Delay While Page Is Loading
Jul 20, 2005
I've got a script that caches 52 card images and displays the
appropriate card based on user input. It works fine, except when the
page loads for the first time the results are unpredictable until a
few seconds elapse. My guess is that it's taking time to cache the 52
images. Is there any way to delay the loading of the page until all 52
images are cached?

I am using DOM to swap between DIVs to give the effect of a tabbed display window. Each of the DIVs contains its own images. I don't want all of these images to load with the page but rather just to load when the relevant DIV is selected. (All but 1 DIVs are hidden initially.)
By default, is this the case? Or can I use a function to not allow the images to load until I tell them to?

I have an image that I want to delay the load of by 3 - 5 seconds. I've found tons of stuff on how to preload images, but nothing on how to delay the load of images.
I think this is something I can do with JavaScript and the setTimeout function. (If it's not, just direct me to the correct forum.) However, this is the image code and I just need to delay it loading:
<a href="http://www.website.com"><img src="http://www.website.com/image.jpg" class="imgclass" /></a>

With a javascript timer to delay the loading of the main container div on a website.
The reason is that I would like the background image (560k) to load first and then the site to load after. I found the opposite of what I need;

I recently set up a JQuery script to show and hide a specific DIV on my site. Everything is working correctly except when the page is loading, the DIV is fully expanded and hides as it's supposed to a few seconds later. Ideally, I would like this DIV to remain hidden until the user actually clicks on it. This seems to be a performance issue, but honestly I am a JavaScript novice so I really don't know where to go from here.
The page in questions is here. And the specific areas that use this script are the "Change Log" and "Readme" boxes.

I have a button on my site, which when clicked calls an ajax function. What I want to do though, is append a loading graphic for just 2 seconds inside the button such that it looks as if the website is 'busy' saving when the button is clicked. This is obviously just for user feedback as the 'save' is done instantly - it's just for user feedback to make the user confident that the save button has worked. To do this, I'm trying to append a loading image to the save button, delay for 2 seconds, then remove the image, but it doesn't seem to work.
I have this HTML:
<p><a href="#" title="" class="save">Save</a></p>
And this jQuery:

My question, is their a way to fix the delay on the way the accordion loads. if you go to my site [URL] you'll see that initially all the sections are visible and then they collapse after a few moments. is there anyway to make it so they are collapsed immediately.

I have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.
The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.
After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.
The current code is:
CSS for the loading DIV is:

I have a lot of javascript functions that request information from an iframe hidden on the page. I see other sites do this, but their browser does not do the loading action (like the processing circle in Firefox). When I do it on my site, each browser shows the loading icon, as if a page was loading. Is it possible to not have this?

That is a sample link. Go down right side of page where you see three buttons: Trailers Featurettes Clips.Those return iframe information to work.

I have the code below which pops up a pop up on page load.
I simply want to wait for 10 seconds after the page load for the pop up to appear. Is there a jquery way that I could add to the below code to make this work?
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery.lightbox("www.mydomain.com/popup.html?lightbox[width]=650&lightbox[height]=480");
});
</script>

Ive added a randomized header script to my page :
[URL]
The code is working correctly but due to the page load time - there is a delay in the new header image appearing when switching pages.
Here is the Javascript:
// JavaScript Document
var chosenImage=new Array();
chosenImage[0]="header_01.jpg";
chosenImage[1]="header_02.jpg";
[code]....
The function is called from the html page using the following:
<body onload="randomImage()";>
Is there anyway to avoid this delay or will i be forced to grin and bear it due to the weight of the pages im loading in.

I have created a party-events website. Which displays a lot of dates of events. As you might understand this page takes some time to load. Therefor I want some of loading image to be displayed while the page is loading. Anybody has an idea how to pull this of? I don't know how.
In detail: People come to my website. They click on "events" and a loading.gif pops up and and makes the background darker. After the page has completely loaded the loading image disappears and the website shows.

I have a page which takes information from a user. When the user clicks the "send" button, it stores data in a cookie then does a javascript redirect to the next page which grabs the info. I don't want the data to be present in the URL on the next page and the site is supposed to be put together without the use of PHP (the 2nd page is a confirm page that sends the data to Web Services).
This has been working great for everyone who has tried it, but there are a handful of complaints that users will not get the information they expected on the 2nd page. My question is, as I'm trying to debug this stuff, is it reasonable to think that the cookie may not be properly stored in time for the redirect to take place for some users?

the situation: I'm building a web page, and the client wants to have three flash galleries on staggered timing (i.e., the first one loads and runs, 4 seconds later the second loads and runs, 4 seconds later, third one loads and runs).
I've been trying to figure out how to use Javascript to handle the initial delay between each object, and the best I can figure is to use an onLoad to start the first flash (Flash1), and then call out a function with setTimeout to start Flash2 4 seconds after Flash1 loads, and the same thing for Flash3. However, my attempts thus far have failed, and all three load up at the same time.

My goal is to load the JS for a specific element before displaying that element. I integrated a third part script, and it works well. I set the timer here:
The JS is in my heading as <script type="text/javascript" src="countdownpro.js"></script>
About mid-body I have: <span id="countdown1">2010-07-20 00:00:00 GMT+00:00</span> which allows for the setting of a target date to countdown to.
When the page first loads it shows the above long format target time, until the js/meta tags kick in to modify it to just show the actual countdown as 00:00:00.
I have attached countdownpro.js to this post. I tried shifting the function CD_Init() to the top of the script, and also appended it inline with the .html. I tried setting the big external script to "defer", but neither arrangement worked. I also tried placing the src file right at the top.

I am opening pop up windows from a hint button on several pages in my
site. If the user leaves the pop up window open from a previous page, I
would like the new hint to open in that window.
I thought that by giving the pop-ups the same name it should work (see
code below) but it isnt. Every time a user clicks on the hint button
the popup opens in a new window regardless of the fact that a previous
hint window is open .
here is my code that calls the function from an html page (there is
also some rollover code in it):
