Rating Star Row - Refreshing Effect Not Working

Jul 22, 2009

Code:
<td>
<ul class="rating nostar" id="Torpedo">
<li class="one"><a href="javascript:RateItem('Torpedo', 1);" title="1 Star">1</a></li>
<li class="two"><a href="javascript:RateItem('Torpedo', 2);" title="2 Stars">2</a></li>
<li class="three"><a href="javascript:RateItem('Torpedo', 3);" title="3 Stars">3</a></li>
<li class="four"><a href="javascript:RateItem('Torpedo', 4);" title="4 Stars">4</a></li>
<li class="five"><a href="javascript:RateItem('Torpedo', 5);" title="5 Stars">5</a></li>
</ul>
</td>

This is a rating star row which is suppose to refresh without a browser refreshing. It is refreshing but is not CSS formatting to
Code:
<td><strong>Raiting:</strong></td>
<td>
<ul class="rated twostar" id="Torpedo">
<li class="one">1</li>
<li class="two">2</li>
<li class="three">3</li>
<li class="four">4</li>
<li class="five">5</li>
</ul>

I have to refresh the browser in order to
Code:
<td><strong>Raiting:</strong></td>
<td>
<ul class="rated twostar" id="Torpedo">
<li class="one">1</li>
<li class="two">2</li>
<li class="three">3</li>
<li class="four">4</li>
<li class="five">5</li>
</ul>
to appear..

It's the javascript working? This is the code before clicking on one of the star in the star row.
Code:
<style type="text/css">
<!--
.style1 {color: #FF3300}
.style2 {color: #FFFFFF}
.style3 {color: #000000}
-->
</style> .....

The javascript links that should do the refreshing automatically supposed to be the two below:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="scripts/prototype.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="scripts/rating.js"></script>
How can it be possible to auto refresh it?

I am trying to create a breadcrumb trail for a page on a site I am creating.

I have several divs - div1, div2, div3, div4 etc and I need to have the div title at the end. Here is my code, the problem I have is that var theTitle is returning null.

Code:

function breadcrumbs() {
var output = "<a href="/">Home</a>  >  ";
var output2 = " > ";

Adding The Fade-in Effect?

Feb 6, 2011

If you click the right-facing arrows along the right side you'll open a side-bar column, clicking a left-facing arrow will then close the side-bar.This functionality is "OK" at best. What I would like to see is clicking the right-facing arrow causes the current sidebar to fade-in, and simultaneously have the arrow flip to a left-facing icon; the idea being to add a toggle function to the arrows.The code I'm using at the moment is shown below, this string works for me because it only allows 1 sidebar container to be displayed at a time...

<script type="text/javascript">
lastone='empty';
function showIt(lyr)

Adding Fade Effect To Slideshow Script?

Jun 25, 2010

I'm trying to add a fade effect between slideshow transitions. The script I'm building from is the Rich HTML Slideshow script which appears below.

The slides that rotate are wrapped in <div> tags with a class of "dyncontent" and I've managed to make the slideshow transition just fine, but not with any kind of fade effect. It just "snaps" from one slide to the next.

<script type="text/javascript">
if (document.all || document.getElementById){ //if IE4 or NS6+
document.write('<style type="text/css">
')

Leaving A Trail On Screen

Dec 15, 2010

I'd like to make a game-like interactive animation with javascript. A car of some sort that will be able to move in all directions is something i have no troubles with. But on top of that i would like to add a trail that this "car" of mine would leave behind it.Keeping in mind that the car is able to move in all direction (by which i mean any angle, not just up-down-left-right), how would i make the parts of the screen that the car "ran over" to have a different color or something, and preferably leaving the option of calculating the surface area of the trail?

Submitting Data Without A Submit (NetFlix Star Ratings)

Mar 10, 2006

Does anyone know how Netflix manages its star rating system? The javascript
is either computer generated or obfusicated. It's more trouble to reverse
engineer than it's worth. I'm not very interested in their particular
solution for rating movies - I'm not in the business - but I'd like to know
the data transfer mechanism behind it.

It looks like they found a solid way of moving data between client and
server without getting the page redrawn. I found another script called
votio.php on the net. It does something similar but requires PHP (why?) to
create a XMLhttp stream. I'm not sure why it's server side. Maybe the
server has to create the stream object then pass it's handle on to the
client on the fly. Close?

I'm using IIS and msdn hints at some similar techniques.

The 10,000 mile view would still be helpful. What's this data transfer
thing called? Why isn't it used more? Why hasn't it replaced forms and
links? It seems incredibly useful and surprisingly stable (eg Netflix).

JQuery :: Star Rating: Set Value And Disable Based On Ajax Return Value?

Sep 22, 2011

I'm implementing theStar Ratingplugin. Star rating is called like this:

$(function(){
$('.stars').rating({
callback: function(value, link){
$.ajax({

[Code]....

After a star is clicked the form is submitted and processed. "rate.php" returns an integer from 1 to 5 with the new average rating. So far so good, but I'd like to update the Star radios with the new value and disable them after the form has been processed.

It seemed easy enough:

$('.stars').rating('select', data);
$('.stars').rating('disable');

JQuery :: Star-rating Plugin Callback Function Throwing Error?

I'm using this star-rating plugin [URL] and the call back function provided to allow for submission of forms onclick of rating star.

Code:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('form.entry_rating').rating( {
callback:function(value, link) {
alert(value);

});
});

However, once the callback is included I get an error I've been trying to track down for the past day and a half. In IE the error thrown is "Object doesn't support this property or method" on Line 100 character 4. In my JS debugger the plugin breaks on line 99

I'm kinda stuck with jQuery. I generally write code in PHP and do simple stuff with Javascript. But I need to make an effect on a module of my page.

Is this even possible? I don't want/can't preload random content and have it hidden. I could probably do this the simple way with js. Emptying the old content and replacing it with the new random content but I need the animation. I'll keep "decoding" the documentation while waiting for a response.

Page Slide Effect With Stationary Menu?

Oct 18, 2011

I was wondering if jQuery or mootools has a set of scripts that creates a page slide effect with a stationary menu? What I mean is instead of loading a page when you click a link, all pages of the website are loaded at first, and then when a link is clicked, the corresponding page slides onto the screen. The navigation menu remains unchanged (except for dropdown menus) throughout everything. This is a perfect example of what I'm looking for: [URL] I tried to search for this but didn't come up with too many great results, and I searched the jQuery documentation and wasn't able to find a slider feature.

JQuery :: How To Implement Page Curl Effect On Storefront

I'm relatively new to jquery, and I'm attempting to implement a "Page Curl" effect (by Elliot Kember) on my BigCommerce storefront. Here is the plugin: [URL].
Here is my storefront: [URL]

I've got the jquery referenced in my HTMLHead.html page, and my scripts are all uploaded to my folder "/turn" on my site. However, I can't seem to find the right page for placement of my 'call function':
$(document).ready(function(){
$( '#target' ).fold();
});
And the 'element';

Am I placing these on the correct pages for a proper 'call' of the scripts? There are numerous pages referenced that make-up the HTMLHead.html page, and I'm finding a hard time trying to place the jquery plugin on the right pages.

Effect Of Js On Onload() Event - Enabling Always Slows Down The Page

Feb 14, 2010

I've been doing some research on javascript's impact on the time it takes for a page to load, as defined by firebug's "Net" tab's "onload" demarcation (the red line). It seems that aside from dynamic data that's not part of the HTML, enabling javascript always slows down the page. I've checked wikipedia, yahoo, digg, even google; a javascript-enabled loading of each site shows a later onload() event compared to loading the same site without javascript enabled. My question: Can anyone think of a site that loads faster with javascript than it does without javascript?
