Focus On Row After Select Change

Aug 9, 2011

I have an application where users select a number from 10 dropdown boxes in table rows. The problem is if they choose the last value the cursor drops down to several rows below. What I really want to do is to focus the row and move the cursor back to the row the user just selected. I tried stuff like:
$.scrollTo('table tr.debit');
$('table tr.debit').focus();
$('table tr.debit').select();
But the cursor doesn't jump back to the row and the row doesnt highlight (debit and credit classes highlight the row on hover).

JQuery :: Possible To Select Element With Focus

Feb 23, 2010

Is it possible to extend jquery to include a function that will select elements with focus. In the same way :input selects all inputs :selected selects all selected etc but instead :focus or focused: which would select the focused element. I have a table which includes an input field on each row (like a simple datagrid). Id like to be able to hit an access key and delete the row (input textbox) which has focus ie the row which the cursor has been placed in.

I found this but it selects the first input textbox only for some reason?... and not the one with focus.
$.extend($.expr[':'], {
focused: function(elem) { return elem.hasFocus; }
});
var id = $('input :focused').val();
console.log(id);

JQuery :: Validate - Check <select> On Change Instead Of On Focus?

Mar 6, 2008

I just started using the grate validate plugin today and I can't really find an example of what I'm trying to customize...

Basically, I think it's confusing for a select element to change on focus instead of on change, meaning: the user forgets to select an option, the drop down is highlighted with some CSS, so use selects an option, but CSS error styling doesn't go away until the user clicks somewhere else on the page... A minor gripe, but I'm a big believer of the Steve Krug "don't make me think" school ;)

I'm still not quite clearly on how to implement own customizations of this plugin even after going through the docs...

Moving The Current Focus On A Web Page With Frames Using JavaScript?

Jul 20, 2005

I am designing a website for disabled football supporters and because
of this, I obviously must consider accessibility to blind users whilst
I am producing it - as they are one of the disability groups that I am
targeting the page at.

The page basically consists of two frames; one being a vertical list
of links positioned on the left hand side of the screen and the other
being the main content pane, positioned in the remaining area of the
screen on the right of the first frame. The first frame is used to
drive the content of the second frame.

Now, I'm not sure if this is possible in JavaScript, or indeed in
another scripting language, but what I want to do is to be able to
alter the current focus or caret? on a web page when a link is
clicked. That is, when the user selects a link from the left hand
frame, then the new content is loaded into the right and the current
focus jumps straight to this new information, as opposed to having to
tab through all the same links again in order to put the focus there.

I know this is only a fiddly little thing but it is something that
would really improve the usability of the site, especially with screen
readers in mind.

Focus On Field - IPad Browser Blocking The Focus

Aug 18, 2010

I'm currently making a web application which needs to be fully compatible with iPad. The functions I've implemented so far work perfectly on Firefox, Internet Explorer and other browsers. However, the iPad itself responds a bit different. After a certain action, I want to put focus on a textfield with the help of Javascript. Again, this works perfectly with the normal browser, the iPad browser however seems to be blocking the focus. The reason I'm not posting any code is because it's basically irrelevant. All I do is:

ASP.Net Javascript "focus" Method Needs To Be Called Twice??

Jul 23, 2005

I am using the script below to open a new window and once opened,
redirect to that open window from the original window:

private void btnNewPDFWindow_Click(object sender, System.EventArgs e)

{

string NewPage = "NewPageZoom.aspx";

string ScriptBlockNewPage = "<script language='javascript'>var
NewPDFPage=window.open('" + NewPage + "','PDFPage');";

ScriptBlockNewPage = ScriptBlockNewPage +
"NewPDFPage.focus();</script>";

Response.Write(ScriptBlockNewPage);

}
For some reason, with the code above, I have to click the button twice
in order to get it to focus to the 2nd window again.
Any ideas?

How Can I Search A Select Tag With JavaScript

May 24, 2005

Does any of you know how to create a drop-down list that allows the user to search the drop-down list using two characters, that is, the user will click on two characters of the keyboard which will be the first two characters of the word they are searching for in the list, which will be match to the first two characters of the the first word that has those two characters first.
For instance, we are use to searching in a drop-down list using one character which matches to the first letter of the word first word in the list in alphabetic order.

Now, what I am looking for is to search with two characters; which will match with the first two letters of the words in the list in alphabetic order.

<SELECT> Javascript Alternative

Mar 29, 2006

I am currently recoding my website to perform more efficiently. By performing more efficiently I mean that I will be recoding the server side mostly.

One Particular idea I had was for select boxes. Right now for a page that lists the information for a user (say country of birth for example, which has over 200 option values) the php has to print all the values of the countries in a loop as <option></option>. The reason why it has to print them out each time is because it has to select the users country name.

Considering that there are 200+ values and there are also about 8 other select boxes that also have their information to be selected and printed thru php loop, it can get to be quite a strain on the CPU (when a bunch of users are all doing it).

So I decided to use a javascript function for each box to select the correct option value to be selected according to what the user has chosen beforehand. It generally is the same thing only the client is doing the job and not the webserver.

So what I am asking here is that should I reply on the javascript to do this? I have the paranoia that there will be some occurances where the client doens't have javascript or the version of javascript wont support the DOM features that are used to perform the job.

So for the average browser to be doing something like this, should I still be worried about this or should I go back to using the server side to handle the selected box values???
