What I want to do is create a HTML form that allows the user to enter data into about 10 fields, and then based on the entered data, writes out data strings to a text file. I am attempting to create a form for entering simple rectangle CAD data via a HTML form, which will be written to a text file, and then imported into a CAD program.
The form would contain prompt boxes for things like length, width, radius size, step/repeat, etc. When the user hits the "SUBMIT" button, the data strings would be written out to the filename the user specified. Below is an example of data strings to be ouputted. Variables are &L, &W, &R, &STEPX, &STEPY, &XN, &YN.
i'm having trouble writing to a text file with javascript, i've tried writing to a local text file on my own PC, and I've also tried writing to a local file on my own server, (which I have all permissions to do so...) I'd really like to write to a file that resides on my own web server. Code:
I heard there is something called XMLHttpRequest that is compatible to all browsers. What does that actually do? Is there something to do with Javascript?
I'm not very well versed in javascript. I'm trying to make a bookmarklet that when I click it will either append text to what I've already written or insert the predefined text at the cursor's position in a textarea. Also the browser I'm trying to do this on is Chromium.
Here's what I have:javascript:void((function(){document.getElementsByTagName('textarea')[0].value='ಠ_ಠ'})())
but this of course changes the entire value of the text field to: ಠ_ಠ...rather than appending or inserting at the cursor position. I'm guessing append would be the simplest, though cursor position would be most efficient.
A pgn-file is a plain text file. It's used for chessgames.I want Firefox 1.5.0.12 on Win XP SP2 to show the pgn-file in a frame when I click on the link. That's the first problem: Since I installed some years ago some chessprogram Firefox always asks what to do with a .pgn-file (Download dialog).I know I can change this behaviour either in config:about or in some configuration file for mime types. But how to do that??? (There are extensions for that, but only for Firefox 2 and higher. ): And I would prefer to change it via the about:config-file or in the mime-configuration file, some .rdf-file I think. Then I want to access the plain text in that frame with javascript. How could I do that?(If you need a pgn-file to test, just take any text-file and rename the ending to .pgn.)
I have seen plenty of online sources tell of how to write to an iframe, that it is a property of "window". But the problem is, the iframe in question is in a frame itself. How do I refer to such an iframe?
Firefox has a Javascript Console that has 3 panels besides "All" and "Clear": "Errors", "Warnings", "Message".
Does anyone know a way to log a message in the Message panel with JavaScript? That would really help debugging. I know there's a way involving XPCOM, but that only works with "trusted" scripts, and scripts loaded thru html aren't trusted.
I am writing a firefox extension and I need to execute a YQL query everytime the user changes webpage on their browser. For now, all i am concerned with is detecting if their is a webpage change. For example. User is on [URL] then switches to [URL] At this point i need to call a function. So far all i can find is an onload=function()Which is only working once when the browser opens up.
i was searching for that script in this forum, but it seems to be lost or removed?
that script was kinda using activex or vbscript it writes a .txt or a file to be saved to a location in the hard disk... (it's not server-side)...can anyone repost that script?
Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:
I have an external .js file to my webpaage. Can i change the value of these variables from my htm page, so that they are changed for good.
ie - i know this wont work, but it is an example.
externalFile.js ------------- var alpha = "This is some text"
frontend.htm -------------- <form name="changer" method="get" action="externalFile.js"> <input name="alpha" type="text" id="alpha" value="this is some new text that will completely replace the old text in the file"> </form>
i've learned how to retrieve Information from a xml file and display it in browser window. My question is, is it possible to write data into a xml file with jQuery?
Does anyone know if I can save part of a web page to a file on the users computer without saving the whole web page? I know I can print part of a web page using style sheets, will this work for saving also?
If not possible, can I use Javascript to program a button the end user can click to save data to a file on their computer?
i have a widget which incllude html script, I am trying to send this widget to people that request it and allow them to use it in their own webpages....I am trying to figure out how to let the person enter information in the "form" and when they press the send button no screen pops up but the information is sent to a textfile in our public html directory....
well i'm kind of new to this website and scripting with javascript but i am wondering: in a client side .js file i have some coding which results in a string which is stored in a variable called exportData
now i want that string to be written into a text file on a server but how do i do that? it is not local on the client's pc and i can't find how to do it anywhere..
I have an HTML page with 3 frames. Lets call them top middle and bottom.
On the top frame there is a button to run some java script! When it is run I want to put some text into the middle frame, but in to a text box on a form call "testform" textbox name is "TestText"
I know I need to address the frame name but what am I missing?
Parent.frames("middle").TextText.value = "here is the data"
I am writing a code to show the user, what data he had entered in ckeditor as rich text but after entering the text while the source is created for it, it is splitting from on line text to multiline text. So javascript is giving a script error. Is there any solution to retain the text in to single line..even if it is entered in multiline??
If I switch the w3schools' file with the same local file, it will not work with firefox.Does anybody know why the local file is not displayed correctly?
I'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1 word2 word3 word4 word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..
I have a bookmarklet which copies a marked set of characters into a searchpage in our dictionary. If nothing is copied, a window opens where you can type a word.
BTW, it is for firefox 2.0.
javascript:s=window.getSelection();if(s=='')for(i= 0;i<frames.length;i++){s=frames[i].document.getSelection();if(s)break;}if(!s)void(s= prompt('some text.',''));if(s){test=open('URL/search.pl?searchphrase='+escape(s));test.focus();} This works well.
We have another search /command which needs to be finished with &search= after the searchphrase
searchphrase="here comes the markedtyped set of characters"&search=
Can anyone of you help me changing the bookmarklet or point me to a site where I can read more about this?
