Floating Layer - While Scrolling - The Layer Flickers Continuously

Jan 30, 2009

I have created a floating layer using Javascript that remains always on top of page on scrolling.Issue is,at some point while scrolling, the layer flickers continuously.

The html page is as follows:

Many common software systems, JavaScript has a history of security problems. Many of these problems could allow a person with malevolent intent to steal sensitive information from a visitor. The number and type of such holes in security vary among browsers and operating system versions. Most JavaScript security holes have been caught and fixed, but new ones are being discovered all the time. For a list of current security holes check out your browser's and operating system's Web pages. As a Web site author, it is your responsibility to keep up-to-date on the current status of known security holes in the applications you create.

Signing Scripts. In Chapter 11, I explained that JavaScript does not provide the ability to directly access files on the client computer. This can be a very large hurdle to overcome if you're trying to upload a file to a server from the client computer. Fortunately, file uploading is one of many functional enhancements that signed scripts provide. Signed scripts are specially packaged scripts that have been verified and signed to be correct and non-threatening. These scripts have additional rights on the client computer that allow a programmer to do many things that he wouldn't otherwise be able to.

With the introduction of Netscape 4.0, a new security model was put in place that would allow digitally signed scripts to bypass some of the restrictions that had previously been placed on them. A signed script can request expanded privileges from the visitor and, with the visitor's permission, gain access to restricted data. A signed script requests these additional permissions through LiveConnect, which allows your JavaScript code to communicate with the Java Capabilities API. The security model allows JavaScript to access certain classes in Java in order to extend its functionality while still maintaining tight security for the client.

A digital signature is a fingerprint of the original programmer, and it allows the security model of the browser to detect where (or from whom) it originated. A script signer can be a person or an organization. By signing a script, you acknowledge yourself as the author and accept responsibility for the program's actions. A signed script contains a cryptographic checksum, which is just a special value that ensures the signed script has not been changed. When a digital signature is detected, you are assured that the code has not been tampered with since the programmer signed it.

Once you finish writing a script, you can use the Netscape Signing Tool to digitally sign it. Signing a script does the following:

Unambiguously assigns ownership of the script to a person or organization.

Allows an HTML page to use multiple signed scripts.

Places the signed script into a Java Archive (JAR) file.

Places the source of the script in the JAR file.

Once a user confirms the origin of the script and is assured that it has not been tampered with since its signing, he or she can then decide whether to grant the privileges requested by the script based on the validated identity of the certificate owner and validated integrity of the script.

JAVASCRIPT FILE IS AS FOLLOWS:

AND CSS FILE IS AS FOLLOWS:

At some point while scrolling, the div 'movable' flickers continuously, while at some other point,it is perfectly stable.

Scrolling Text Works In IE, But Not FF Or Safari?

Jun 22, 2009

I just can't win with this site. Everytime I fix a problem, another arises.[URl].... If you view the site through IE, within the 'Upcoming Shows' i/frame, you will see some scrolling text (bottom to top).

The page that holds the code is www.mrbizness.com.au/updates.asp (the iframce pulls the code)

The problem is, it only seems to work in IE. When you view it in FF or Safari, instead of scrolling the text, it just displays the code. I've been awake for far too many hours, and consumed WAY too much PEPSI, so my eyes just aren't working anymore.

Anybody have any ideas why it would be doing this? I really want to get the site finished and be done with it...I think it's posessed.

JQuery :: Use The Scroll-pane Plug-in To Replace The Ugly Windows Scrollbars

Jan 20, 2011

I want to install jQuery ScrollPane on my site(this one:[url])so I can use the scroll-pane plug-in to replace the ugly windows scrollbars.

Some simple questions:

If I want to use Google's jquery installation, is this all the code I need in my header?

Is there any way to easily test whether the jquery is installed correctly? i.e. a small piece of script that will tell you one way or another?

I found a few examples similar to this online:[url]

When I cut and paste the code onto my page it doesn't seem to do anything (I've either installed that wrong, or the google jquery link wrong, or both).

JQuery :: Get A Strange Error Called:00ce56e?

Feb 4, 2010

This is a support ticket, stating the fact if that IE not support the characte encoding or somehow misinterprets the encoding you will get a strange javascript error called:00ce56e.This will apply on all your ajax transfers for one.For example i had a text/html;charset=utf8 header returned from a php-webservice i wrote. Nice i though, charencoding is the "plant-shit" (Crank quote) and code along and thought to myself, "Damn i'm a witty one". until i started the "IE" beast.. the beast throw out all my claims and the lookout for actually winning this went down. Until i found the above URL.. That is some crackhed shit right there. (Crank anyone?!).What it's stating more or less is that if IE 7 or 8 (or any program that uses whatever that is located in what dll) would more or less shit its pants when it run over an unspported encoding.. In this case UTF-8..

Ok, i'm a swedish guy and uses windows iso latin craptastic charsets more or less everyday but when coding for internationally webpages that are targeting multiple countries you cant get to be staring blindly at your own chars by altering my header to a text/html instead of a text/html;charset=utf8 response to my ajax script i solved alot of strange error shit. (but not my previous post with the fact that IE dont succed even if it would want to, thats a total other question but related but not directly if you get my drift.)..

JQuery :: Malsup Corners - Strange Top Nudges In IE6 And Opera

Sep 21, 2009

I am playing with malsup's corners and I am getting strange nudges on both top corners in Opera, IE6 and Konquerer when applied to nested elements (to achieve a cornered border). I am using exactly the same code as on the demo page: "$(this).corner("round 8px").parent().css ('padding', '4px').corner("round 10px")". Strangely this only appears when the radius is more than 10px and
div.outer's padding is less than 3px. All corners are rounded, just at the top div.outer still seems to have little develish horns.

I'm trying to send a byte array (JPG image) from javascript to a servlet for processing. I'm using Base64 to encode the byte array in javascript, and then a base64 decoder in the servlet to decode it.

The thing is, that even though the String has the same length on both sides, the decoded byte array is shorter then the original one. I've tried a couple of different implementation on both sides, with the same results.

JQuery :: Changing Z-index With The Case Of A Slide Webspage?

Jul 26, 2010

I am desperate to solve an issue with z-index. If you look at one of my examples:[URL]... I am trying to make a website where I have button (menu) and when clicked they slide out a page form the right. The site never changes the whole page it just slides in new content on nav click. This page works well in some aspects. each button slides out a page like I want. One problem is that I want the content to slide out from under part of the background picture and to see all of the content I’d like to mouseover the content and it comes above the bit of picture. If you click on page (portfolio) it does this. Whats funny is this whole concept works in IE (believe it or not) but not in the other browsers. What seems to happen is the z-index’s wont let the mouseovers take affect. I’d like to change the z-index when button clicked so the active content is always on top. The second issue is I’d like to close the open content when opening another content page. I have no idea how to do that in this slider case.

btw (I didnt write the slide function and would not have used <button> but not sure how to make it work from any link, I have tried dozens of different ways to do all this but nothing has worked)

Strange Firefox And IE Work

Dec 26, 2006

I have the following algorithm

1. Show message DIV

2. Long Loop Function

3. Hide message DIV

Opera shows DIV well. Firefox and IE don't show the DIV.
If to rewrite the algorithm like this Firefox and IE will show DIV

1. setTimeout(Long Loop Function,500)
2. Show message DIV

I also tried to debug the first algorithm in Firebug, and in step by
step mode I see that Firefox shows the DIVs.

Is it standart behaviour? What prevents browsers from showing the DIV?
