View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to make a page that will make a list of all the files in its folder and display the names of the files on the page. It needs to be able to work offline.
I know how to do this with php server side code, but this needs to be able to run on a memory stick. Is Javascript the best way to do this?
A script to read the current roots directory or filenames-list into a Javascript array?
Some say it is only possible by calling a JAVA applet method and returning the array as a public variable for Javascript to use...if so, has anyone done it and can provide a sample?
I am only trying to read directories & image files offline, on the current root level or perhaps up a folder, so I hope there are no security access issues to deal with.
Anyone have a link or search term for a way to allow the user to upload a list of file names to a web form? I do not need the actual files, just the file names -- name only or full path, doesn't matter. I can live with either just pointing to a directory and grabbing every file name in it, or requiring the user to select all the desired files from within a directory list. (My guess is that the JavaScript sandbox for a web form won't allow this, but I figured I'd check with you experts before looking into other possibilities, e.g. Java applet, etc.) I'm already using the JQuery library for some other stuff, in case there's something I should be looking for there or one of its plug-ins.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThere is a slideshow on my website that reads in the address of local images and puts them in a slideshow rotation to be displayed on the page. I currently have to "hard code" the addresses in, similar to the JavaScript below:
However, I want to be able to place images in the Images directory without having to make sure the files are named the same as in the code. I would like JavaScript to go out to a local directory, see what's in there, grab anything in jpeg format (regardless of the name), and put it in the slideshow rotation.
I am not sure this is possible but it seems like it should be. I want to populate a javascript array with all the image files in a dorectory. I want this to be dynamic so that when I add an image to the directory it get included in the array.
Any ideas? I am sure there are many javascript wizards out there who can point me in the right direction.
Looking for a little bit of help. I created a simple script a while back in PHP which reads all the images from a directory and assigns them to an array (reading for loading into a document). Would I be able to do this in JavaScript or does it not have these kind of privileges?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the ajax load() method to load a file from a parent directory, e.g.
$("#divTests").load("../tests.htm");
But that doesn't work. I can load a simple html file from the same directory as my html file or a descendant directory, but not an ancestor directory. Nor can I load from an external server.
Is that just the way it is, or is their a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?

I'm doing my testing on my PC and I'm not running a server (apache or otherwise). Just using it as a simple client. Is that possibly the problem? Or is there something else I'm missing? If that is the problem, is there a workaround?
I'm working on a project for work and I'm having some issue trying to distribute to program the smoothes as possible, on idea I had was using Javascript, Im kind of new at this so ill explain to you what Im hoping to do. Basically Im looking for a onload= function when the .hta opens it would get a file from lets say G:\path\path1\path2\file.hta to C:\path\path1\folder So it would take the file and copy past it in another folder from a different directory. Can any one let me know , how to load XML file with java script.
View 1 Replies View RelatedConsider the following code as seen in the Scriptaculous library:
Code:
require: function(libraryName) {
// inserting via DOM fails in Safari 2.0, so brute force approach
document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'+libraryName+'"></script>');
}
This will make the browser load more libraries, which is cool.
However, when using Content-Type application/xhtml+xml, Firefox gives an error in the JS Console:
Code:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Object cannot be created in this context" code: "9" nsresult: "0x80530009 (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_SUPPORTED_ERR)" location: "http://localhost/script/scriptaculous/scriptaculous.js Line: 26"]
It seems that XHTML 1.1 documents sent with the correct application/xhtml+xml cause Firefox not to like document.write(). Fair enough
How can I change the above code to inser the script through DOM? Would that be something like:
document.createElement('javascript');
What I need to do is load wav files into an array and simply have these play from the array onto a page when it loads. I have an image slide show and I want to have a sound effect play over it and then when the image changes another wav will play but first just want to have say 5 wav files play in order from the array.
I have the following
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
var aySound = new Array();
aySound[0] = "1.wav";
aySound[1] = "2.wav";
i have a function to load text files.
function load(n){textfile=n;if(n.indexOf("#")!=-1){theleft=n.indexOf("#")+1;textfile=(n.substring(theleft))}
document.mycall.load(textfile+'.txt');origString=textfile;
and it only loads a files with .txt extensions. how to change this function to load files with .doc and .nfo extensions also.

I am working on JS navigation for my web page. Contents of 3 subpages
are located in the array as shown below. When certain key is pressed on
the page, div is filled with data taken from one of the array rows.
***
var content=new Array()
content[1]='<p>some text</p>'
content[2]='<p>some other text</p>'
content[3]='<p>yet another text</p>'

The question is: is it possible in some simple way to put the data from
those 3 rows into 3 separate files and make the JS code to take the data
from those files? (I want to have 3 files with plain HTML) If so, please
show me some example how to do that. Or give me some address where I can
read about it, please. I have been using Google for several hours -
unfortunately without any luck.
In general - here is what I would like to do:
***
var content=new Array()
content[1]=[contents of Ƈ.html' file]
content[2]=[contents of ƈ.html' file]
content[3]=[contents of Ɖ.html' file]
***
How can I put the above into JS code?
1. I create an HTML document that validates at w3c
2. I use:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"
src="dashboard.js" ></script>
3. <body onload="something_in_dashboard_js()">
4. In Firefox, it works beautifully ( no shock )
5. In IE it does not ( no shock )
6. If i put the function in inline <scripttags in my HTML, the JS
runs fine (no syntax error).
I am using a 3 column layout. One column contains links and 2 columns contain content. I need to load the content to 2 Divs in one click. When a link is clicked it should load some file in column 2 and another file in column 3.
As of now I am loading only one div using jquery load function. But I need to load 2 divs. Below is the code Ib am using.
Or is there any other option to load 2 external files in 2 different div in one click
Example

<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){

This is a weird idea I have- i will try to explain it all (forgive me if i do not).
i'm using xml to create dynamic content on the site i'm building for myself.
now, i know there is a way to randomly load xml content using php-
but i have zero experience with php (though i not afraid to learn it, if it is the only way to do this).
here's what i want to do:
i have (let's say) 4 "announcement" areas on a page, in addition to a "random info" bar off to the side. in each of these, i want to have randomly loaded xml content each time the page is refreshed/viewed.
so if i have a "recent site news" section on the page, i would have a folder for "some code" to look in to pull out an xml file to display. etc etc.
basically, i'm wondering if there is a java way to do this (perhaps similar to the choosePic function?). it doesn't have to load a different xml file each time the page is refreshed either- if there's a way to pick a set number of items from any xml file i specify- that would be ok too.
I'm trying to create a function to load a js file and instance a object.
I'm trying something like this:
Code:
function Load(element)
{
var e = document.createElement("script");
e.type = "text/javascript";
[Code]....
I'm creating the files with the same name as the object. I'm trying to load a file/object name Manager. It's loading the js file, but it says that the object does not exits.
What's the best way to load a js file and create the instance of the object dynamically?
This script fails to load any of the css files it refers to and I have no idea why... [code]...

I'm trying to load some javascript files via ajax, I can't get it to catch 404 errors. I've tried searching, but everything I've found says that I should check the status on the request object to catch it but it's not even getting that far.
I've tried:
I would try $.getScript, but that appears to have no way of handling errors. I've even tried just doing a console.info("test") -- it doesn't even do that. Firebug shows a 404 error (obviously) but the error doesn't seem to be being caught? I'm loading jquery through the google api, version 1.3.2.
