I am trying to write a bookmarklet that extract a citation information from a web page in a new text file for the client by using javascript.
but I could not find any solution where writing to a text file is allowed with firefox by using javascript.
the application suppose to be run on the client side only.
I have a json file like this :
I want to write a javascript to open this file and then put the years and months on 2 different arrays like that:
my file is located at c:AdminFiles.xml
i tried the following ways
window.open("c:/AdminFiles.xml",'HeavyXml');
window.open("c:AdminFiles.xml",'HeavyXml');
window.open("c:\AdminFiles.xml",'HeavyXml');
in the above i'm getting the following error: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (c) isnt associated with any program"
window.open("file:///c:\AdminFiles.xml",'HeavyXml');
the last attempt give to respond at all...
I've created a web form page that displays a drop list using an
include (text) file for users showing scheduling dates.
This is a sample of the format;
<option value="July 07, 2003, (Monday), 9:00am">July 07, 2003,
(Monday), 9:00am
<option value="July 07, 2003, (Monday), 9:30am">July 07, 2003,
(Monday), 9:30am
Are there examples of how an .INC file can be brought into a separate
web form so it can be edited by another user for date modification or
remomal?
I'm new to Javascript but not new to programming.
I find JS more time consuming because I have to manually search line by line for a single error. In C++ or C the compiler tells me the exact line number of the error or at least what the error is so I can research it.
With JS, notepad or Firefox's source viewer doesn't indicate anything. Is there any software available that will error check JS codes?
I found this bookmarklet which I'm using in Firefox Would anyone here be willing to modify it to display its results in a new tab, instead of using the current tab?
Code:
javascript:q = "" + (window.getSelection ? window.getSelection() : document.getSelection ? document.getSelection() : document.selection.createRange().text); if (!q) q = prompt("You didn't select any text. Enter a search phrase:", ""); if (q!=null) location=("http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q=site:" + escape(location.hostname) + " "" + escape(q.replace(/"/g,"")) + """).replace(/ /g, "+"); void 0
I need this bookmarklet (below) to open in a new window and display the info there. It needs to work in both FF and IE. It would be in one line in the bookmarklet but I expanded it for readability. It should work against our site: [URL]

How could I make this useful dictionary bookmarklet open in a new window?
javascript:var%20t=((window.getSelection&&window.getSelection())||(document.getSelection&&document.getSelection())||(document.selection&&document.selection.createRange&&document.selection.createRange().text));var%20e=(document.charset||document.characterSet);if(t!=''){ location.href='http://translate.google.com/translate_t?text='+t+'&hl=en&langpair=auto|en&tbb=1&ie='+e;}else{location.href='http://translate.google.com/translate?u='+escape(location.href)+'&hl=en&langpair=auto|en&tbb=1&ie='+e;};
Its the "To English" bookmarklet as featured on lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com/5168984/to-english-bookmarklet-quickly-easily-translates-any-text-with-one-click).
I'm not very well versed in javascript. I'm trying to make a bookmarklet that when I click it will either append text to what I've already written or insert the predefined text at the cursor's position in a textarea. Also the browser I'm trying to do this on is Chromium.
Here's what I have:javascript:void((function(){document.getElementsByTagName('textarea')[0].value='ಠ_ಠ'})())
but this of course changes the entire value of the text field to: ಠ_ಠ ...rather than appending or inserting at the cursor position. I'm guessing append would be the simplest, though cursor position would be most efficient.
A pgn-file is a plain text file. It's used for chessgames.I want Firefox 1.5.0.12 on Win XP SP2 to show the pgn-file in a frame when I click on the link.That's the first problem: Since I installed some years ago some chessprogram Firefox always asks what to do with a .pgn-file (Download dialog).I know I can change this behaviour either in config:about or in some configuration file for mime types.But how to do that??? (There are extensions for that, but only for Firefox 2 and higher. ): And I would prefer to change it via the about:config-file or in the mime-configuration file, some .rdf-file I think.Then I want to access the plain text in that frame with javascript. How could I do that?(If you need a pgn-file to test, just take any text-file and rename the ending to .pgn.)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to change which videos I have on [url]. For the speeches video there is [url]which contains only references to speeches.swf.. not speeches.flv which is the video file itself.
I have created new flv's of the same dimensions as the existing ones, but do not know how to edit an swf as to which flv it points to...
I was wanting to use Javascript to detect the edit date on a series
of .jpg files, and return that date in the corresponding HTML page,
as in "Chart was last updated...". Does anyone know if this is
possible, and if so how I would go about it?
I'm using a template from:[URL] Its a beautiful vertical sliding accordion.
I've customized the slider in the link above to be a sliding side-bar menu on my own website. However I don't want any conflicts with the current CSS classes or the original jquery file. So I've created custom CSS & wanted to save the jquery file as another name,.....
but when I preview it in the browser its lost all its functionality..
I'm using an <A> tag with an onclick event to open a window with JS (window.open)... In FIREFOX, if I click very quickly, multiple windows open. Not a problem in IE.

Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.
I illustrate what I need to do using some "dummy" javascript:
Is there any way to disable 'Edit with microsoft word' option in the file menu of Internet explorer using javascript.
View 21 Replies View RelatedCan somebody tell me how I would go about allowing the user
to click on a link to put content in text box A and then another
link to put different content in text box A and so on. Finally,
when onsubmit is fired, all the content created for each individual
link (using the same text box) is sent to SQL Server.
How do I reuse the same text box in this manner?
I'm trying to create two bookmarklets:
1. Take the current URL of the page and open a new window with a URL based on the current page. Some examples (I use "->" to mean "this URL turns into that URL"):I plan to use these bookmarklets in sequence, first pressing 1 to log into the CMS, then pressing 2 to edit the current page.
i am making a website that relies heavily on jquery plugins, i using notepad++ for the creation of the site. for me it is relatively complex (i havent designed websites in a very long time and back then was flash extensive).
my client works very slowly and purposefully and wants his writer to edit the content them self. my concern is making the text easily to find and edit and not being able to damage any of the css, or jquery or html.
what is the best way to accomodate the client needs? i have looked into having it converted to a cms site like joomla but do not know if it is possible or feasible since they like the design but have lots of changes.

What i want is: I have a textarea. When user selects some text and presses a button "[smth]" is added to the begin and end of selected text. How can i do this? It must work on all browsers. The same thing makes daniweb when you format a text (post).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using the breadcrumb script from this website. it's the first one I've found that is working for me! I would like to know if it is possible to have the text that displays for the page be the name of the html document instead of the meta title (because they are too long). Is there a simple place within this code to get the script to pull the file name instead?
example: www.mywebsite/tweezers.html
I want the breadcrumbs to be home > tweezers
But it's giving me home > TDI Precision Tweezers | Electronics Assembly Tweezers | Lab Tweezers | Cleanroom Tweezers

I'm currently designing a form with client-side validation using javascript. I've set the input property to display as the value (for example, "your name" inside the name field) and I've set the javascript to clear value using name.focus but everytime I reselect the field to edit the value, it clears again, so I'm trying to make it so that on the 2nd time it get's selected, the nameClear funtion doesn't run.Here's what I've got so far, but it's not working. For some reason, the else statement within the function that runs on .focus is showing as invalid in my debugger, but it looks fine to me.
name.focus(function() {
if(name.val("Your name"))
name.val("");

I am trying to adapt the addSlide demo 5 [URL] but instead of using buttons created by css I wish to use images.
So I'm largely okay with that, have found the #nav container and defined my background-image images but these are overwritten by textual digits and I'm not sure where these are generated from. Most likely something in my main.js file though I can't figure out what exactly. I'm using cycle as follows:
$(function() {
var stack = [];
// preload images into an array
for (var i = 3; i < 5; i++) {
