I want to add a sort of news service to my site. I've a number of
messages, wich I want to be shown in a <marquee> tag. I've found a
simple scrit that generates an random message (wich I've putted in an
array) and the message is shown in an marquee tag. The problem is that
for changing the message, a reload of the page is required. Isn't
there a way to reload the message? Or every time the marquee tag shows
a message, it will be a differrent message? Or perhaps not using the
marquee tag, but another way to scroll text trough a page? ...

i have a script that is close to working, but not quite. it loads 1 of 9 random images on pageload with the corresponding link on the image. that works fine. i am trying to also get the corresponding copy to appear next to it, but it seems to be totally random as well and not matching up with its proper image (for example, if image 5 loads, then copy 5 should be the one that loads). below is what i have.
HTML Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

I'm going through some "learning by doing" of javascript through trial
and error, and admittedly have a lot to learn. But in taking various
scripts and dissecting them, I still can't figure out if what I want to
do is possible, and that is this:
I'm trying to include a paragraph on my page that is randomly chosen
each time the page loads. This I can do. But in this paragraph I'm
trying to include varied text formatting (parts bold, parts different
color, etc), and make part of it a link.
If I use unformatted, un-linked text, it works fine, but that's not my
goal. When I try including html in the items from which to be selected
randomly, whether by directly specifying the attributes or using CSS
class references, nothing displays, which makes me wonder what of all
this is the problem.

New to JS, and not too good at it. Trying to take some prewritten code and add script that displays some random text. Having trouble with assignment. Instructions are to replace a section of the file I am given with a script element. In the script element I am suppose to declare a variable named tipNum equal to a random integer between 1 and 10 returned by the randInt() function (which I made and have shown below). Then I am suppose to use a series of document.write() methods to write the following HTML code into the page:
<h1>Random Tip<br />title</h1>
<p>tip</p>
(Where "title" is the title of the random text as generated by the tipTitle() function from a external file, and which I did not make; and "tip" is the text of the random tip as genereated by the tipText() function, which is also from the external file, and not made by me) My code for the randInt() function is
function randInt(lower, upper) {
var size = ++(upper - lower);
var randValue = Math.floor(lower + size*Math.random());
}
The script I made to display the HTML code is

I'm using the script below in a custom HTML to generate a random line of text (not with the text shown here). This works fine BUT; I want it to go randomly through the WHOLE list without repeating lines that already have been printed. As it is now, a line of text might be printed several times in a row, which is a little annoying. I'm using a refresh button for generating a new line of text.
How can I just make it display in the order shown and just re-arrange the content so it seems random to the user? Random would the best though...
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
var r_text = new Array ();
r_text[0] = "All the leaves are brown";

I'm looking for a way to have a single, random line fetched from multiple text files, and then have that combination output somewhere, whether just to some field or another text file.
For example:
Text file A -
Text file B -
Text file C -
So it would go in, get a line from each, and display something like:
I know it's a weird-sounding example, but you get the point. The line choices don't have to be separated by hyphens, but they preferably would be separated by something, like a comma, semi-colon, slash, whatever.
I know this is pretty much a web coding forum, so that would be fine if I had to host it on my server or open it with a browser. But it would be optimal if this could be made into a standalone executable.
I'm basically looking for something like Random Line Picker [url], just with the added functionality I mentioned.
I'd be willing to make a little donation to someone if coding this would be a little difficult.

I have used the below code, found on a forum from 2006, to generate a random image on my website with a link and accompanying text.The image works fine, the link that goes with each image is fine.Problem is: the text beneath the image does not match the image and link. This seems to be generated as a separate random element. Can anyone tell me how I can make my site display image 1 + link 1 + quotation 1?

I have a site, im expecting a few hundred colleagues to sign up, they have the chioce to pick a user name and email adress of their choice, but to speed things up a bit I would like set preset usernames and emails in the fields so the user just has to press the enter button.
So for example, my 2 fields will be filled with something like Username: [mysitename]User[randomnumber] Email: [randomnumber]@mysite.com
where my site name is the actual name of the site, and the random number will be different on every visit.

Trying to develop a small app for my site. What is the code to generate a random # of lines (1 min - 5 max) and a random phrase for each line sourced from a multidimensional array? These also need to be unduplicated (so I won't have quote 1 be on lines 1 and 4). How do I prevent random duplication with the generated lines of text?

when I click on a button, it should display below the button a random randomStrings(AAA, AAB, AAC, AAD, or AAE). The problem is that when I click on the button nothing is being displayed. Instead it just re-opens the web page I am on.
How can I get it so that when I click on the button, a randomStrings appears at the bottom.
question 2 is that in the future I want the randomStrings to display AAA, AAB, AAC ... all the way to ZZZ. Is there a shorter way to display the randomStrings than just AAA, AAB, AAC and so on.

I'm having to write a program that generates a random number between 1-1000 and then allows the user to make guesses in a text box, answering to high or to low, until the correct answer is entered. I've looked for a solution to this issue, but it seems like a little different scenario than other situations. I made a system for generating friend requests on Facebook. I have a grid that is 6 x 3, for a total of 18 cells. Each cell has a picture in it, and the picture is linked to the Facebook friend request page. My problem is that since each cell is populated at random from the array, I'm getting lots of repeats. For example, some picutures are in 5 cells, and some are in none. I'm trying to figure out how to make it so that once a picture is used once in the grid, it does not get used again in the same grid.I still want every cell filled at random on each page load, I just want to prevent the repeating.
Here's my current code:
<script type="text/javascript">
var vip_list=new Array(
new Array('http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/v225/1616/88/s1220771654_2158.jpg','http://www.facebook.com/addfriend.php?id=1220771654'),

Code:
var randomnumber=Math.floor(Math.random()*11)
Then make an if statement:
Code:
if randomnumber=1 {
var quote="Live long and prosper"
}
document.write(var quote); Could someone more experienced than me tell me if my code looks good and how would a go about getting "var quote" in my h2 tag?

I am a complete novice when it come to Javascript. I copied the script for displaying random images at a specific interval (from javascriptkit.com). I would appreciate knowing whether the following is possible:
The pages are based on tables, so the parts that change are all cells.
1. Can I define text instead of an image in the array? i.e. can I have the image change to say an apple in one cell and the next cell have text explaining what an apple is?
2. Would it be possible to put a countdown timer for when the image/text is going to change?
