If I have a .js file filled with data like links. how do i access just
1 element [random] and bring it on my page
Im trying to have a click event that replaces an image on the page with a new image that has been selected randomly from an array. I have solved PART of this already (can get the random image to appear).
However, instead of appearing on the page where the old image was, the new image appears in a blank page.
My research indicates that thisblank page location-problem is a result of using document.write in the Function. Therefore, I know I need to find a different way to accomplish this, but am failing miserably.
I have been trying for hours and hours and HOURS to figure out proper syntax for accomplishing this via elements, functions, variables and mootools.
A bit of my research:
I found this---but havent figured out how to implement it in my scenario:

I want to display varying company information from a javascript array randomly each time the page is refreshed. My problem is that the each piece of company information must be split up into 3-4 array elements since I have set up spans in the body where the information go accordingly and as such I don't how to randomize that.So essentially the process is:
1. The person clicks on the company name.
2. Relevant information from the array is shown in the div.
But what I want is that on startup, information about a random company is shown automatically. How can I achieve this?
I have the following code but it simply writes the path to the webpage.I actually want it to randomly select the .js code in that path and run it.

I think my problem is creating the new array of names - only those that are checked - from which to randomly select the single item. Based on the below, if I select the top and bottom items, I get something like: Joe,,,,,,,,,Bob as my array output for checkednames code...
View 7 Replies View RelatedUsing JavaScript, I require a code that allows me to play .wav sound files randomly and automatically on page start-up, I also need them to loop as they are drum beats. The plan: to load my web page and hear a random drum beat that loops continuously. I need it to be compatible with most, if not all Internet browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera are crucial) and to state what sound file is playing on the page (allowing me to identify the looping drum beat/sound file), and if possible to provide a link to the actual sound file for download.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a page built in Sharepoint. I need to create a little search box within that page so people can search for names on that same page. It's a page with a lot of text, hence why the search feature is needed.
I can only use an XML editor.
I have one html-file where the user inserts a search path for an excel file. When the user clicks the button the data in the excel file should be presented in a <TABLE>. (Yeah, I know, activex only works in IE .. but that's good enough for this project)
The problem is .. I started out with a "fixed" search path for the excel file, so I didn't have the code in a function. That worked just fine. Once I added the function {} around the code it wouldn't work, it works just fine if I comment out the form-part and the function-part, and give the search path, of course.
It also works just fine if I use the function and form, but remove the <TABLE>- and <TR>-rows

I am currently successfully using the following code to randomly change the color of specified text ("quotations" - see below) each time the page is reloaded. The only problem is that the colors are too random. Instead of the code I now have, I'm looking for code that would allow me to define a distinct list of colors through which the text would randomly rotate each time the page loads. In other words, I want to choose each of the randomly loaded colors of my text.

var quotations = new Array()
quotations[1]= "text1"
quotations[2]= "text2"
quotations[3]= "text3"
quotations[4]= "text4"
quotations[5]= "text5"
function display(){
a=Math.floor(Math.random()*quotations.length)
document.getElementById('quotation').innerHTML=quotations[a]
setTimeout("display()",500000) .....
}

function rancolour(){
var red = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
var green = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
var blue = Math.floor(Math.random() * 255);
document.all.main.style.color = 'rgb('+red+','+green+','+blue+')';

I have the following array in a chatbot
Code:
Sites=new Array("alcatraz,California in the USA","eiffel tower,Paris in France","empire state building,New York in the USA");
This piece of code searches the first part of the array and triggers the second part as a response. That all works fine. However, could it be rewritten in a way to eliminate the bailout response of "I don't know." to where it just skips over it if no match is found.I have more If statements further down the script that I want to use instead of the one bailout response. If nothing matches I have one big catchall to respond back with at the very end.
Code:
if (input.search("where is")!= -1)
{document.result.result.value = "I don't know.";

i have a implementation where i need to perform a search and replace. i will try to explain to the best of my ability. i have a variable, var a = "THIS IS SOME SOME TEXT";
then i have another array variable, var b = new Array(); which contains elements in key=value format eg. SOME=NEWSOME so what i need to do is, i need to loop through this array and if SOME exists in var a, then i need to replace it with NEWSOME. so for each value before =, if it exists in var a replace it with whats after =. and replace only once, so if SOME exists multiple times just replace the first occurence.
so essentially my final string would be, THIS IS NEWSOME SOME TEXT.

I have an array in which each element is a long string of various values separated by a particular character.I want to be able to search the array using the first value of each element to get the index.I cannot see how to do this so I have started to create a function for this.I want to take the original array, split out the value into another array and search the new array.I can then use the index returned to retrieve the full string from the original array.However I am having a problem when trying to set the new array and I do not know enough JS to understand what is going wrong.Here is the code:

I'm writing a piece of JS code that returns a result of true if the pattern appears in string as a substring (case sensitive) but would like to extend its functionality to returns true if all the individual characters of pattern appear in string (regardless of order).

For example:This is what the program currently does:
match1("adipisci","pis") returns true
Whereas I would now like it to do this:
match1("adipisci","sciip") returns true
match2("adipisci","sciipx") returns false because x does not exist in variable
match3["adipisci","adipisci"] returns true in array 1 and 2 if "sciip" is searched
match4["adipisci","adipiscix"] returns false in array 1 and true in array 2 if "sciipx" is searched

I'm pretty much lost at javascript, and unfortunately can use php to accomplish this, so here goeI have existing html page that includes a Week #. ie, 1, 2, 3, 5.... and so on.I'd like to be able to have a text, csv, or similar file that I can update on frequent basis that will list a Week # and than custom field of some type. (likely a date or unix time stamp).Is there a way to open a text file (or csv, etc) in javascript. Than be able to compare and get the correct data?Off the top of my head, I think its possible, and would involve something like the following?1. Create a csv file like below1, this is custom, my other custom2, some more, and this too3, and somthing, see spot run2. Next would be have a javascript open and read the file. You would assign a variable name to each 1st, 2nd and 3rd item of each line.Than the script would loop through each line until it found a a match of Variable
