JQuery :: Attribute Selecting On Form Name Does Not Work In IE6 / IE7
Oct 4, 2011
In IE6 and IE7, the following results in an empty jQuery selector being returned:
$("form[name='formname']")
I tried matching on other attributes of my form such as:
$("form[method='post']")
which works without any problems.
It seems that the only situation that does not work is when trying to match the name attribute on forms. I am guessing this is just a browser bug/limitation but is it something jQuery could potentially work around? I just would prefer matching forms by name for certain situations since it makes the most sense semantically in many cases for me. Would love to know the reason why this happens. Found this bug first in jQuery 1.4.4 but forgot about it at the time until it just came up again which I replicated in version 1.5.2 and then again when I upgraded to test in version 1.6.4.
I'm working with a large (and unweildy) ASP.NET application, and there is a lot of jQuery code that uses selectors like this:
[name=_aspnetControl$_withASubControl] And unfortunately, some selectors that also look like this:
[name^=_someAspNetControl$_radioButtonList].
In other words, the effort to remove the $ from the attribute selectors would be monumental. If it is possible to escape the $ symbols, I can do that easily enough, but unfortunately the situation right now means that I can't upgrade to jQuery 1.5.
I am trying to select all anchors that point to external links and do not contain images (so that I can append an image indicating such). The first in this multistage process is to select anchors that have href values beginning with "http" but it appears that .attr() sets the value, as opposed to retrieving it.
I am trying to make a poll using jquery and php and am bit lost. I have a link <a href="poll.php?vote_id=1&post_id=25">I agree</a> Now how do I use jquery to select the vote_id and post_id. I need to store them in variables so that I can pass it on to a php file using get statement.
I am writing a test harness for a web app using jquery. When recording a test, I add handlers for user interaction events (e.g. click on an A tag), and record details of the tag clicked. When playing back, I need to find the tag (so I can emulate a click on it). The A tags do not have id elements - the only unique way to identify then is to use the href. However, I have hrefs containing quote characters [typical hrefs include "javascript:Go('fred')" and even "javascript:Go("jimmy's ")"]. How do I construct a jquery selector to match these?
My first attempt (before I noticed the presence of the quotes) was
$("A[href='" + href + "']")
Interestingly, this hung the browser completely for many minutes!
I've got the following code (from this tutorial:[url]
thisItem = $(this).attr('rel');
Then I create HTML for navigation:
And it works perfect but only when I use single category for rel="". In this case rel="abc" works and rel="abc abc2" doesn't work.
There must be something with $('.pf_item li[rel!='+thisItem+']') but since I don't know jQuery I can't solve it myself. I just want to change this line into something that is able to work with multiple attributes in rel.
If I create checkboxes in javascript and give them names this does not work in IE. The post of the values works fine but I can't fetch the checkboxes by their name from javascript. This works perfectly in Firefox. If I use the IE developer toolbar I seethat the created checkboxes does not have the name attribute. In firefox they do have the name.See this example that works perfectly in firefox but gives empty result in IE:
I have an image map. I need to use XHTML 1.1 for this project and the code must validate. The problem is, XHTML 1.1 no longer supports the Name Attribute, it will not validate any code containing the Name Attribute. If I remove the Name Attribute, the image map does not work in FireFox.Are there any means or other method to make this work in Firefox without the Name Attribute? Here is the code for reference:
Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
I'm using a form in several places for this project. I don't want to duplicates of this form so I have it as an include file. Each page requires all the same fields, however, there is one page where I'd like to remove two fields.
Is there a way to remove an input field and it's label by selecting the ID of the input field? I looked at the JQuery doc, and there's a prev + next selector which shows $('label + input').css ... this will set css properties for an input element that follows a label element. something like $('#FirstName > label + input').remove...
I'm trying to add the text of a textarea form to the string that's contained at: myarray[a][b][c] It was easy to pull out the value of the textarea with this: textinput = $('#mytextarea').val(); But then when I try to add the variable into the array, it doesn't work. I'm not able (apparently) to do this. Fingers crossed that I'm doing something dumb?
This doesn't work: myarray[a][b][c] += newstringvariable; Nor this: myarray[a][b][c] = myarray[a][b][c] + textinput; I'm guessing there is a very simple (probably syntax related!) solution to this. I'm open to doing this via jQuery or regular javascript.
I seem to be having trouble getting the submithandler form attribute working. The link is here: [URL]. For some reason it submits and does not show the alert I have inside the function of the submithandler attribute.
Can anyone tell me how i can change which attribute on my form field triggers the validation?currently it appears the be the name attribute. So in my Rails app using Rails helpers, it sets the name to somthing like formname['fieldname'] and the whole name.in my script if i do something like [codde]it causes the script to break.
i have found a possible bug in 1.4 but it's only in Internet Explorer 7 & 8.The following code does not work and completely ruins every peice of jquery on the page (that means everything inside $(document).ready and anyting else...
I cant see any syntax errors - i pulled the example from the 1.4 site. There is no trailing commas in the object notation and i really cant see any reason it would work in firefox and not IEx and more to the point not only not work in IEx but break any other jquery in the entire page....
I'm learning jQuery with XML. I'm familiar with other query languages such as XPath. I'm having a little bit of difficulty wrapping my brain around how jQuery works but I think I can make the leap if I see a solution to a problem I know how to solve with other methods Given the following XML, please share a jQuery solution to finding the value of attribute B in elements named bar where attribute A has the value 30:
I have the following function that selects all of the values in a multiple select box. Can anybody help me extend it to do this for more than one select box?
function selectAll() { List = document.forms[0].categories; if (List.length && List.options[0].value == 'temp') return; for (i=0;i<List.length;i++){ List.options[i].selected = true; } closeMe() }
Since this list include every country in the world (a long list) I'd like to offer users the a few text links along the side that select popular countries within the list without having to scroll through the huge list ... click here to select United States, click here to select Japan, etc.
I'm looking for a JavaScript solution that will allow me to submit two separate hidden variables by only selecting one dropdown field from a HTML submission form.
Each option of the dropdown field contains two data values: quantity and price. I'm selling some products online and I'd like to have different prices based on the quantity of the product order.
Below is the code that I was thinking, though it's not functional... just wanted you to understand what I'm looking for!
Basically the user selects the desired quantity, and after his submission the form will pass me the quantity and the price from the dropdown field in TWO SEPARATE hidden variables.
I have several such products on a single HTML page, so the solution should be capable of working with multiple product forms on the same page. It's also important that I have only ONE dropdown field, plus the submission button. Nothing else really.
Trying to build a dynamic part on my form by using a checkbox and <span>. Found a script that does exactly what i want, but uses a 'radio' in the script instead of a checkbox. And at that spot i need to be able to make multiple selections, so i need checkboxes.. In this specific case it's about geslacht='v' checkbox
My problems are:
1. My span doesn't start off at invisible 2. My function match_personalia_geslacht() works with a onChange, not with a onSelect.
Don't know how to get the same result with a checkbox.. So if someone can help me, i would be a happy man.
I want to change attribute action in form. Problem is that in that form is also input with name action. Unfortunately renaming of that input is worst case because many servlets depend on it.
This works in konqueror but not in IE and Mozilla:
