AttachEvent - Send Data Back To The Parent Page To Create New Table Rows
Jan 13, 2009
A page I'm working on lets users open a new window, which in turn lets them send data back to the parent page to create new table rows, cells, links, etc. One of the links created is "delete", so it should delete the row that the delete link belongs to when clicked on. I can do this no problem in ff using the setAttribute('onclick',onClickEvent), but can't do this in IE. I'll show some code to make this easier to understand....

I have some JQuery that makes an Ajax call and then adds some rows to an existing table.
function
LoadDestinationTable() {
$("#destinationTable tr:gt(0)"[code]...
The problem is that the only place where the click event fires is on the rows that were added when the page was 1st rendered – the th, for example.I also tried adding an onclick event handler to the input button’s creation – that also does not fire.

I'm spawning a child window from a parent. In the child I'm dynamically building a table. When I click "finished" I want the entire table to go back to the parent and replace the original table "shell" (an empty <table> </table> tag-pair).
Note: The table ID is the same at the parent and child. This allows the replacement to work repeatedly. The child window closes but I don't see the table on the parent.
I get the feeling I'm mixing DHTML and DOM (ie "window.opener....") and .. well, I don't know what to think.
Is it OK to nest DOM functions as shown in the code?
I've tried a couple of different things - I'd like to use "replaceNode", but the syntax is not clear in the reference I have.
[b]The problem{/b]
Below is the function triggered by the child window "finished" button's onclick event.
I suspect the variable assignment is wrong as an alert box immediately after it (removed in this sample) did not show up.
function finished() {
var oldReport = window.opener.document.getElementbyId('DBReportsTable');
oldReport.firstChild.removeNode(true); // the <tbody>
oldReport.appendChild(document.getElementById('DBReportsTable').firstChild);
window.close();
return true;
} // finished()

I know I need to appendChild node somewhere but i can not figure out where to. So far i have appendChild at the table head which works to an extent. How can I make it so the new row is added above the table header but in it's own formatted little cell. Also how would you insert the row below the header but at the top of the other rows?
I have managed to move the inserted row to the top above the header but it doesn't look terribly good.
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
[Code].....
To allow for backward compatibility with the older Simple Table Model, if no TBODY structures exist in a table, the entire set of row groupings [TR] are assumed to be a single TBODY.
</body>
</html>

I am really struggling with a little bit of javascript I am working on. I know the solution with a bit of javascript is simple but unfortunately I am no javascript wizard.I have a form that will initially contain 1 table row with 3 form elements (2 text boxes and one dropdown select). The form tags are wrapped around the table. What I want to do is use a form button to add new rows on demand. So if the button (labeled with a +) was clicked a new row would be added with the same 3 form elements listed above but with a new name for the element (1,2,3 so on..). Each time the + was clicked a new row would appear. I know this is probably simple but just can't seem to find any examples anywhere on this entire world wide web

I'm trying to create dynamic rows in the existing table.
<html>
<head>
<script language="JavaScript">
[code]....
In the above code, i am able to create dynamic row only after the last row of the existing table. i.e( I am able to add rows after row2_column1 ,row2_column2).Hence on click of the "create new UPI" button only one row will be created.
Is it possible to create a new row after each existing row? (i.e. a new row after row1_column1,row1_column1 and a new row after row2_column1 ,row2_column2). What i exactly i need is to find the total number of the existing rows and on click of the button a new row should be created after each existing row.

I have an webbpage, and in the middle of it there is an iframe to a php site. So i have used this code, so after some seconds the iframe will send the guest to another page. <meta http-equiv="refresh" traget="_top" content="5 url=http://mypage.com"/> But the thing is that i want the WHOLE page to reload, and go to that page after 5 seconds (we can say). With that code, only the iframe are going to another page. Is it possible to make the whole page send the user after some seconds, to another page and not only the iframe?

I'm trying to implement is a table with editable rows and columns that will feed back into a database. If I could do it with AJAX that would be great too, but I'm not too familiar with javascript. I don't need the code, I need more of an idea. The HTML Table is currently a recreation of the MySQL table minus a few columns. Its all in text, but if I could make the text editable, or better yet, make the text turn into input boxes it would be really cool. I'm not really sure what kind of methods and properties I would need, or quite how to put it all together. What do you think is the best way to go about the entire project?

I have a need to select all table rows in the outer table of a cascading table structure, that is a table with contained tables. I tried to use the "Context" section of jQuery, but the table rows of the sub tables are being selected as well.

I'm trying to create a page that takes data and turns it into images - I'm starting very simply. For each row of text, I first:
if(j.match(/[a-z]+_\d+/)){
colorval='red';
} else {
colorval='blue';
}
then I add a sequence of numbers for positioning to an object called pixs (with a numerical index as well that may or may not be useful):
var xpos = startwidth+d_num;
var ypos= startheight+d_scroll;
pixs[num]= {};
pixs[num]['xpos']=xpos;
pixs[num]['ypos']=ypos;
pixs[num]['color']=colorval;
As I loop through my arrays of little pieces of data, all of this information is stocked into pixs - BUT then- I have to insert this information from pixs to a function, like:
$(container).fillRect(xpos,ypos, width, height, {color: color}) where width and height are each preset vars.
My challenges here are to 1) successfully loop through the pixs object. 2)Use jquery if possible (or if easier) to get these variable values into the function to evaluate. 3) Successfully '.fillRect' with each loop. 4) Use the append method (or something?! again, I am a n00b) to get all of these instances of fillRect onto the container in the html document (which appears to be set up and working with instances of fillRect not using variables as parameters)

1. How to send only MODIFIED fields back?
2. What's the max len of the data I can sent back using post method? Does it depend on browser?
