2 Selection Lists In A Web Form
Jul 20, 2005
I found a web page with 2 selection lists in a form. The contents of
the second selection list are updated based on the entry in the first
selection list. For example:
if the first selection list has all the states in the USA, the second
list will display all the major cities in the selected state.

Am having difficulty creating a dynamic <select> element using direct
assignment to the element's option array (ie. someElement.option[i]=new
Option(someText, someValue);)
that will work on Palm devices runing Blazer 3.0 or Web Browser 2.0.
The browsers SEEM to be JavaScript1.1+ capable and the script that I
have works on every desktop-based browser, but not the PDA ones....
Any advice? Or is this a known deficiency?

Dependable dropdown lists (4 level)
1 Level dropdown list
2 Level dropdown list
3 Level dropdown list
4 Level dropdown list
Every dropdown list is depends on another dropdown list
For example if I select a value from 1 dropdown list then 2 dropdown list will appear. And then I select a value from 2 dropdown list then 3 dropdown list will appear. And if I select a value from 3 dropdown list then 4 dropdown list. Multiple selection will be enable. It means every dropdown list may have hundreds of values. Thus, In this situation of multiple selection of values I analyze that, use of dropdown isn't suitable because if a dropdown value has 500 related values then these 500 values disturb the page design.

<script type="text/javascript">
function changeinput(){
if(document.getElementById(MERGE2).value=checked){
document.getElementById("newsletteru").value = "sadfjflaskfj";
document.getElementById("newsletterid").value = "345345";
}
[Code]...
This is a form to subscribe people to a newsletter on Mailchimp. There are two lists: community, student. I am trying to separate people into one or the other based on the checkbox input, "Check if you are a student." To do this, on submit, I need the two hidden inputs, "u" and "id," to be set differently depending on whether the checkbox is checked. The error right now I'm getting is that it's not being linked to a mailing list. Most likely "u" and "id" are not being set properly. The javascript is fairly short, and I'm wondering if its setting the values correctly.

I've been struggling trying to get a small order form to work the way I want it to. Here is a link to the live page: [URL] And here is the code in question:
[Code]...
I have two questions...
Question 1 How can I make this piece of script act a little smarter. Look at the order form, I'm catering for up to 4 people and providing lunch for them. If they select 3 people and the spaghetti bol for lunch, it's only adding $10 where it should be adding $30. Obviously this is simple multiplication but since the values in my form are prices it makes it a little tricky. I'm guessing an onselect on the first part of the form which changes the pricing of the other items would be the way to go, but how do I do this?
Question 2 The "Total Price" is placed before the <form> tag by the script. This is ok but it's not where I want it. How can I position this text elsewhere in the document?

How does one cause a form element to appear ONLY if a certain form selection is made before it?
That is for example say there is a form element of type Radio called "format" so only if they select format value = normal then the form input fields called URL and Name are to appear as the next choices otherwise form input field Group and checklist Places are to appear as the next choices.

I have a form with a question that has about 15 options. The user selects one or more options by entering a percentage in the box next to the option.Entering any percentage in a box means that option has been selected.Here's where (I think) I need some javascript: The total of the percentages a user enters across all options has to total 100%.
Would like to do this client-side with an alert, as opposed to server-side. The form is complicated and long. Ideally, the user should not be able to proceed to the next question unless the percentage totals 100. But I'd settle for validating it on clicking the submit button.

I'm doing kind of a form that at the end you can pay thru paypal. I have like a table made of anchor tags <a> and each one is styled as a table cell. What I need to do is to have the ability of multiple select this links. It would be: the user select one or more links and then a variable would carry these links name so he could pay with paypal.

I'm encountering errors with a form I have created. I feel confident that the issue is with my JS validation form because when I allow the form to submit without validating any of the fields, my php processor correctly uploads all the content into my database (but, I will need the form validation to prevent the user from skipping fields).
The issue (I believe) is with IE. In IE, both drop-downs seem to populate correctly but when I submit the form, I get a prompt to make a selection for the first drop-down menu.
The form does submit properly in FireFox and Safari but with some testing I noticed that I was getting a prompt to make a selection in the first drop-down in instances where a selection was already made but I just had not yet populated the second country/state drop-down.
Still, in Firefox and Safari, the form does pass validation upon submit.. So, I am hoping it's just IE specific issue.
I'm thinking the issue is with IE not recognizing my selection. The form had a drop-down menu where the user selects a letter, then that selection triggers (in JS using a function to process the selection) another drop-down to populate with all the countries or states that begin with the letter from the first selection.
Here is the code from my form:
<p><span class="title">Sign Up</span></p>
<br />
<form id = "signupForm" action="signup_process.php" method = "post" onsubmit="return validateSignupForm();">
[Code].....
what could be going on in IE that is not allowing the form to pass JS validation..

I am working on inserting a new selection into a form which uses Javascript to calculate totals. Here is the code for the top of the page:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function MM_findObj(n, d) { //v4.01
var p,i,x; if(!d) d=document; if((p=n.indexOf("?"))>0&&parent.frames.length) {
d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document; n=n.substring(0,p);}
if(!(x=d[n])&&d.all) x=d.all[n]; for (i=0;!x&&i<d.forms.length;i++) x=d.forms[i][n];
for(i=0;!x&&d.layers&&i<d.layers.length;i++) x=MM_findObj(n,d.layers[i].document);
if(!x && d.getElementById) x=d.getElementById(n); return x;
}function KW_getVal(o){ //v1.2 .....
Here is the code contained within the form:
Code:
<tr><td><span class="item_title"Logo Sticker</span> (min. order 100) <img src="images/0_pic.gif" border="0" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('images/orderform/ogo_sticker.gif','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=400,height=550')" /> </td>
<td width="178">$4.00<br />per 100</td>
<td ><select name="Logo_Decals_MEMB_A0_006" id="cpa_logo_stickers" onchange="Calc(this.form);">
<option value="0"> </option>
<option value="100">100</option> .....
I know that this is not the proper code, it is copied from another form that uses a different Javascript. What code would I need to insert to make it work here?
I have a sample of working code that is used for an item which costs $1.00 and has no drop down selector:
Code:
<tr>
<td><span class="item_title-blue">Envelope - Individual</span> <img src="images/0_pic.gif" alt="Click to See Picture of Item" border="0" onclick="MM_openBrWindow('images/orderform/env.jpg','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=408,height=547')" /></td>
<td align="center" valign="middle">$1.00 </td>
<td align="center" ><p>
<input name="Envelope" type="text" id="FormsEditField224" onchange="KW_calcForm('Envelope Total',100,2,'#Envelope','*','1')" value="" size="4" maxlength="4" />
<label><div align="left">
</label></td><td align="center"><p>
<input id="FormsEditField225" type="text" name="Envelope Total" value="" size="9" maxlength="10" onfocus="this.blur()"/>
</p></td></tr><tr>
The above code does run correctly, I just need it to be for a 4.00 per 100 drop down list as demonstrated before.

I want to use a drop-down menu selection option to submit a form. But the form's contents change depending on the option. This is the basic form:
<FORM ID="go1" METHOD="POST" TARGET="_self">
<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME=UserID VALUE="<%UserID%>">
<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME=Password VALUE="<%Password%>">
<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME=SubUnitID VALUE="4266">
<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME=PageID VALUE="1">
<INPUT TYPE="IMAGE" class="hand" border="0" src="/images/my.gif" width="45" height="26" vspace="5">
</FORM>
At the moment, it's an image which gets clicked on but it needs to be the option chosen. I think I can do that with:
function gotoPage(s){
var v = s.selectedIndex;
var select = document.forms.form.elements.input; // selects question
if (v == 1){...}
if (v == 2){...} etc.
However, as I said, the form's contents must change depending on the option chosen: The form's values which change are:
<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME=SubUnitID VALUE="4266">
<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME=PageID VALUE="1">

I want to make a search form where inputs only appear if a certain selection has been made. For example the user selects "Green" then the input "X" appears, and if the user clicks "Black" then input "Y" appears. How can this be done? If so, can someone give me a basic example in code that I can use to copy off?

I have a form with two select fields (facility[] and lightbox[]), along with a few other text inputs. Both of the select fields allow the user to select multiple options. This is fine for our needs, as long as the user only selects fields from within one select box. As soon as the user decides to make a selection from the other select field, I'd like to permit that, but clear all other selections from the first field.

I'm working on a search filter trying to get a form to update itself depending on what options have been checked from a selection of checkboxes. i.e. selecting one checkbox can bring up other checkboxes. It's just posting the form to update_filter.php and putting the updated form into searchNavigation div.
$(document).ready(function(e){
$("input[type='checkbox']").change(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
update_filter();
[Code]....
This works for the first checkbox that is checked, but after that nothing.
Is it something to do with the fact that the form is not the same form that it was before the checkbox was checked if that makes sense? or shouldn't that make any difference?

I'm trying to write a progressively enhanced web application. I have an index page and a form with some select boxes and some radio buttons on a different php page. Before enhancement occurs, the form is accessible via regular links and everything works as expected. No issues.
In the enhanced version of the application, the form is AJAXed into the index page. When this occurs, the select boxes in the form work perfectly. The radio buttons are initially unchecked and I can check one option as usual. However, once one is checked, clicking the other radio options does nothing. I am unable to check a different option.
Anybody got a clue what the problem is?
Using Chrome by the way. Firefox is the same as Chrome. In IE I can't even check a radio button the first time.
Here's the code that's ajaxed in:
<label>First Time Buyer Status
<!--These values can't be 1/0 because 0 stands for not set-->
<input type="radio" name="FTB" id="FTBYes" value="1" <?php $M->checkFTBValue(1); ?> title=""/>First Time Buyer
[Code].....
The PHP script you see there checks if the value on the server matches the value of the radio button and echo's checked="checked" if true. I thought this could be causing the problem initially but the exact same code is used in the non-enhanced version and it works fine. I tried commenting it out anyway but it makes no difference.
The only thing I can think of is that some javascript is preventing me from selecting a different radio option. That would explain why it works ok in the non-enhanced version because there is no JS there. I can't find anything that I've written that might cause this effect I'm using jQuerys form plugin on my pages. I'm going to try writing it out and see if that fixes anything.
In the mean time, is there a way I can check if any JS functions when I click on the radio button?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, there's so many different languages involved, I hadn't a clue where to put it.
