Load A Different Index.html Page For Each Different Screen Size?
May 13, 2011
I am trying to load a different index.html page for each different screen size that the browser has. So the page looks best at different resolutions.I am not really able to test it since I haven't finished building all the different resolution index pages yet. I am just wondering if anyone sees any glaring errors in my coding.This is my script:
<script src="javascript/stndlibrary.js">
var screendim=getWindowSize();
var screenwidth=screendim[0];[code]......

I have this code that displays all vertical buttons for sharing my content however I want to display horizontal buttons if the user is using a smaller window size. It will have a different div and some of the code wil be changed i.e. "data-count="horizontal".
It would be awesome to also do this via my external JS file so it is not inline.
But that is not essential.
Also using fluid width CSS is not an option due to my having a sidebar with ads that can't be changed in size.
Code:
<div id="sharepost"><div class="sharer"><a href="http://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-url="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" data-text="<?php the_title(); ?>" data-count="vertical" data-via="code_love" data-related="love:code">Tweet</a><script type="text/javascript"

I need guideline with a script I am using for a link on my index page to load up a different page with two iFrames on it and at the same time load up different pages in each of these iFrames. I have achieved this with only one iFrame so far with this script:
1. <script type="text/javascript">
2. <!--
3.
4. function loadIframe(){
5. if (location.search.length > 0){
6. url = unescape(location.search.substring(1))
7.
8. window.frames["main"].location=url
9. }
10. }
11.
12. onload=loadIframe
13. //-->
14. </script>
15.
16. <a href="mainpage.html?about.htm"</a>
So basically when I click on Link1 on Page1 it takes me to Page2 with iFrame1 with a page loaded and iFrame2 with nothing loaded whereas I would like Link1 on Page1 to load up Page 2 with two different pages loaded in the iFrames all at the same time.

I have 2 monitors from a different size. It is important in my application that I get the screen size of the monitor where the webbrowser is located. When I try to get the screen size (window.screen.height + window.screen.width) only IE gives me always the screen size of the main monitor where my taskbar (windows7) is located, instead of the screen size of the secondary screen where the webbrowser is located.

I am to create 4 links on a html page that when the link is clicked it brings an image up in a certain position. When you click the second link it is to bring that image up in the same position as the first image and so on and so on. I can get the links to work but the image is full size and it is not in the position that I was expecting it to be in. Once the image is displayed it covers the links so they are not able to be used. I put all the code on one page just for testing purposes, I figred that if I could get it to work in one page splitting the code into a css page and a js page would be the easy part. I have rewritten the code with buttons instead of links and I get the same result.I think there is a problem with the css but I am not sure.

I am using this javascript code to detect screen size and display an alternate css.
if (screen.width<1600)
{
document.write('<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php echo $path ?>/css/templateadjust.css" type="text/css" />');
}
This works fine in FF and Chrome but doesn't seem to work in IE.

I need to know how to get the actual screen size in points or centimeters, not in pixels. The javascript functions give me the pixels, but I need to know how many points or centimeters that is regardless if it comes from a browser or a device like an ipad or iphone. Does anyone know the code to calculate this?

I am new to Javascripting but am teaching myself and have written this script from my portfolio site in an effort to detect the users screen resolution so that my art is viewed properly. I have ran the code through a debugger and it has comback as "free of errors" but when I run the webpage on my local machine it does nothing, the page displays as if I had written nothing and due to my limited knowledge of Javascript I am at a loss and hoping for someone to say, "look you screwed this part up fix this and it's good to go". Here is the code
<script language="Javascript">
function detect(){
if(screen.width<1280||screen.height<720){
alert("This web page is best viewed with a screen resolution of 1280 by 720 or higher. Your current resolution is "+screen.width+" by "+screen.height+". If possible please change your resolution.")
}

I'm currently designing this website:
[URL]
and I'm trying to get the images on the left to fit the size of the browser screen on the right when you click on them. The images themselves are huge, so I'd like some kind of code that resizes the images to fit the size of the visitor's screen, which will vary from user to user.

I'm building a webpage using javascript and iframes. Basically I have an iframe in the middle of the index.html page that links to another html page (let's call it iframe.html). My question is, is it possible to call a javascript function from iframe.html to control an object on index.html? If so, how do I do this? I'd like to be able to assign an image in iframe.html with the hyperlink of href="javascript:function()", where the function effects the CSS of a div on index.html.

I am using the bookflip plugin i found here: [URL]
I am attempting to modify the code so the book pages resize based on the screen width... or height... not really sure how this should be done as I need the proportions of the pages to stay consistent.
I have been able to achieve the resize on page load but I now need to add the resize() method to the variable.
This is what I have so far (original code):
var $containerwidth = $(window).width();
var $pagewidth = $containerwidth/1.22;
var $pageheight = $containerwidth/2.05;
I think I need to add an if() statement in the variable that says if page width or height changes resize else original code that is working. I have this code which I know works but I can't seem to get to work with one variable without overriding the original code... which doesn't work with this application.
$(window).bind('resize', function(){
$(window).width()/1.22;
});
Is this the correct approach to achieve this. I have found I must work within the original JS file as overriding will not work.
if(..........? page resizes ?............){
$(window).bind('resize', function(){
$(window).width()/1.22;
});

I'm experimenting with different ways to sequence the different coding required in order to reach the same end result (a dynamic, loaded page with results of database queries.
Whats the best way to go about it in terms of achieving best speeds possible and creating an easy to maintain and modify code? Theres lot's of different tables i need to queury. Should i...
1. Hard code only the most basic HTML tags like HTML, HEAD, and BODY, as well as container divs for the different page fragments i want. Once these are rendered (body onload), make all AJAX requests needed for all different parts of the page and load each of those segments individually and asynchronously, appending the AJAX responses to the tags once processing is complete.
2. Same as above, but instead of making Ajax queries onload, write static php for the page that loads before any HTML is rendered. This i think would make it less flexible but may be slightly faster ? Or is the speed the same as in previous example ?
3. hard code only a single HTML tag, and do all processing using AJAX, then append all the result as one big single child to the HTML tag once everything is done.
4. Is there another better way to go about it than these?

I know how to employ .load() to bring a partial doc.html into a receptacle division upon menu selection, but am still unclear after reading the api whether I can also load a dedicated .css file for it ...I suppose prior to content load(?)... or if I can/should outfit the doc.html with <head><style> yada yada</style></head> and load it as one doc..
Or is one obliged to write out the entire styling for the doc.html in camelCase as a string enclosed in .css() ??
These are various stories fetchable via a menu. Each one has a different and detailed set of classes for styling..
Lastly, should I identify each story as an id or class?
What I'm not wrapping my head around is how to lay out the stylesheet. If a particular story ...(I'm using the same name as its document page (minus '.html')... is denoted as a class or id, then how do I assure that all the classes and id's which are in effect subordinate only to that id or class name also get loaded...?
