Running Before The HTML Has Completely Loaded - DOM Nodes - Failing To Receive Browser Alerts?
Dec 3, 2009
I'm coding in Dreamweaver CS3 on a Mac, and am running latest Firefox I am in the DOM chapter of SitePoint's "Simply Javascript", where I'm learning how javascript references elements/nodes from the html (much like CSS) PROBLEM: I am failing to receive browser alerts in the following situation
[Code]...
I'm expecting to get browser alerts saying 'p' and 'this is a test of js...', respectively I get nothing, and nothing on refresh NOTE: when I leave the .properties off target, i do get an alert that reads 'null' Q. is my .js running before the HTML has completely loaded? oorrr am i missing something really basic?
I have an XML file that I'm trying to load into and xml object, however the doctype tag is killing the javascript, and does not parse the XML at all. If I remove the doctype, the javascript can parse, and I can access the XML DOM. So I know the XML is valid. Even with the Doctype, it validates. However Javascript does not like it. I don't have a choice to remove the Doctype tag of the XML.
If I remove the Doctype, this method works to parse the XML DOM: Code: xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"); xmlDoc.async = false; xmlDoc.load(filename);
Also, if I use the .open method to retrieve the XML, I cannot access the XML DOM via xmlhttp.responseXML. But I do get a result when I use xmlhttp.responseText, it displays the corresponding XML. Code: xmlhttp.open("GET", filename, false);
I created a slideshow using the cycle-lite pluginLINK. LINK TO SLIDESHOW The slideshow is nearly great. The first time you load the images it is a bit bizarre. The images loads and fades at the same time.
Is there a way i can hide the images until all has loaded then trigger the slideshow.
I'm working on a script to pass the content height to some other element. The whole script is within the document ready function, but somehow Google Chrome thinks the content height is 0 (zero), because it's so fast. When I set a timeout it works correctly, but I don't really like this solution because of the delay.
var contentHeight = ($('body').height(); setTimeout(function() { var contentHeight = ($('body').height();
I have a web service that accepts application/json but returns HTML to place in a DIV. I am not having any luck configuring the .ajax call so that it both POSTs in a format accepted by the web service and does not attempt to validate the HTML response as JSON.
[Code]...
It would seem that I cannot have anything other than 'json' in the dataType, even though from the docs it appears that this only affects the interpretation of the response, changing it's value to 'html' causes the web service to reject the call. I've also tried a converter but perhaps I'm not using it properly. Is it possible to use jquery to post JSON and get back HTML? What configurations am I missing?
I have a site that runs a javascript slideshow automatically when a user visits it. It is designed in such a way that I cannot pre-load individual images for aesthetic reasons. (Also the whole concept makes my brain hurt.) I therefore need 1 of 2 things:
1. A preloader that doesn't show the page or start the slideshow until all the images are loaded. or 2. I could start with the slideshow paused, and when the page is fully loaded, the play command (currently attached to a 'play' button) is 'sent'.
(I'm not techy, so this is the best I can do as explanation.) The latter would probably be more elegant, especially if ultimately I could hide the controls for the slideshow with a loading bar until all the html is loaded, and then show them when the slideshow starts.
When I do a search in the browser (Ctl+F)(with Item2 collapsed) on Element1 the search stops on Item1|Subitem1|Element1 then Item1|Subitem2|Element1. If continue searching it does not find Item2|Subitem2|Element1.
Is there a way for the search to even find collapsed items?
And multiple other divs with similar structure, id="2", "3" etc, I want to access the <p> tags to change style-- so that, for example, the last paragraph in all of the divs would change.
To access the last paragraph, I've tried:
Code:
--which generates an error message that the function itself is undefined.
There's till something I'm not understanding about using node-seekers with classes of tags. But if I can get it right, it saves giving each of the <p> tags a class, which would be easier, but code-heavy.
I have this code that when links are clicked the elements are erased. The issue that I am facing is that I want to update the order of the attributes "id" and "var_id". Basically when you remove the first or the second element to update the order. I am not very savvy with DOM so I have hard time developing that functionality. I hope you guys can help me with that.
<html> <head> <script> function removeElement_e(divNum) { var d = document.getElementById('e');
I would like to know what is the the easiest way to get if the user is browsing internet in fullscreen?I use following code:
var windowHeight = $(window).height(); // returns height of browser viewport var documentHeight = $(document).height(); // returns height of HTML document var windowWidth = $(window).width(); // returns width of browser viewport
i have been working with jquery dialog for a while and am stuck on a new problem today.when i load a dialog, it is running the button functions when the dialog is opened.
I need to link a javascript function to an html button, so that the function executes when and only when the button is clicked. right now I am using the following code:
Why are anchor nodes pointing to href and text nodes pointing to [object]? As anchor and text both are objects therefore all outputs from indices 0 to 7 should be [object].
I've got a script that reads a line of text from a file, and does a bit of parsing to that line into an array. Apparently, this can take some time, so I get the "Stop running this script?" message.From what I understand, I need to use the setTimeout call, but for the life of me can't understand it. When I do add it to some code, it seems to work, but doesn't "pause" the code as I expect it too...
function ReadFile(Fname) { var path = "y:\metrics\";
I have figured out how to load a fragment into a container but "unloading" is not as clear. Suggest how to do this properly? I tried load() with no arguments and unoad() but nothing works quite right...
$('#mood').html always contains the value of the values food_rate and tax_rate had before I loaded the new values in. (Before Line 1 and 2 happen)I already red, about event bubbling and event delegation, but the html-elements fax_rate and food_rate exist from the beginning, and only their innerHTML does change.
