I am in the process of porting an application i have been building for a couple of years to jQuery from jquery/prototypejs&scriptaculous.
Reading the new documentation i see that bind can take multiple observers (for example)
$( "div.test" ) .bind (
[Code].....
Is this also true with "live" ( i am adding alot of dynamic elements to a page that have tooltips attached to them and have written a simple tooltip plugin that uses live to stop me constantly needing to call the plugin everytime somehting on the page changes to do with the tooltip..
I have live focusin and focusout bound for form validation. But if some content is created dynamically (either via a templating system or via ajax) it doesn't seem possible to initialise those elements (i have placeholder text that i might want to add inside the element for example).
Is there an event that is fired when an element is added to the dom?
So, I read about the new method of passing an object map containing element properties when creating a new jQuery object (as discussed at the bottom of this article). The article says that it supports ALL events, but only gives examples of simple events that require no parameters. I'm trying to implement a live event using the following and can't get it to work:
var link = $('<a />', { text: config.appendTextMore, href: "#",
I have some LI elements, where, on page load a function bindHover() binds the hover event handler code I need to that LI element.Later in my script, I'm appending another LI to that list, sorting the list, and calling bindHover() again, which binds the hover event handler to the newly appended element, but also all of the existing LI elements that already are bound.
The table, and the input id element, are dynamically created from database records and I use jQuery live to initialize the datepicker for each field, like so:
The idea is that when I click in the input field, the datepicker pops up and allows the user to input a date. While the date shows in the input field in the table, the value attribute of the input field is empty. I can't use the getDate() method on the datepicker, since I can't programmatically connect the datepicker element in any particular row with the input element in that row. I tried the onClose method shown below, but that doesn't work either. Has anyone done this successfully?
I created this test routine to return the form containing a certain input element:
function GetElementForm(element) { // Return the form that contains element.
varmyElement = element;
while (myElement) { myElement = myElement.parentNode; if (myElement) { var sTagName = myElement.tagName; if (sTagName) { if (sTagName.toLowerCase() == "form") { break; }}}} return myElement;}
This seems to work for "well formed" HTML, but fails for example, when a form is defined within a table.
Im trying to find the correct syntax to use to determine whether which form element is visible on changing the value in a dropdown list I need something in the onChange of the dropdown list that will cause the appropriate element on another part of the page to be displayed Code:
var mydropdownlist = document.questform.typeid.options[document.questform.typeid.selectedIndex].v alue; if(mydropdownlist<6) then display <input name="ans1" type="text" > else display <textarea name="ans1" rows="1" ></textarea>
Is it possible to dynamically determine the current field element in a form?
I ask because I have a 'tab' button on a form, and when a user clicks on it I need to be able to shift the focus to the next field, and also if the current field is the last field on the form, essentially to do nothing.
Conceptually, I guess I'm trying to do something like:
I have a floating div that stays at the bottom of the browser window while the user scrolls down a long page. The div reads "scroll down for more". How can I determine the current position of the div in relation to the top of the page, not the top of the browser window. I need to determine this because I would like to hide the div when the user scrolls to the top of the last page. I have looked at offsetParent, offsetHeight, scrollHeight, etc.
I have the code for everything except determining the position of the div, or the distance of the div from the top of the page.

is there a way in jQuery to bind variables to function calls similar as prototype.js does it? See [URL]
E.g. in the slideUp method of jQuery you can specify a callback that is called after the effect has finished. I would like to bind a variable to this call so that it is used inside of this callback as a closure.
As far as I understood, stopPropagation() is supposed to stop events bubbling 'up' though the element tree (through parent elements). Eg. If I use stopPropagation() on a click event on an anchor element in a list, the event would not be triggered on the list. In my code I have a popup div, that needs to have stopPropagation(), as a click on the document (everywhere other than the popup) will hide it. When I add an element to the popup that has a live click event, the live click event is never called, even though it is a child element of the popup. Shouldn't the live click get called first? If I remove the stopPropagation all is well.. some code:
I am new to this discussion but hope you would post reply for my query and encourage me to keep in touch with this discussion. Well here is my problem. I have made an edit in place form in which we can add and remove the elements. I have used jquery.jeditable.mini.js and jquery.duplicate-remove.js plugins for edit in place and add and remove action. I have live() function to access the dynamically ganerated elements like this. $(".addressDiv span").live("mouseover", function(){ clickable function here...
I just want to make a note of a recent fix I installed that was confusing me for quite a few days, just in case anyone else has the same problem.I have a menu which will slideDown and slideUp as the user traverses it. Each node of the menu was binded to a function that did the logic.When the frame was small enough to force a scroll bar, clicking on any node, no matter where the scroll bar was, would force it to the top.Originally, I had
