I have been attempting to transition to use of xhtml strict doctype andmy text editor, BBEdit (on Mac) tells me, when I ask it to check syntax,that the attribute 'name' is not allowed in form object, as in any otherform element that I tried to use it in. This begs the question, how doI script forms with javascript in the context of this doctype? None ofthe javascript texts I have address this issue (O'Reilly Rhino book andothers).I could figure it out, but it appears to be a complicated process, justdoing getElementById() and sorting it out.Does anyone have a reference to material that deals with this issue?

I read something about this on another forum and I think it has something to do with the declaration of obj.style.top, but I can't find a solution. I've tried creating a new variable that contains "document.getElementByID(obj)" and then using that variable to change the top of the image, but it still doesn't work.
I have created an animated image gallery in dhtml. It works fine in Internet Explorer. In Firefox, it only works if I ommit the DOCTYPE tag. I had to add the following DOCTYPE to a webpage in order for IE to parse my page design properly, and this caused the form on the page to fail in FireFox (which works fine without the doctype). The form works fine in IE.Here is the DOCTYPE I added to the top of the page;

I want to change attribute action in form. Problem is that in that form is also input with name action. Unfortunately renaming of that input is worst case because many servlets depend on it.
This works in konqueror but not in IE and Mozilla:
My Form Name Attribute is changing the background color of the field. When I take the name attribute out of the form element, it looks ok. Wondering if maybe it has something to do with the onfocus and onblur that I have in each element.
In IE6 and IE7, the following results in an empty jQuery selector being returned: $("form[name='formname']") I tried matching on other attributes of my form such as: $("form[method='post']") which works without any problems.
It seems that the only situation that does not work is when trying to match the name attribute on forms. I am guessing this is just a browser bug/limitation but is it something jQuery could potentially work around? I just would prefer matching forms by name for certain situations since it makes the most sense semantically in many cases for me. Would love to know the reason why this happens. Found this bug first in jQuery 1.4.4 but forgot about it at the time until it just came up again which I replicated in version 1.5.2 and then again when I upgraded to test in version 1.6.4.

i have found a possible bug in 1.4 but it's only in Internet Explorer 7 & 8.The following code does not work and completely ruins every peice of jquery on the page (that means everything inside $(document).ready and anyting else...
I cant see any syntax errors - i pulled the example from the 1.4 site. There is no trailing commas in the object notation and i really cant see any reason it would work in firefox and not IEx and more to the point not only not work in IEx but break any other jquery in the entire page....
I was roughing out a feature I want to add to my site in notepad with no doctype declare.I got it just how I wanted, then realized it didn't work in IE. I added a doctype, it validates at xhtml strict, but it killed IE, while it started adding round corners in IE which wasn't working with no doctype...but now my JS isn't working... So I lost functionality of the JS while adding the round corner style that wasnt working when the JS was mostly working...FF works fine every damn way of course....I uploaded it to http://[url]......Also when it was functioning, the lower set of icons background wasn't showing. I seem to be having trouble getting the submithandler form attribute working. The link is here: [URL]. For some reason it submits and does not show the alert I have inside the function of the submithandler attribute.
Can anyone tell me how i can change which attribute on my form field triggers the validation?currently it appears the be the name attribute. This <div> layer positioned always at bottom left of the screen on scrolling (and calling some code from labpixies) works well in non-ie browsers, but in ie it requires the omission of the doctype declaration. Why? Is it possible to fix it so that it works with the doctype in ie?

I have a section of Javascript code that works a treat in IE but does nothing in Firefox. If we remove the doctype it appears to work, put the doctype back in and it breaks. We need the doctype to remain in so the page renders correctly cross-browser. Code:
For a variety of reasons that I won't currently go into, I need a lightbox script that doesn't rely so heavy on the document's DOCTYPE (Strict, Transitional, etc) and will just work with a page where the DOCTYPE doesn't get assigned.
I'm working with a large (and unweildy) ASP.NET application, and there is a lot of jQuery code that uses selectors like this:
[name=_aspnetControl$_withASubControl] And unfortunately, some selectors that also look like this:
[name^=_someAspNetControl$_radioButtonList].
In other words, the effort to remove the $ from the attribute selectors would be monumental. If it is possible to escape the $ symbols, I can do that easily enough, but unfortunately the situation right now means that I can't upgrade to jQuery 1.5.
