Onclick Not Working If Form Id Has Same Name As Js Object Variable?
Aug 6, 2010
Below is the code that is using the name FFF in various places. The effect of all this is that the onclick function is not executed. I would expect a pop up alert when clicking the submit button. This only happens if I rename either the form id or the js variable. Can anyone explain what is going on here ?

Hey all, I'm using a fairly simple accordion script. When I went to take a gander at the page in IE I found that the onclick function of the script doesn't respond. It works in FF, Safari, Chrome and Compatibility Mode in IE 8
the error message IE gives me is
Message: 'h' is null or not an object
Line: 13
Char: 77
Code: 0
URI: http://proposalfor.us/js/script.js
The problem line (as far as I can tell) is:
this.a[s]={}; this.a[s].h=h=T$$(e,v)[0]; this.a[s].c=c=T$$('div',v)[0]; h.onclick=new Function(this.n+'.pr(0,'+s+')');

I am fairly new to JavaScript, have been using VBscript before and JavaScript comes off a bit illogic...
Anyways, here's what I am trying to do:
function TestFileType(formname) {
fileName=document.[formname].img1.value;
apparently I can't reference a form object like this. What is the correct way of going about it?

I have an input button that calls a javascript function:
<input type="button" name="Add_OpStds_Step" id="Add_OpStds_Step" value="Add Step" onclick="Add_OpStds_Step();" />
The function that is called will add some labels, input boxes, and the things needed for a table. By itself it works just fine, as soon as I wrap it inside of a form tag, the button stops working. I'm using Firefox and Firebug 1.5.4 to assist in debugging and I can set break points in the javascript code. When there is no form tag the function is called, it hits the break point and I can step through the code, but when I add the form tags I get nothing. Farther down the page I have a submit button that works when I have the form tags.
<input name="submit" type="submit" value="Add" />
I have also tested this in IE8 and I get the same result.
The button is part of a page that get dynamically added inside a div with AJAX.

I have defined a global variable for a form, but it seems my functions can't access it. The error I get from the Firefox Javascript console tells me that my variable has no properties. Code:
var giftForm = document.forms.uploadGift;
function sendForm() {
giftForm.target = 'main'
giftForm.submit();
window.close();
}
Everything runs without a hitch if I declare the form variable inside the function.

I am trying to setup a form with radio buttons. Each radio button has an OnClick event. When a radiobutton is clicked the current set of radio buttons will be replaced with a new set using document.createElement("input"). Each new radio button needs the same onclick event addedas in the initial set of radio buttons. I first tried:
element.setAttribute('onclick', MyFunction(value));
This, however, will somehow automatically trigger the onclick event! I searched on the internet and found this as the solution:
var new_onclick = function() { alert("this works!"); };
element.setAttribute('onclick', new_onclick);
This will give a "Object" is undefined error!

i'm not really sure how to explain this, since I know nothing about javascript, so i'll try and illustrate by the use of php (hope it makes sence)
I have a set of different links, like:
<a href="link.com?page=text1">text 1</a>
<a href="link.com?page=text2">text 2</a>
<a href="link.com?page=text3">text 3</a>
etc, where page is dynamic and can be anything I chose..
Another place in the same document, I echo out what the page variable is, like:
echo "$page";
so when clicking "text 1" the echo will output what i've defined the page to be, in this case "text1" ..
So I want to be able to click the links and change the output of the echo all depending on what i've defined in the link - without refreshing the page!
Is there any easy way to do this?

I am trying some simple things with javascript and trying to use it in a object oriented way. However I am now facing a problem in which I can't access an object variable from an object method. I am using jQuery.
My code is as follows;
Code:
My problem is that the variable msg1 does not work when accessed from function called from the jQuery get function. I get the message undefined. Therefore I am wondering, is there a way how I can access msg1 of my object instance from the get function of jQuery?

I am making a small gallery script. When a user clicks an image, I would like for a function to be called that tells the browser where that image is located in an object. For example:

It works, I just don't like it because it is messy and it seems sensible that some workaround exists.

Basically, I have a form with some text fields, and I want to put a button next to each text field, so that when a user clicks on the button, it increments the value in the field by 1. I know how to do it if I know the id of the text field, but what if the id of the text field is a variable? How do I do it? Here's my code:
<script language=javascript>
function process(v){
document.getElementById('order_item' + v + '_quantity').value++;
[code]....
My issue is with my onclick statement:
<input type="button" value="Add +" onclick="javascript:process(0)">
This works fine for my first field, but I need to have one for every text field, so how do I pass my counter variable (which determines the id of the appropriate text field) to the process function?

I am building a site where I want all links to partial page reload using xmlhttprequest and innerhtml. I have done this before, butI always had to have a seperate xmlhttprequest function for each link. So this time I am trying to write just one function, and have the onClick change which document the request is getting. It is not working and I appear to novice to figure out why. Here is the code, i have bolded some relevant lines:
<script type="text/javascript">
function ChangeContent()
{
var whichPHP;
[Code]....
Also, if I use the innerhtml function to write another of these hrefs, will that link be able to access the function if it is in the header, or should I put the entire function in a .js file on the server? The point of all this would be that the entire page never reloads and all the text content is swapped out on demand.

I have created an object called list. the object has a method called load and a method called setSelected (it has more, but they arn't impotant here).
The load method prints out table rows like this:
str+="<tr>"+data+"</tr>";
and in the end, inserting str as the body of a table.
what I want to do now, is have an onclick event for each of these table rows, that calls the setSelected method of the current object. so for example, if I'd write this on my page:
mylist = new list(args...);
mylist.load();
<div id='associated-div'></div>
that if someone clicks a row in the table that is created in the div, the setSelected method of my list oject will be called.

I can't set onclick event properly for OBJECT (flash) element properly. onclick just don't bubble outside flash object. Could this be caused by AS getUrl() function?
I tried to attach thru .htc, tried transparent IFRAME on top of object, etc. Nothing seems to work.
Is there any reasonable way to attach onclick to OBJECT element or flash movie by using JS or plain HTML? Should I do something for event bubbling?

In the HEAD section of the current page I have a global variable named currentfile that contains a file name. This function is also in the HEAD section immediately below the variable's declaration
I have tried every combination I can think of in the onclick code to get it to work but, no joy. here is an example:

I have this web application where users are able to fill out and submit reports. The reports and scripts are part of a whole system, that is, they are used on a couple of different clients written in both vb and c#. This is the web-version of those clients.The scripting language is javascript and is executed using different script engines on the different systems. But for the web-version it is just executed in the browser.The different fields in the report can be accessed by typing:ID1.value. To get ID1 to apply for the input-field with id ID1 I had to in the initfunction of the page write a window["ID1"] = document.getElementById("ID1");
But my problem is when this element change. Cause in the report I have a special element that in the browser is translated to a table-element with a report-field in each cell.When I switch the current row, I need to update the window["ID1"] to equal the correct report field on the selected row. But when trying to access the new variable ID1 from a buttons onclick event it is undefined.<input type="text" id="test" onclick="alert(ID1.value);" />What I think happens is that when the page is first drawn the onclick event is created and as I understand, variables inside an event has the same value as when the event was created.
So if ID1.value was something when the page was created it will be the same when it is called even if the value of ID1 is different. And that seems to be the case. When I debug the page, before entering the event, ID1.value has the correct value while inside the event it is undefined and after the event it has the correct value. If I write window["ID1"] correct value is also shown.But a weird thing is that in another place in the code I had the same problem but instead of having the code inside the onclick event I first had a global function changeActiveRow and inside that I had an eval, eval(document.getElementById("ID1_script")) where ID1_script is a hidden element whos value is a script using ID1.value and that works.
