Javascript To Detect If A Screen Reader
Jul 23, 2005
Is it possible to use javascript to detect if a screen reader is
running a on a users machine?
I know that on a pc, screen readers use the MSSA interface. Is there
a way to detect whether this is operational or not?

I need information (sure, i used google but couldn't find anything useful yet) about automating/adjusting Acrobat Reader using javascript. I need to print multiple documents without having to open them individually and selecting the print option on each document. I also need to adjust the user interface. Sometimes printing is allowed, sometimes it is not. So i need a way to disable (or remove) the print button from the default toolbar.
Anyone has experience (sample code) or documentation i can use?

I have a perl script that i use to render a html page. In that page i call out a stylesheet. If the user has a 800x600 display the fonts are really too big.
Since screen resolution is a function of the client and I have this javascript ot detect the srecc size:
function ck_res()
{
if ( (screen.width != 1024) && (screen.height != 768) )
{
alert(" This graphic is best viewed at 1024 x 768 ! ");
// use a different stylesheet
}
}
How would I go about changing the style sheet that is being called on the page?

Does anyone know the best way to detect and track a visitors screen resolution. I know the javascript to detect the users resolution but I am a bit confused on the best way to track and save this. Should I save it to a database or is it easier to save it to a text file?

I was wondering if it is possible to maximise a screen in javascript.
right now, I use this code:
A HREF="heritage.html" onClick="msgWindow=window.open
('heritage.html','fullWindow','toolbar=no,location =no,directories=no,status=
no,menubar=no,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=8 30,height=630'); return
false" onmouseover="window.status='open site in full screen' return true"
CLASS=TP>open full screen</A>
, but I was wondering if we can fill the entire screen?

I am wondering if any of you Javascript experts can enlighten me on
which event to call. The use situation is that the tetxbox field is
populated from the DB and the add/update and delete will work only when
a textbox for reason for change is entered. This mean if a user simply
type in the same value as before, the ASP.NET textbox will be marked
with changed. But it should not limit that a user can not change the
whole value in the textbox at all.
I have looked at keyup, mousedown, etc. but it will calling the
function after every key is entered and that is what I don't want to
happen.

I am very new to javascript, it is on my list of things to learn... but I have a wide range of other traditional programming languages so I understand functions, etc
however in the mean time I am looking for a way to detect the height of a specific div.
My goal is that I have a div that is set to overflow: auto ,
If the content of the div goes beyond its set height, I would like to make a div visible. So basicly I need to get the height of a div element, and compair it to a pixel number.
To go a step beyond, it would be cool to make the div that is visible when there is scrolling, to disapear once you got to the bottom of the div.
Any ideas?

Download the attached file, rename it read.html and open it. Drag the "read" link onto your Favorites|Links toolbar, and acknowlege the warning dialog. Then, from anyone's page, click the "read" bookmarklet and read along with it.
My basic premise is that vowels and digits make for a place to pause momentarily (90ms) during reading. If it reads too fast or slow, you can adust the delay factor accordingly.
I haven't tested this on other browsers yet.

I'm working on an image gallery and want to popup windows that are the size of the images they're meant to show.
In php I would use getimagesize() and plug the dimensions into a new window but the server doesn't support it so I'm sort of stumped on how to dynamically size the windows appropriately. Any suggestions?

Is there a way to detect with javascript the height and width of a browser window that's open? Much the opposite of a pop-up where you define the height and width I guess you could say - anyone know if this is easily possible?

I have a three tier nested array, used to define a map for a javascript
game, and can be edited within the web page. Is there a way I can
generate a visible copy of this array that I can then c&p into a file? I
think the best solution would be to write into a popup window (this
popup would be purely for map development use, so I don't feel worried
by popup blockers, as only myself would be seeing the popup). However, I
have no idea how to:
a) create the string in a form that a html parser can display as
ready-formatted javascript code
b) generate the popup

Pls help me in getting a javascript code which resizes the web page to full screen.
The solution should not be of popup type as it gets blocked by most browsers now.
Is it possible to
a) send F11 key using javascript while the page is loading.
or
b) Pure javascript which resizes the page to full screen.
Pls take care that the solution also works with Firefox.

How can I write javascript codes to interact with a smart card reader? I have found some activex controls and examples, but I think, it will be limited to IE only.How can I make it run in all browsers, if the card reader driver is installed, and the hardware is available for use?My problem is to make sure that the user puts his/her own smart card in the reader unit before he signs up in a website (a particular website, that I will be coding for).

I have a submenu that expands over the adobe pdf reader addon/plugin. See this basic exampleI need to make it so that the menu stays above the plugin. Currently, parts of it are cut off.After some research I came across the idea of placing an iframe below the submenu to force it to stay on top. As the topic suggests this is called an "iframe shim" and I have been some what successful. See this basic example one submenu is shown on page load because i plan to take screen shots of it) The only problem is that it doesn't work in opera. I have tested it in chrome and firefox and they are working. I can't test it in ie8 at the moment because the plugin for some reason just won't work on the page, however i have tested the approach before and it did work in ie

Can Javascript be used to detect a certain url and then "not" write some html according to that url and also detect something on the page and "then" display some html?.
Example: I'm working on a volusion site that uses asp. There's basically only one page that's changed dynamically. I would like to display some html when and only if the cart has any items in it. But also not to show up on the check-out pages.
The page dynamically displays "Your cart has 1 item in it..." when the visitors puts something in their cart.
So could javascript detect when this is displayed then write some html and then also detect if the url is showing the cart and then not show the html?
