JQuery :: Selecting Element Where The Href Contains String

Aug 7, 2009

I'm trying to add a class to a <li> where the href within it contains a string. I can apply the class to the anchor without a problem, but I can't seem to select the parent. Is an anchor a child? <li><a href="random.xls">Random Stuff</a></li>

In this case, since the href contains .xls, I'd like to be able to add a class to it. I've tried a variety of things, most recently this, but no luck: $('li has(a[href$=".xls"])').addClass('excel');

JQuery :: Selecting Anchors By Attribute Value

Nov 16, 2010

I am trying to select all anchors that point to external links and do not contain images (so that I can append an image indicating such). The first in this multistage process is to select anchors that have href values beginning with "http" but it appears that .attr() sets the value, as opposed to retrieving it.

JQuery :: Attribute Selecting On Form Name Does Not Work In IE6 / IE7

Oct 4, 2011

In IE6 and IE7, the following results in an empty jQuery selector being returned:
$("form[name='formname']")
I tried matching on other attributes of my form such as:
$("form[method='post']")
which works without any problems.

It seems that the only situation that does not work is when trying to match the name attribute on forms. I am guessing this is just a browser bug/limitation but is it something jQuery could potentially work around? I just would prefer matching forms by name for certain situations since it makes the most sense semantically in many cases for me. Would love to know the reason why this happens. Found this bug first in jQuery 1.4.4 but forgot about it at the time until it just came up again which I replicated in version 1.5.2 and then again when I upgraded to test in version 1.6.4.

JQuery :: Href Attribute IE Vs Standards Browsers

Aug 30, 2010

I'm having an odd issue that i can't recreate in jsbin.i have an anchor tag:

<a class="navigateToCategory" href="#523">Instruments</a>
and the code below:
$('.navigateToCategory').bind('click',function(e){
e.preventDefault();
alert($(this).attr('href'));
});

IE will give me [URL] while all other browsers give me "#523". I tried to recreate this using a small test case, but i can't do it. IE always returns the "#523" just like all the other browsers. here's a jsbin of it workinghttp://jsbin.com/unowe3/13 why .attr('href') would be different in IE vs Other browsers on my page but not jsbin? i'm using the same doctype and version of jquery, and identical code. i can't think of any code that i could have written that would affect how .attr('href') works. Edit: i did build a "hacky" solution for it by using $.browser.msie and an if statement, but it doesn't make any sense to me why it would be different in my situation vs any other.(not to mention, if it for some reason starts working properly, the "hacky" solution will cause it to not work)

JQuery :: Finding/selecting Items Identified By An Attribute Whose Value Contains Quote Characters

Jul 2, 2009

I am writing a test harness for a web app using jquery. When recording a test, I add handlers for user interaction events (e.g. click on an A tag), and record details of the tag clicked. When playing back, I need to find the tag (so I can emulate a click on it). The A tags do not have id elements - the only unique way to identify then is to use the href. However, I have hrefs containing quote characters [typical hrefs include "javascript:Go('fred')" and even "javascript:Go("jimmy's ")"]. How do I construct a jquery selector to match these?

My first attempt (before I noticed the presence of the quotes) was

$("A[href='" + href + "']")

Interestingly, this hung the browser completely for many minutes!

JQuery :: Post Clicked Elements Attribute To Php?

Jan 12, 2011

I have a jquery menu from which i want to post certain information when a particular element is clicked to my php script which searches a db based on the variables input and presents the information back on the page.

So jquery drop down menu has 4 sections all with drop downs. I want to return results based on the section and then the drop down clicked

So clearly i can get this working fine using html and a form but i just want to use the information in the <li> elements instead..

Can i in jquery do this: upon clicking said element post the class attribute and txt as two things to my php scripts?

Getting Href Attribute Of <base> Tag?

Jul 20, 2005

I'm trying to get the href attribute from the base tag in the document
head. The following does not seem to work... any ideas what I'm doing
wrong?

if(!(document.getElementsByTagName) ||
!(basehrefs = document.getElementsByTagName('base')) ||
!(basehrefs.length) || !(basehrefs.length > 0) ||
!(basehrefs[0].getAttribute) ||
!(basehref = basehrefs[0].getAttribute('href')) )
basehref = ''

This is essentially a very cautious version of:

basehref = doument.getElementsByTagName('base')[0].getAttribute('href')

The big hairy if just provides checks to make sure everything can be
done and provide a contingency if it doesn't...

Change Href Attribute With Two Dropdowns

Nov 24, 2005

I am in a problems here trying to generate link by two dropdown boxes. So, I wanted it to be like when user selects some option from dropdown one the href attribute changes, index.php?staticvar=something&dynvar1=something, that is something I have already managed to do:

function change_href(id)
{
if (id != '')
{
var dynvar1 = document.getElementById("s"+id).value;
document.getElementById(id).href = "index.php?staticvar="+id+"&dynvar1="+dynvar1;
return;
}
else
{
return false;
}
}
This works perfectly for me, but now I need to modify the href with another variable, so it would be needed to be like:
index.php?staticvar=something&dynvar1=something&dynvar2=something2

The problem is that I don't know how to make it the way that user can change their selections, for example if user first selects (from dropdown) dynvar1 to be "test" and dynvar2 to be "test3", but then changes hes mind and decides to re-select dynvar2 to be "test4". It would be needed to be like only the dynvar2 part of the href changes with proper value (not changing the dynvar1 or staticvar).

I managed to make it changeable but it was like this:
index.php?staticvar=something&dynvar1=something&dynvar2=123&dynvar2=123

So, it didn't update the dynvar2 part, but instead just added another dynvar2 variable.

JQuery :: Matching All Anchor Tags With "http://" In The Href Attribute

Apr 19, 2010

I want to be able to match all <a> tags on a Web page that are external links, which would be signified by the href attribute starting with "http://", obviously. Then I want to add an attribute to the matching tags.

I ran across this script that is supposed to do that:

<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$('a[href^=http://]').attr('target','_blank');
});
</script>

But it doesn't work. I don't understand regex very well yet, so I'm not sure if that part of it is right, but the jQuery syntax looks correct to my inexperienced eyes.

I know jQuery is working on the site already, the script is below the call the the jQuery library, and yes, I do have the script in the Head tag of the page...

JQuery :: Href In Output Code Causing $getJson() Function To Try To Load Up A File With Href In Url

I'm using this with jQuery UI .tab() to create a listing with entries which have three tabs. Javascript Vote Buttons, Check If User Has Already Voted?

Jul 2, 2007

I currently run a website similar to digg, where users can vote on a story. What I have been using so far to create the vote buttons, are just simply links that insert a vote into a database. And if a user tries to vote again on the same story, it attempts to insert the vote into the database, (im using MySQL btw), but when it cannot, they are redirected to a page where it tells them they have already voted on the story.

Now I thinking there has to be a better way to do this, and that's when digg came to mind. Can someone please point me in the direction of a javascript tutorial/wiki etc. on creating javascript buttons that interact with a mysql database AND remember that you have voted.

JQuery :: Css Attribute Selectors No Longer Work With The '$' In The Attribute Value As Of 1.5+

Mar 4, 2011

I'm working with a large (and unweildy) ASP.NET application, and there is a lot of jQuery code that uses selectors like this:

[name=_aspnetControl$_withASubControl] And unfortunately, some selectors that also look like this:

[name^=_someAspNetControl$_radioButtonList].

In other words, the effort to remove the $ from the attribute selectors would be monumental. If it is possible to escape the $ symbols, I can do that easily enough, but unfortunately the situation right now means that I can't upgrade to jQuery 1.5.
