Parallel Array Multiple Search - Mandatory And Optional
Sep 18, 2010
I have 4 arrays that all contain data linked by the index. I have 3 drop down boxes on a web page that give the user 3 ways to search for data. The top one is mandatory the other two are optional. I've managed to create the code to search using the mandatory box but cant figure out how to expand the search.
Here is the function that deals with the search data:
function findFlights(){
var yourAirline = readTheAirline();
var result = 'Here are your flights <BR>';
var choose = 'Choose your destination';
for (var index = 0; index < flightTimes.length; index++){
var flight = flightDestinations[index];
var airline = flightOperators[index];
if (yourDestination == flight){
var b = flightTimes[index];
var c = flightDestinations[index];
var d = flightOperators[index];
var e = flightFares[index];
var message = b + ' to ' + c + ' operated by ' + d + '. £' + e + '.';
result = result + message + '<BR>';
}if (yourDestination == choose){
result = 'Please choose a destination city from the destination menu and then click Find flights again.';
}}displayMessage(result);}

I'm using an array to store map features (name, lat, lon, caption,
etc), from which the user can then select an individual feature. The
problem is that when thousands of features are stored in the array,
looping over the entire array looking for a match is SLOW.
So I'm running a hash in parallel, where every time a feature is
pushed onto the array it's name is also added to the hash as an
identical key value pair. I then check if the key is defined in the
hash, and if it is, I want to use that feature's values from the
array. Problem is, I don't know the index number in the array for this
feature. Is there a way to look this up without looping over it, by
matching values between the array and hash? Code:

I am working on a very simple code to determine the highest value from an array and also use parallel arrays.
The problem I am having is, when I try to invoke the parallel array namesArray it returns undefined.
I have coded the function so it can be used to find the highest value in more arrays as this is only the beginning of my code. Im not sure if this is what is causing the problems but I have a feeling it is code...

After some earlier advice I have realised that I was trying to find the highest vale in an array not the index of that value. I have changed my code accordingly but I still have something wrong with it. It still returns undefined.
I need to have the function findHighValueIndex(anArray) as I will be adding more arrays later.

I'm trying to build a page that has multiple ajax calls on it. When you do it the old-fashioned way with XmlHttpRequest, you'd create a new xhr object for every call so that they execute simultaneously. If I try to do this in jquery it will only execute a call when the previous one has completed. This makes the page load time completely unacceptable. How to improve the performance?

I have a website that I'm designing where I have the need to search multiple sites at specific times. By this I mean that In some cases, we would want to search only the internet using google, or only search the site that I've created (which currently uses the jse_search.js solution), or only our company's website.
I currently have four different search boxes that will search either the internet, the internal site, a separate internal site, or a third-party website, which all working fine. The problem is that the search boxes take up quite a bit of space, and the layout is becoming cumbersome. Is there a way in Javascript I could use a single search box and a drop-down list to select which method to use? The code I'm currently using is below. With the exception of the Google search function, I've modified some of the site names to general site names and paths to preserve the company's anonymity:
Code in the <head> tag:
<script language="JavaScript1.3" type="text/javascript" src="jse_form.js">
</script>
Code in the <body> tag:
<!--Begin Internal Site Search 1!-->

I would like to passwith the help of javascript empty non-mandatory fields to my perl script (and replace them with a custom value). The form mailer script only passes the mandatory fields. When non mandatory fields are filled , these are added to the list of passed field values, otherwise the list includes only the mandatory ones. I'd like to pass all values even the empty ones so that the person receiving the submitted data via email can easily export them to a database via a macro written by somebody else. Another requirement from client: The predefined values must not show up in the form fields when loading the page with the form.
How can I check for empty values as well as for tabs or blank spaces and replace each of these fields with a value = "not available"? I tried to do solve this for empty fields (no tabs, no blank spaces) but my solution does not work properly. It requires me to click the submit button 3 times before the form is submitted (because with every click the "not available" value is added in each empty field.

I have the following array in a chatbot
Code:
Sites=new Array("alcatraz,California in the USA","eiffel tower,Paris in France","empire state building,New York in the USA");
This piece of code searches the first part of the array and triggers the second part as a response. That all works fine. However, could it be rewritten in a way to eliminate the bailout response of "I don't know." to where it just skips over it if no match is found.I have more If statements further down the script that I want to use instead of the one bailout response. If nothing matches I have one big catchall to respond back with at the very end.
Code:
if (input.search("where is")!= -1)
{document.result.result.value = "I don't know.";
for (i=0; i<Sites.length; i++) {

i have a implementation where i need to perform a search and replace. i will try to explain to the best of my ability. i have a variable, var a = "THIS IS SOME SOME TEXT";
then i have another array variable, var b = new Array(); which contains elements in key=value format eg. SOME=NEWSOME so what i need to do is, i need to loop through this array and if SOME exists in var a, then i need to replace it with NEWSOME. so for each value before =, if it exists in var a replace it with whats after =. and replace only once, so if SOME exists multiple times just replace the first occurence.
so essentially my final string would be, THIS IS NEWSOME SOME TEXT.

I have an array in which each element is a long string of various values separated by a particular character.I want to be able to search the array using the first value of each element to get the index.I cannot see how to do this so I have started to create a function for this.I want to take the original array, split out the value into another array and search the new array.I can then use the index returned to retrieve the full string from the original array.However I am having a problem when trying to set the new array and I do not know enough JS to understand what is going wrong.Here is the code:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var test= new array();[code].......
I am getting the correct result in "title".I have tried setting "test[0]=title;" with an if on the first pass and then using ".push" but to no good effect.if there is a better way to achieve my objective or is this a reasonable solution

I'm writing a piece of JS code that returns a result of true if the pattern appears in string as a substring (case sensitive) but would like to extend its functionality to returns true if all the individual characters of pattern appear in string (regardless of order).
For example:This is what the program currently does:
match1("adipisci","pis") returns true
Whereas I would now like it to do this:
match1("adipisci","sciip") returns true
match2("adipisci","sciipx") returns false because x does not exist in variable
match3["adipisci","adipisci"] returns true in array 1 and 2 if "sciip" is searched
match4["adipisci","adipiscix"] returns false in array 1 and true in array 2 if "sciipx" is searched
I am having difficulty implementing this into my code... this is what I've done so far:
var pages=[
"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.",
"Nulla imperdiet laoreet neque.",

In a string (that contain the Flash version installed), I want to replace:
all "," by "."
"win" by <nothing>
all spaces by <nothing>
So far I do it this way:
strFlashVer = strFlashVer.replace(/,/g, '.');
strFlashVer = strFlashVer.replace('win', '');
strFlashVer = strFlashVer.replace(/ /g, '');
but I'm sure theres better way (I'm not really good with reg exp).

How would you create a text field that allows users to select different search engines, and then search their keyword. Essentially what I'm looking for is a something similar to the default multiple search field that you see in Firefox and Safari.At this point in time I have the multiple search feature implemented. But all I really have is a <select> next to a <input>. What I want is something that combines the two. Basically I want the look and feel of Firefox/Safari default multiple search field.

I'm wondering if the <input type="search" /> has the capability of adding search engines to the end of the drop down list. In Safari if you click on the magnifying glass on the search box, you'll see search engines at the very bottom. I'm wondering if I can do that to my webpage using <input type="search" />, but having my own search engines specified.

how to accomplish this. In my website, I would like the user to input text into a single or multiple textbox(es) and then have the contents of the textbox(es) stored to either a variable or an array. Then I would like to have that variable/array compared to other arrays. Basically, the user is searching for items in a database. The user can search for as many or as little items as they want. Then the item(s) will be compared to multiple arrays to find out if what the user wants is in the database.
So for example, let's say the user is searching for recipes that have all or part of these ingredients: chicken, broccoli, lemon, honey. So, there would have been a total of 4 textboxes...one for each ingredient. These ingredients are stored to an array..lets call it ingredient(). In the database of recipes, each recipe has its own array which includes the ingredients needed to make the recipe, we'll call them tag1(), tag2(), and tag3(). Now, I want the array, ingredient(), to be compared to each of the "tag" arrays to see if any of the "tag" arrays include exactly match the ingredient() tag in part or in whole. Is this possible?

I'm trying to debug my expression that matches an alphanumeric with any
number of dashes (including none), except at the ends and obviously
disallowing two or more consecutive dashes.
Here it is: /w+(-?w+)*/
Test cases that I expect to pass are failing:
"01234abcdef" true
"0123-412-8370" false (should've been "true")
"asdkfjakfj" true
"0-1" false (should've been "true")
"-" false
"--" false
"-ABC123" false
"00230-" false
"ABC-123" false (should've been "true")
"1-" false
"111223333" true
Would anyone lend a hand?

I'm using quick search plugin (URL...) in filtering rows in a group of tables.The problem is that the old vesion of Quick search may act on multiple tables as long they have the same table_id while the new vesion acts on the first table only.
1-the number of tables is very large (in some pages may be 500 tables).
2-the action of Quick search is applied automaticaly as the user type any text in the input text box. so i don't know any way to make a loop to call the function once for each table.
