i'm supposed to use javascript to search through a folder that contains many excel files. the search term is obtained from a front end html form, javascript gets that value, search every single excel file in the folder and see which file has a cell that matches the search terms.
I currently know (sort of) how to search through 1 file. but how do I search through many files? and from what i see from the searching of 1 file, it takes a few seconds to open and close the excel file (located on a network drive). which means it will take a fair bit of time to cycle through 97 excel files. Is there like any searching algorithm to speed up the process?
using ajax/javascrtipt, how to browse for a folder and get *.xml files in the given folder path.??

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have written a custom slideshow script which gets the images from an array... The script will change the src of a img, which is a fullscreen background. Now here's the problem, I've been trying to write a function where can define a folder "gallery est", and then get all image files in that folder and repopulate the slideshow array. So, is there a way to scan folders? I've searched around and found some solutions where PHP is used, but i really want to keep this pure js, if possible (?)

This code works fine on any folder but the TIF. For some reason the atEnd() statements always defaults to true and no files are deleted in the folder.
The peculiarity of this issue is that the files/subfolders cannot be seen through the windows explorer either. I can only access/delete them through a command shell. Code:

View 4 Replies View RelatedOriginally I had the following code. What it does is for a user to type the folder name of their choice and then after clicking submit a window will pop open and they will be taken to "C:folder" (assuming the user typed "folder" and such a folder existed). Here is the code in case I wasn't clear.

I'm trying to create a function to load a js file and instance a object.

I'm creating the files with the same name as the object. I'm trying to load a file/object name Manager. It's loading the js file, but it says that the object does not exits.
What's the best way to load a js file and create the instance of the object dynamically?
I want to create an associative array dynamically pulling the index values from an array (propertyArray); Associative array is created inside create function and then returned. But after it is returned, I cant use index names to retrieve values. It returns undefined as below code shows.
Code JavaScript:
var propertyArray=["a","b","c"];
function create(){
var array=[];

What I need to do is load wav files into an array and simply have these play from the array onto a page when it loads. I have an image slide show and I want to have a sound effect play over it and then when the image changes another wav will play but first just want to have say 5 wav files play in order from the array.
I have the following
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
var aySound = new Array();
aySound[0] = "1.wav";
aySound[1] = "2.wav";
I was assigned to find out how to do this for my work. We were hoping for a javascript (but it could be PHP or other comparable format). Instead of the search function searching the website, we would like it to search a small database full of information.
I have been reading for days now and have just gotten more confused. One thing I read (hopefully it was true) is that you can save a database as an HTML, then convert HTML to .JS which javascript will run.
I am working on JS navigation for my web page. Contents of 3 subpages
are located in the array as shown below. When certain key is pressed on
the page, div is filled with data taken from one of the array rows.
***
var content=new Array()
content[1]='<p>some text</p>'
content[2]='<p>some other text</p>'
content[3]='<p>yet another text</p>'
***
The question is: is it possible in some simple way to put the data from
those 3 rows into 3 separate files and make the JS code to take the data
from those files? (I want to have 3 files with plain HTML) If so, please
show me some example how to do that. Or give me some address where I can
read about it, please. I have been using Google for several hours -
unfortunately without any luck.
In general - here is what I would like to do:
***
var content=new Array()
content[1]=[contents of Ƈ.html' file]
content[2]=[contents of ƈ.html' file]
content[3]=[contents of Ɖ.html' file]
***
How can I put the above into JS code?
I have never done this before and I need some help. Can someone tell me how can I create a search engine within my website to search through the text on a certain page? This is the site I am talking about:http://www.21stcenturyworld.com/community.html

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial for creating a site-level
search applet? I am trying to create a virtual catalog of sorts, and
I would like to be able to search the catalog and have the results
displayed on the same page with one column text and an image of the
product. I've seen several tutorials that create site-level searches
that will bring back a search results page with options to choose
from. I am looking to create a search that does not bring back this
"results" page, but displays an image of the product instead. Given
the nature of the products, search results will only bring back one
specific item, and so, I would like to skip the "results" page
altogether. Any thoughts?
i have a implementation where i need to perform a search and replace. i will try to explain to the best of my ability. i have a variable, var a = "THIS IS SOME SOME TEXT";
then i have another array variable, var b = new Array(); which contains elements in key=value format eg. SOME=NEWSOME so what i need to do is, i need to loop through this array and if SOME exists in var a, then i need to replace it with NEWSOME. so for each value before =, if it exists in var a replace it with whats after =. and replace only once, so if SOME exists multiple times just replace the first occurence.
so essentially my final string would be, THIS IS NEWSOME SOME TEXT.
I have an javascript array and i want to search for an element inside the array and then delete that value from the array . How can i do that? I can use splice to remove an element based on index but how can i search and find the index?
I used array.indexOf('str') but it worked only on firefox but not IE..
