Javascript To Determine Which Form Element Is Displayed

Nov 12, 2006

Im trying to find the correct syntax to use to determine whether which form
element is visible on changing the value in a dropdown list
I need something in the onChange of the dropdown list that will cause the
appropriate element on another part of the page to be displayed Code:

var mydropdownlist =
document.questform.typeid.options[document.questform.typeid.selectedIndex].v
alue;
if(mydropdownlist<6)
then display <input name="ans1" type="text" >
else
display <textarea name="ans1" rows="1" ></textarea>

Determine FORM That Contains A Specific INPUT Element?

Oct 11, 2006

I created this test routine to return the form containing a certain
input element:

function GetElementForm(element)
{
// Return the form that contains element.

varmyElement = element;

while (myElement)
{
myElement = myElement.parentNode;
if (myElement)
{
var sTagName = myElement.tagName;
if (sTagName)
{
if (sTagName.toLowerCase() == "form")
{
break;
}}}}
return myElement;}

This seems to work for "well formed" HTML, but fails for example, when
a form is defined within a table.

How Do I Determine The Number Of Lines Displayed In Browser?

Oct 2, 2005

If I had a webpage that displayed a database in tabular form, it would
be nice to know how many lines of text the browser could display
without scrolling, then have the cgi script output the appropriate
number of lines of data to fill the screen.

I've seen examples of how to get the browser window size in pixels, but
is there a way to determine the number of lines that are displayed?

Dynamically Determine Current Field Element?

Jul 20, 2005

Is it possible to dynamically determine the current field element in a
form?

I ask because I have a 'tab' button on a form, and when a user clicks
on it I need to be able to shift the focus to the next field, and also
if the current field is the last field on the form, essentially to do
nothing.

Conceptually, I guess I'm trying to do something like:

function clicktab(){

variable = current.field.element.number;
if (variable < n) {
variable++;
document.forms[0].element[variable].focus;
}}

In the above function, "n" would be the total number of fields in the
form.

Determine Position Of Element From Top Of Page (not Browser)

Jul 27, 2011

I have a floating div that stays at the bottom of the browser window while the user scrolls down a long page. The div reads "scroll down for more". How can I determine the current position of the div in relation to the top of the page, not the top of the browser window. I need to determine this because I would like to hide the div when the user scrolls to the top of the last page. I have looked at offsetParent, offsetHeight, scrollHeight, etc.

I have the code for everything except determining the position of the div, or the distance of the div from the top of the page.

Determine If Applet Is Loaded With Javascript

May 31, 2005

I call methods in a Java applet with javascript code like this:

document.myApplet.methodName();
This works great when the applet has loaded (the JVM has started and dowloaded all the jars) but it fails if the applet hasn't loaded yet, at which point it gives an error:
Quote:

Error: Object doesn't support this property or method

Is there a way to determine that the applet is loaded or not so that I can use it in an if statement? For instance, like so:
Code:
if (isAppletLoaded()) {
document.myApplet.methodName();
}
I tried
Code:
document.myApplet == null
but that didn't work.

Whitespace Trouble In Form Element Names W/javascript

Oct 5, 2001

I am having difficulty using javascript to validate form fields with whitespaces in the element names (ex: First Name, Last Name).

here's a code snippet:
###
function validate(formObj) {
if (document.form1.Payment Method.checked){
do something here...}
###

the problem is that javascript won't read the element "Payment Method" unless i mash the name into one word. (i don't want to do that because i later use the element names to provide a printable customer receipt

i tried using the ascii octal number for a whitespace in the above code (...form1.Payment40Method.checked...), but to no avail.

Validate A Form Displayed In A Lightbox?

Jan 9, 2011

Just wondering if anyone has ever managed to validate a form that is loaded in a lightbox? I've search everywhere, so it's either really hard and nobody knows or so simple that nobody thinks it's worth mentioning!

Overview

I have managed to create a form that is validated using a jquery script. Works fine, when loaded as a regular .html page.

Problem

However, when I load the form (from a clickable link) that displays it in a lightbox, all validation disappears! Although the form still displays and submits data.

Is there a special way to validate forms in a lightbox?

Or can anyone recommend a lightbox script/plugin that comes with data validation?

I am having a particular problem with my Javascript page, which should change the form that the user is at. Need to proofread my code to check for errors? The code does not change the form (Also it does not run the PHP page, or at least does not display its output in the loginStatus div):

if (window.XMLHttpRequest)
{// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari
xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest();
}
else
{// code for IE6, IE5
