Rollover Menus Don't Preload

Jan 4, 2007

I have a bunch of menu buttons that rollover properly and javascript preloading that I THOUGHT used to work but isn't now. It's flickering and reloading the images each time the mouse is moved over top and off, even on the same button. I thought they worked perfectly in the past, but with no changes they're not working today. Code:

2 Dropdown Menus - Make A Form Where The User Is Only Able To Select An Option From One Of The Drop Down Menus?

Feb 11, 2009

I am trying to make a form where the user is only able to select an option from one of the drop down menus and if they click both then submit an error should pop up telling them to select just one. Now I have found this code:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"'>
<!--
function validateForm(){[code]....

the first problem is that my menu must be named "id[2]2" which causes a problem due to the bracketed 2 and the 2 after. Is there any way around that?the second problem I forsee is that this will only work with 1 drop down box being unselected. I need a code that will give the warning if nothing is selected OR if something is selected in both drop downs.

Adding Image Swaps To Page Up Once And Dont Want To Again?

May 6, 2010

i am going to add thumbnail images on the right side of this page[URL]...like found on this page[URL]... also i am going to give the arrows the ability to navigate through the images i asked for advice in a different forum and was told that the image swaps i have in ggallen.html should not be inline as it clogs up the page...makes sense. i would like to know the best way to add the image swap function, or whatever is best for the job, to the thumbnails. also i would guess there is a more concise way of achieving the navigational behavior for the arrows than making separate divs which are shown/ hid on click.

Disjointed Rollover But Special Case Two Rollover States For Image?

Jun 5, 2010

I have navigation buttons that I'll call primary buttons. I also have secondary navigation buttons that I'll call secondary buttons. If you rollover a primary navigation button, it should make secondary navigation buttons 1,4,and 5 go to rollover state A. However, if you rollover secondary navigation button 1,4 or 5 they should go to rollover state B.So the simplest way I can explain it is that the secondary navigation buttons need two rollover states possible.

Dual Purpose Rollover (rollover Image And Iframe Change)?

May 11, 2010

Before, I had an iframe, and when I moused over a link outside the iframe, it would load a page into the iframe. Background image was part of the page loaded, as well as the text and what not. The problem was, the image took too long to load. I've been learning how to do javascript and I came across some code for preloading an image before the mouseover so there was zero wait time. For the past few days I've been trying to figure out how to have the preload image appear BENEATH the iframe (now with no background image or color) with the allowtransparency attribute set to true.

I've figured out the code to do both individually, i.e. I have the code so that when the link is moused over, the new image will appear; AND I have the code so that when the link is moused over, the page with load into the iframe. Both work, both do what is expected, but they don't do it together.Below is the script. Here's where it's confusing. If I have the "setupImgRollover..." first inside the if statement: the page loads into the iframe, but there is no image. If I have the "setupImgRollover..." after the "document.link..." commands in the if statement: the image appears but the page does not load into the iframe.

HTML Code:

window.onload = rolloverInit;
function rolloverInit() {
for (var i=0; i<document.links.length; i++) {
var linkObj = document.links[i];

[code]....

Regular Expression Error In Internet Explorer - Drop Down Boxes Dont Seem To Be Recognised For RegEx In I.E?

Aug 30, 2011

I seem to have come across a weird issue in internet explorer.I've been working on doing regular expressions for a register form, and I've checked it in Firefox, and Chrome and it seems to work for both of them but yet it doesn't work for Internext Explorer 6 - 8.The issue is that the drop down boxes (select fields) dont seem to be recognised for RegEx in I.E. this is causing an issue for me as I want it to work in ALL common web browers as well as keeping the whole form standard.

I've pasted a snippet of code below to show you what I've done.This one below is the original one which just checks if the field entry is blank

function check(theForm)
{
var checker;[code]...

If you have any Ideas about what I can do to make it work in I.E. I would be most greatful. Also if anyone knows how to do and RegEx on a checkbox that would help me quite a bit too.

Preload Many Images

Jul 23, 2005

I have tried several preload scripts found here; plus, some of my own.
The only thing that works is the unsophisticated loading of those
tiny images. The download consist of 100+ images amounting to 50+mb;
and, normally completes in less than 1 minute without preload (using
DSL).

The preload terminates after 6 or 7 images and seems to time-out in the middle of an image. A reload will download a few more, etc. I have used the <body onLoad=function()>
approach as well as the non-function approach of JS that executes immediately with the page's loading. Getting the same results with Netscape-7 and IE-6.

I need to add: The source of the array containing the image references is a '.js' file. That doesn't seem pertinent as some of the images always load.

function MM_preloadImages() { //v3.0

var i,j=d.MM_p.length,a=MM_preloadImages.arguments; for(i=0; i<a.length;
i++)
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}

Then, in the body tag you have the preload:

<body onload="MM_preloadimages('/images/image1.jpg','/images/image2.jpg')">

But I don´t want the function calls to be in the file itself, BUT linked to
an extenal js file.....

Slow Preload For IE

Jul 20, 2005

Has anyone else had this issue? Basically, the preload of images for a
rollover effect for the navigation is really really slow when using IE
6.0 but when i view the site using Netscape, it's fast like it should
be(no lag!)

My problem is that since 96% of users use IE, i need to figure a way
to fix this. Below is the javascript currently being used. The
arguments are passed in before the script is called.

MM_preloadImages(
'<%=assets_path%>/left_nav/manage_view_wthr_on.gif',
'<%=assets_path%>/left_nav/manage_admin_guide_on.gif',
'<%=assets_path%>/left_nav/manage_terms_cond_on.gif',
'<%=assets_path%>/left_nav/manage_reports_on.gif',
'<%=assets_path%>/left_nav/manage_account_info_on.gif',
)

function gn_rollover_preload(){
//preloads middle images for the navigation
if (document.images){
var argLength = gn_rollover_preload.arguments.length;

for (arg=0; arg < argLength; arg++){
eval(arguments[arg] + "_off = new Image()");
eval(arguments[arg] + "_on = new Image()");
eval(arguments[arg] + "_left = new Image()");
eval(arguments[arg] + "_right = new Image()");

eval(arguments[arg] + "_off.src = '" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_"+ arguments[arg] + "_off.gif'");
eval(arguments[arg] + "_on.src = '" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_"+ arguments[arg] + "_on.gif'");
eval(arguments[arg] + "_left.src = '" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_"+ arguments[arg] + "_left.gif'");
eval(arguments[arg] + "_right.src = '" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_"+ arguments[arg] + "_right.gif'");
}

// Now Preload all "corner" images for faster swapping
corner1 = new Image();
corner2 = new Image();
corner2_both = new Image();
corner3 = new Image();
corner3_both = new Image();
corner4 = new Image();
corner4_both = new Image();
corner5 = new Image();

corner1.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner_1.gif'");
corner2.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner_2.gif'");
corner2_both.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner2_both.gif'");
corner3.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner_1.gif'");
corner3_both.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner3_both.gif'");
corner4.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner_1.gif'");
corner4_both.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +
"button_nav_corner4_both.gif'");
corner5.src = eval("'" + ASSET_PATH_HEADER +

Preload An MP3 File

Sep 1, 2002

Want to know if there is a way to preload a song before the slide show starts. Also, would like to be able to show the lyrics 2 paragraphs at a time, timed with the singer so viewers don't have to scroll to see the lyrics. The lyrics are currently just in a table row with the <td> tag. I would have to have a timer start with the execution of the song, and replace the lyric text as the singer completes each verse.

Or, can you link the photo image with the scroll bar so if they scroll, photo will scroll so they can still see it as they view the lyrics.

I really have little idea of what I am doing, and have gotten to where I am by lifting various scripts off the Internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind I am a web designer IDIOT.

Preload All Images

Jun 1, 2004

I would like to preload all images on a certain page, without 'knowing' which pictures are on the page. (I want to write a .js file, put in the header of all the pages)... So, I don't know what pictures are on the particular pages.

Can this be done? If so, how?

Than another question (if the above is possible)... Say, one of the 'found' pictures can't be loaded (it's not in the correct folder)... can this pictures be replaced with another picture? (for instance: pic_not_found.jpg).

Preload Image

Aug 23, 2005

My question is can I use home page preload some images which will not be used for this page, but will be (potentially) used for later pages?

My problem is the home page does not have any images at all, I use following code in head section:

<script language="javascript>
img0 = new Image();
img1 = new Image();
img2 = new Image();
img3 = new Image();
img4 = new Image();
img5 = new Image();

img0.src = "./images/arrowUp.gif";
img1.src = "./images/arrowUp.gif";
img2.src = "./images/track.gif";
img3.src = "./images/drag.gif";
img4.src = "./images/arrowDown.gif";

This cause the home page display nothing.
