Copy Links Onto Other Elements?
Jun 16, 2011
If you have a div with a link and other elements, such as an article snippet, is it possible to use JavaScript to copy that link onto one of the adjacent elements (one that a user might be expected to try to click, such as a heading or a thumbnail image, based on their experience of other sites) so that I can avoid duplicating the link in the HTML?
I'm trying a jQuery plugin called Biggerlink, but it adds the link to the entire parent div, white space and all, which is not what I want. And if I could do without jQuery, that would be good.
I want to avoid having multiple links to the same location so that lists of links are, I hope, kept short and clear, while at the same time catering for people (and I do it, too) who expect snippet headings to be clickable.

From any page, I want to be able to call a JS function that will do the
equivelant of select all, and copy. This data will then be posted to a
page that will log it.
This would be easy using copy/paste functionality but I don't want to
screw-up users copy/paste buffer. Anyone have an example of how to
retrieve all text with similar formatting of copying page to notepad
without using copy/paste functionality?

I am new to jquery, and love it so far, but I am more of a designer, not a developer. I am learning jquery to enhance my sites, and I am having a problem figuring out buttons.
I have them working in firefox and safari, but in IE links do not work.
Here is the script I have, and the button code.

My menu navigation(Home, Hosting Solution, etc..)
1. The submenu links need to be centered in the middle of the div instead of aligned to the left.
2. Can the submenu links have a rounded box appear under them, instead of being underlined links. Like these at the top: [url]
3: The top tab needs to stay gray/active/on when the mouse is moved down to the submenu or when it is the active button.
Here is the link of the site [url]

I'm using jquery/ajax to create some links with window.open method. Here's the relevant code:
$("#content").empty();
$.ajax({
type: "GET",[code]..........
Basically, when you click a link a function is called with a parameter based on the particular link you run. Then the code runs through an xml file, and if the parent of the nodes I've cyling through has a value equal to the parameter past to the function, that node is used to create a new link with window.open function attached to it.It all works, or seems to, and when I alert what is being built, it looks right to me, yet the links don't work.I've attached a copy of one of the alerts of one of the links as it's built.

I have an image wrapped inside a link tag.<a href="somepage.html"><img id="content" src="img/some.gif" /></a>
I want this .click target to be the link: $('a').click(function(e){
Instead, the target returned is the image [HTMLImageElement].
I have tried using closest()and currentTarget:
But they all still return the image, not the link.

I have a page I am working and I am having some trouble with: I need to show and hide areas based on a radio selection. I initally started using the show / hide feature in Jquery but the problem is the elements need to be removed but then put back if the user selects the radio buttonagain as it has form elements that have validaion on them. The validation is still trying to validate the form elements becuase they are still on the page but just not showing. This is the radio group the user makes the selection from:
<input name="terms_usr" type="radio" id="terms_usr_1" value="1"/>
<label for="terms_usr_1">Credit Card</label>
<input type="radio" name="terms_usr" id="terms_usr_2" value="2"/>
<label for="terms_usr_2">C.O.D</label>

I have HTML tags stored in XML. I want to be able to use these HTML elements with Javascript, just as you can with elements in document.body. How can it be done? (And don't try and tell me I should use server-side because I have written it all for Javascript and the project is nearly complete minus this and there are practical reasons for not doing this server-side. After all, anything is possible with Javascript!)
Let me explain:
- I have HTML templates such as this [URL]
- I want javascript to populate these templates then add them to my page
- The only way I know javascript can get this kind of data is by parsing XML
- I want to parse the XML then be able to use the HTML elements just like those in document.body
- As far as I'm aware, XML is the only good way of storing data for javascript. I don't want to store it in javascript variables (too much multiline data with " and '). Nor do I want to build it using document.createElement("div")... etc
As someone not yet with any experience in computer science etc, please ignore my poor terminology! However, I'm not a beginner when it comes to javascript.
Here's the script concerned but I doubt it'll help you understand my problem: [URL]

I have a web page that uses an <iframe> to embed another document. I want the user to be able to "swap" the content of the main page with what's in the <iframe> and back again with the click of a button. I was able to do this using the location property, but I'm trying to avoid a trip to the server.
I'm thinking I can do this using DOM methods, but I'm having trouble getting it to work. Anyone know how to do this or where I could find some sample code?

If I create an object with the following:
var ob1 = new objMyDefinedObject();
then I assign it to a new variable.
var ob2 = ob1
I know that this isn't coping the object into a new variable, its just
another reference to the SAME object unlike
var a = 20;
var b= a;
Which creates a copy of the variable "a" and stores it in variable "b".
How can I copy my above object into a new variable rather than
reference the same object ? What I want to do is create the object, do
a load of property changes, then copy the object into a new variable
and do a load more property changes.

I have the follwoing code
<div id="detailtable" style="visibility:hidden">
<table id="detailtablehidden" width="100%" border="0">
....
</table>
</div>
I'm trying to copy the table inside to another table by appending it to
a td tag.
...
var the_table = document.getElementById("detailtable").innerHTML;
var td_content = document.createTextNode(the_table);
td.appendChild(td_content);
The problem right now is that I'm getting the table inserted as Text
instead of html. the follwing is an example.
<table _vpps_id="65" id="detailtablehidden"
border="0" width="100%"> <thead> <tr
_vpps_id="66"> <td _vpps_id="67">Student
Name </td> <td

When the form is completed, the visitor may display it in another window

second window, the form's content is send automatically to the clipboard
so it could be pasted in another application (Word, etc.).
I demonstrate it in two simple pages.
