe they do this within an iframe to display the underlying website.
I'm pretty new to JavaScript and am having a problem. I thought what I am doing should work but it isn't.
Basically I have a form that people can put a quantity into. e.g. A, B, C.
I have a JavaScript function called comput that assigns values e.g. A = 5, B = 7, C = 9. Here is the start of the script:
<script language="JavaScript"><!--
function compute(form){
var A = form.A.value * 5;
var B = form.B.value * 7;
var C = form.C.value * 9;
I then declare a variable to add them up:
var ans = A+B+C;
return;
}
</script>
This part of the script works fine. Now I want to write the ans variable. So I use:
<script>
<!--
document.write ("Your total is "+ans+"")
// --></script>
But it isn't working. Any ideas?
The very simple code (below) works fine in Safari (and Chrome, Firefox etc.), but it doesn't work in Mobile Safari. Why?(You can find a working example at: http:[url]....)

I'm looking for websites that do Flash-like things but without using Flash, only with Javascript/ajax.
I'm not looking for a particular effect, I just want examples of sites that have the coolness and eye-catching factor that Flash can have - know what I mean?
I'm working on a website that will basically embed a widget/frame sent by a handler into a user's current page. The user basically adds a script tag to where they would like the HTML to be. The script tag has their settings and is basically a document.write that calls all the code that we want displayed.So here's my problem. We have a map that we need to add in a specific section, and to get the map we have to call another script tag. So we end up having a script tag (map) embedded in another script tag (the code for the widget/frame) or we end up having to document.write inside a document.write.
Now this works just fine and as expected in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. However, Internet Explorer and Opera wait until the first document.write is completely finished before calling the embedded one. Of course the problem with this, is that it takes the map out of the document's flow and just appends it to the bottom left of the page. Since the rest of the page has already been called, there's no way to move the interior "map" script.Any ideas? Basically just trying to figure out how (if even possible) to render an embedded script tag in Internet Explorer and be able to place it properly. I've tried everything that I can think of, including AJAX and Google's unescape script.
i have a function (i wont write it out coz it is too long!) but after i have done the main calculations within this function i wont to display some of the variables in a table.
i have writen:
document.write(
<table border="1">
<tr><td>
Value 1
</td><td>
[Code]...
Here is the problem
I have the a hovering div, within that div i have settings that people
can change, but for some reason there needs to be a smal flash
animation with a continual sound clip. When a user clicks close the
hovering div should be removed from the domtree thus removing the div
and the flash movie.
In FF this works fine.
In IE it also works, in that the div is deleted, but for somereason the
sound continues to play on the page. Even though the flash element
doesnt exist. Have done a document.getElementById(flashmovie) to
determine if its there.
I am removing the node from the tree using
document.body.removeChild(hoveringdiv); where hoveringdiv is the
element itself.
Now as you can imagine the continuous sound is an annoyance. How do i
stop flash playing, and hence remove the sound, or how do i mute the
flash. Is this possible in Javascript? I cant access the swf or
actionscript.
Also if this isnt possible can someone point me to where i can learn
about how IE handles sound within a webpage so i can see if there is
some pointers in there.
I need a map that pop up pictures when the mouse is over a specific area. I was wondering if java would be the way to go if I wanted to do this without flash. If so should I use layers and just make them visible when the mouse is in a specific area? For multiple pics is it possible to store the images in an array and have them load on call? I'm still a student and learning so I'm not sure what limits javascripting has yet.
