I have a form built and on the onclick event I validate all of the
fields and then if the form is ok, on the submit event I run a
javascript function to set a cookie and download a file from the
current window.
I have a cgi script provided by my web host to send the contents of the
form through email but they only show me how to use the cgi script to
send email through the submit event of the form.
Last week after much searching, I found the answer to my problem in this newsgroup. I can't find the thread from which I got my solution, but I wanted to report back what worked.
When the site visitor fills out the form and submits it, this calls a rather ordinary asp script like formmail.asp that sends the emails and displays a "thank you" web page. At the very end of my "thank you" web page I placed the following:
This causes the file download to get triggered, and asks the user if they want to save the file. In limited testing this appears to work fine in both Firefox and IE.

The purpose of these scripts are to allow you to send forms using javascript. If your server doesn't support scripting languages like php or perl, or if you are unfamiliar with those languages, then this is an easy alternative for you.
When you send a form using the mailto: command, the data gets sent using the post method and in the process gets reformatted. When you receive the form data in your email it will contain hexadecimal characters, spaces will be replaced with + signs, and each value will be separated by an & sign.
You have two options when sending a form with javascript. Either you can reformat the data before it's sent. Thereby creating an email that is legible upon receiving it. Or you can reformat the data after you receive the email. I have posted both methods on this page.
Option 1: REFORMAT AFTER
Create your form using the following syntax:

Then download the attachment to this post. Open the file in your web browser. When you receive the email containing the form data, just select it all and copy it. Then paste the data into the "hexadecimal value" box. Click decode to convert it to ascii. Then click split to remove +'s and to split data onto multiple lines. Use the "add html" checkbox to make the output viewable in your web browser.
NOTE: The first input tag that you use in your form will become the <title> if you use the html option. So if your first input tag is name="Name" value="Joe Smith" then the html title will appear as <title>Name: Joe Smith</title>.
The following code asks the user to sumbit a name, email address, and some text for a quotation via a FORM. I have written a javascript function to evaluate the fields in the form and pop-up a message to tell the user if all the fields have been fill-out. If the user has missed some information the form re-displays with red "alerts" indicating where the user have missed the information while re-populating the information the user has submitted.
May question is, after the user has successfully filled out the form, how can the submit request be forwarded to another jsp so the information can be emailed to me. I have written a jsp to accept the request and email it. This works if I remove the validation code. I am not familiar enough with javascript to be able to figure this one out. I may be on the wrong track.....

I would like to ask, what additional code should be added in the existing code in order to validate the numbers only and an email format before the form to be submitted?

I am trying to validate a web form. Someone else wrote the Html code and implemented it with an iframe using asp and php. I didn't want to mess too much with the code so I decided to use javascript to make the form validate, before it was sending email alerts with every field blank. I wanna send a file thru the JQuery.load, I want it to work exactly like the regular post without the JQuery. So I can check the $_FILES['file']['error'] in PHP and all its features like I do without using JQuery.

I want to make few forms but 1 submit button. I want to do 1 page, 5 forms, 1 submit button so when i click on the submit button it will send the 5 forms as 1 form.
I implemented Malsups jquery form and use it for ajax file uploads. Works fine in FF, but in IE as soon as the ajax has completed the upload IE gives me a File Download box - Security warning. If I click on save it save thereturnedJson object (I do JS call onsuccessto get a file list and display it). If I click cancel or save on the popup has same effect the file still gets uploaded but just looks ugly.
How can I get rid of this? All coming form the same domain, calling from the same domain. This is on a python django project and I am testing it on the dev server.

I am trying to get a form to call a javascript function on submit to send an ajax request. The site sits on one server and the php target file on another. I get a status of 0. From what I read, this is because the php file sits on a different server. I do don't believe I can get around the files sitting on different servers.I can set the php file as the form action, but I do not want to redirect, just send a request to the other server to modify some values in a DB. If I can not send an ajax request between servers, I was thinking an alternative might be to set the php file as the form action, run the updates, and then have the page redirect me back. Is there a better way to get around this problem
I'm looking to make a form that could potentially span over several steps (or pages) and have the details submitted to an email address. How can I split the form into multiple steps, so step 1 includes 5 questions, click next, then step 2 includes the next 5 questions, then on submit it emails the details (from both step 1 & 2) to a specific email address in one email?
If anyone could point me in the right direction or give me a hand that would be great. I've spent ages looking for some answers.

I'm trying to validate a form with on submit if statement, unfortunately this code only pops up platenum label or motornum label depending on which is filled, but if both are not filled, it only shows one.
I need to set up a form that once submitted opens a window thats 550x400. The form needs to be validated first however. I used an onClick event on the submit button but that opens the window regardless whether a user filled it out or not.
I am trying to use jquery: validation plugin by Jörn Zaefferer. Which works really well I have to say. The one limitation I am trying to work around is how I can run validation for required fields before I submit a form. At the moment I have to submit the form before I see the error messages for required fields I would like to see them prior as the user tabs through the form.
I am trying to make form in dreamweaver with several text boxes. If the person doesn't fill out one or more of the boxes, I want an error message to come up which lists which boxes weren't filled out. If they ARE filled correctly, I want the page to redirect to a thanks page.This isn't online, and I'm new to coding. But its going ok, I just can't get the form to validate AND redirect if return true (or something???). I don't know how to do that. I am having an issue where:
User clicks a button it opens a lightbox (I am using Fancybox) - a form appears inside the modal. The data is submitted via AJAX and I am trying to validate the form before the form within the lightbox is submitted.
My button with the click handler right now does a GET to a server to send the data. Along with some other JavaScript. What is the best way for me to validate my form within a lightbox, and submit after it validates. Sending AJAX.
