Dynamically Determine Current Field Element?
Jul 20, 2005
Is it possible to dynamically determine the current field element in a
form?
I ask because I have a 'tab' button on a form, and when a user clicks
on it I need to be able to shift the focus to the next field, and also
if the current field is the last field on the form, essentially to do
nothing.
Conceptually, I guess I'm trying to do something like:
function clicktab(){
variable = current.field.element.number;
if (variable < n) {
variable++;
document.forms[0].element[variable].focus;
}}
In the above function, "n" would be the total number of fields in the
form.

I created this test routine to return the form containing a certain
input element:
function GetElementForm(element)
{
// Return the form that contains element.
varmyElement = element;
while (myElement)
{
myElement = myElement.parentNode;
if (myElement)
{
var sTagName = myElement.tagName;
if (sTagName)
{
if (sTagName.toLowerCase() == "form")
{
break;
}}}}
return myElement;}
This seems to work for "well formed" HTML, but fails for example, when
a form is defined within a table.

I have a floating div that stays at the bottom of the browser window while the user scrolls down a long page. The div reads "scroll down for more". How can I determine the current position of the div in relation to the top of the page, not the top of the browser window. I need to determine this because I would like to hide the div when the user scrolls to the top of the last page. I have looked at offsetParent, offsetHeight, scrollHeight, etc.
I have the code for everything except determining the position of the div, or the distance of the div from the top of the page.

I have this odd situation in which a function receives an element that needs some cleanup; all events to which it is bind to should be removed
Unfortunately, I don't know if the events are bind using 'bind' or 'live'
Is it possible to use find this out somehow using only this element ?

The value of this.id is "platform_SWFUpload_0_0" but the result of thisID.match (pattern) is null.

hi everybody, didn't find this using the search :( this is my problem:
i create a dom element dynamically (<span>) and want to assign a class
attribute to it such that it has some css style, this works in ie, but
not in firefox :( here's the simple code:
<div id="somediv"></div>
var div = window.document.getElementById("somediv");
var span = window.document.createElement("span");
span.innerHTML = "span";
span.attributes.getNamedItem("class").nodeValue = "span_class";
div.appendChild(span);
so this works well in ie6, but firefox gives this error:
Error: span.attributes.getNamedItem("class") has no properties
if i run this code on a statically defined span (in the html file),
where a class attribute already is set:
<div id="somediv">
<span id="spanspan" class="">
</span>
</div>
changing the class to "span_class" works both in ie and firefox.
how can i fix my above code such that it works in both browsers? it
seems that on newly created dom elements the class attribute isn't even
there (to change it), how can i create it, and then change it?

I'm currently designing a form with client-side validation using javascript. I've set the input property to display as the value (for example, "your name" inside the name field) and I've set the javascript to clear value using name.focus but everytime I reselect the field to edit the value, it clears again, so I'm trying to make it so that on the 2nd time it get's selected, the nameClear funtion doesn't run.Here's what I've got so far, but it's not working. For some reason, the else statement within the function that runs on .focus is showing as invalid in my debugger, but it looks fine to me.
name.focus(function() {
if(name.val("Your name"))
name.val("");

I need to aply this to over 100 documents on the center bottom of the last page only. And I haven't a clue how to do this in a batch. I have done this so far using the Advanced, document processing.

I have an HTML contact form on many different pages of a web site. I need to know which page the user was on when they submit the form. I need to pass the URL of the current page as a hidden field through the form when it's submitted. Do I need to add javascript to the header to call a function pulling the URL and then a secondary function to place it in the hidden field's "value" attribute?

here's the one of example codes from documentation:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.5.js"></script>
[Code].....
As soon as I add this line of code, .selected is nothi-lightedany more. Now, I understand that this is the way this function is supposed to work (guess so,otherwiseit's a bug), but I couldn't find any function in documentation that would go from my current element to the first element that has that classapplied and skip everything in between.

I am using AJAX + JSON to construct a HTML code, which physicaly does not appear on my page, but after is created and put in a variable I display it with innerHTML. Then with another on e function, I tell some of the <tr> to get style.display = 'none', which is working properly! Then I want to check which of them are currently invisible an d for that purpose I use:
Code:
for (p = 0; p < rows.length; p++) {
if(document.getElementById(rows[p].id).style.display == 'none') {
alert(rows[p].id);
}
}
where rows is a define array with getElementsbyTag with all the <tr> - s. Then what happens is really strange - I am getting alerted ALL the <tr> ids, including the currently visible, and, then they dissappear, (as if I have told them to make them style.display = none, which I haven't)!! I have tried also with currentStyle instead of style, but the effect is the same.

I'm working on a website incorporating facebook plugins (widgets) but am running into the issue of having to statically input a page's url rather than dynamically including the current page's URL in the facebook "like" code. I have tried numerous methods to no avail. The code merely loads the FB's own source like page as the href page instead of the page the like code is on.Here are the codes and my desired output: This is predefined FB code
Code:
<fb:like href="LINK" layout=button_count></fb:like>
I dont know php, perl, python, asp.net, or any other coding, but have dabbled in JS over the years and know minimal coding. So I Googled for hours and finally came up with the correct location.href use for when you're trying to use it in a function only and not a document.write format. So I came up with this code:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function AutoLink() {
location.href = location.href;[code].....
