Firefox Never Finishes Loading File / Fix It?
May 1, 2009I'm building a home page with an update checker. A function, called 500 millisecs after the page loads, appends an external .js file and compares a variable on it to a different internal variable. If the internal variable is lower than the external variable, then the update prompt is displayed.
This all works fine, but the status bar says "Read www.primedesigning.com" (the site with the external js), or sometimes "Transferring from www.primedesigning.com". But, if I hover over any link, the status bar goes back to "Done". Also, if I leave my mouse still, wait for the update prompt to appear, and then move the mouse, the status bar says "Done".
I have the Fasterfox extension installed, and it confirms what the status bar is saying. It never stops loading unless I do 1 of the 2 solutions mentioned above.code...

And i found what i think is the relevent code from the Mozilla Development Center, however...i'm uncertain how to put the code together. It's used for chessgames.I want Firefox 1.5.0.12 on Win XP SP2 to show the pgn-file in a frame when I click on the link.That's the first problem: Since I installed some years ago some chessprogram Firefox always asks what to do with a .pgn-file (Download dialog).I know I can change this behaviour either in config:about or in some configuration file for mime types.But how to do that??? (There are extensions for that, but only for Firefox 2 and higher. ): And I would prefer to change it via the about:config-file or in the mime-configuration file, some .rdf-file I think.Then I want to access the plain text in that frame with javascript. How could I do that?(If you need a pgn-file to test, just take any text-file and rename the ending to .pgn.)

Jan 25, 2010I recently upgraded to jQuery 1.4 from 1.2.x and have found that the following code, which previously worked across all browsers, no longer works seamlessly in Internet Explorer:

In Firefox, this code continues to work like it did prior to 1.4, namely, as soon as the user picks a file, the change event fires. But in IE 7 (the only IE I've tested it in) the change event no longer fires, unless/until I click inside the browser window after choosing my file. I'm guessing it has something to do with the event not firing until something (not sure what... maybe the page itself?) gets focus.
Is this known/expected behavior with 1.4? If so, does anyone know how I can work around it to make 1.4 behave like 1.2.x did, where IE's change event will fire immediately after the file is picked without an extra click in the window?

Get Path Information From Input Type="file" In Firefox?
Feb 4, 2009I'm posting this here because I think JavaScript is probably the only way to do it, but if anyone can point me elsewhere, that's fine.
In a bespoke CMS (not a publicly accessible application), I need to let my user upload files that are beyond the server's file upload size for http. I can use PHP to do this via ftp, but to do so I need the full path to the source file, which I could then pass in a hidden field. However, the value of the file input field only returns the filename, not the full path. I understand that this is for security reasons, but is there any way round it?
I've tried jumping through all manner of hoops to try and select the text in the field - which does show the full path of the browsed file - in order to put it in the hidden field, but so far I've failed. And I must do this in FF3 for various reasons.

When I use mouse wheel in Firefox to scroll contents of the DIV, memory usage in Firefox goes through the roof. Code above is a fully working page, if anyone would like to see what's up, just load it up, and start moving your mouse wheel in the area with text. You don't actually have to scroll the text, just moving the wheel back and forth in that DIV will do. Memory usage will start going up quite fast, and after you stop moving the wheel, it will finally come down a bit after a short while. I've highlighted in red the line where mousewheel event is registered for Firefox. I'm not sure if it's really a problem, but since Opera and IE don't have any strange memory usage, and Firefox does, maybe I did something wrong. In everyday use it shouldn't matter [don't expect to have kilometers of content to scroll], but anyway, it is a bit unsettling.

I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..

And if it is within the permitted size, the full file path of the file to be uploaded will then be obtained and then used for the actual upload to the Server.
My program is built on EXTJS and Java, running using Tomcat. Browser restricted to Internet Explorer 7 only.

To be more precise, I guess I am doing something wrong, and with an older version (2.67) somehow it didn't matter.With the old version, the file was uploaded without problems. Now Firefox opens a new Tab on clicking the submit button and nothing is done. Chrome doesn't open a new tab, but also nothing happens. In Wireshark I can see that there is no file attached in the POST message with the older version, the file was sent.My first guess was that my file handling on the server side is erroneous - but on the other hand, when there is no file attached, what should I handle there?

Loading File From Disk - Select A File From A List And Load It Into A Webpage
Jan 1, 2011I am looking for a way to select a file from a list and load it into a webpage. The page and the files are stored on a sd-card for off-line usage, I know that listing files remote dynamicly needs a scripting engine but since the sd-card is on the client side that is not possible, but I can make a list of those files when creating them.
It is intended for a datalogger on a tractor-puller, I create csv files with a bash script on the logger and for off-line viewing I use a javascript charting engine which loads the csv file, the files have the creation date as filename and I can make (and maintain) a list of files when creating them. The plan is that the we can select another data set (run) from within the browser and show that one. I have setup an example at [URL]
