Insert <link> Into Html

Aug 3, 2010

I am trying to use the lalit.lab font detector in order to serve different style sheets based on what fonts the user has installed. My problem is that I don't know how to insert the <link rel="stylesheet" href="/stylesheets/css1.css"> into the HTML via javascript. The code I have is something like this (i know it's not actually javascript code):

Code:
if (detective.test('candara')) { // tests if the font is installed
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/stylesheets/css1.css"> // here it should write to the html la link to the css
}
else {
<link rel="stylesheet" href="/stylesheets/css2.css">
}

I found something but it only works with html elements:

Insert A Link Using ExecCommand That Prompts Users For A Title First?

Apr 7, 2009

I am having a problem with my wysiwyg editor for my site, users dont like the fact that you have to select text before you create a link and I was wondering if it was possible to prompt the user to add title text before you use the execCommand('createlink') and use that has the select text that they made from the prompt. Instead of the old way where you must select text first to use execCommand('createlink') to create a link. kind of like Sitepoint's insert link function but instead prompts the user for the title and doesn't insert bbcode but a anchor tag?

Browse Files On Server + Insert Link Into Textarea

May 13, 2009

I'm trying to extent a simple news editor that my company uses. I'd like users to be able to browse the files on the server and insert a link to a given file in a textarea. I'd also like them to be able to assign a class to the link, for different file types (e.g. one for PDF, one for DOC etc), or no class at all. I've seen AJAX file browser scripts and WYSIWYG editors but none that combine these two features.

JQuery :: Insert Html Or Css After Each 4th <li>

I just started to learn jquery. The sitepoint book I picked up and my online research did not yield any results for what I am trying to do.

Basically I have a ul with li in it. I have the ul's width set so that only 4 LI's are displayed in one row and then the next set of 4 gets displayed in next row, etc.

Can I use jquery to simply say 'after each set of 4 li, insert a graphic' .. or insert some html code.

I want a graphical separator between sets of <li>'s

Ajax :: Can JS Insert HTML Into Div

Oct 20, 2009

I have this site that uses AJAX, I have a basic understanding of AJAX and javascript.[code]This is executed with a onclick event on a div tag. The supposed reaction is for the ajax to pull echoed html code (an image and a title inside a <p> tag) from the write2.php page which has no problems and replace whatever is inside of the Div tag with that. The Div tag by the way already has an image and a title inside a <p> tag.[code]

JQuery :: Insert Some Html After A UL Element?

May 17, 2010

I'm working on a navigation menu where I want to insert some html after a UL element.

Here's the statement:
selUL.eq(x+1).after('<b>hello</b></div><div class="subMenu">');
I'm trying to insert it after the following <ul> element:
<div class="subMenu">
<ul

[Code]...

It's like it's trying to auto correct me. I need it to print everything exactly as I have it, otherwise my navigation won't divide into separate columns. Anyone have an idea why it's doing this? If I remove the <div> elements and just use the <b> element it works fine.

EDIT: After some more testing, the After method seems to strip out any closing elements not yet opened (</div>) and automatically closes any elements opened but not closed (<div class="subMenu">). Anyone know of a way to stop this from happening?

JQuery :: Can't Insert Using Html Function?

Apr 23, 2011

I stumbled upon something which may be by design in jQuery for security reasons, it may be the browsers doing it, but... I found that any JavaScript I try to put into the html of an object is ignored. For example, say username is a variable that was already defined with the user's name:

$("#test").html("Hi there <script type='text/
javascript'>document.write(username);</script>.
");

All the script is just stripped out, in both IE and Firefox.

JQuery :: Using $().html To Insert An Element?

Jan 7, 2011

I am using $().html to manipulate DOM elements, as an example:

jQuery('#basic).html(..some data...);

I then alter the DOM using a div and id as part of the HTML document. For example.

<div id='basic>change this</div>

This is absolutely fine when manipulating simple things (like numbers or text such as the above) - but when I wish to manipulate a specific attribute of an element wrapped within a div

<div id=basic>
<a href="I-want-to-alter-just-this-attribute">Link</a>
</div>

How do I do this?

I can't nest the div within the a element :(

At the moment I am using $().html to insert the entire element and its attribute list, but this is very cumbersome,inelegantand fault prone (and doesn't seem to work well using JSON).

I can't seem to find a method to Modify Attribute !!

Insert Multiple HTML Content From A Single Page

May 29, 2011

I have about 10 JQuery Books and they all talk about using Ajax(JQuery Load function) to insert either an HTML page or fragments of an HTML page into another page.

However, amazingly none of these books mentioned getting multiple items using the same function(document.ready).

Here is what I mean. I have a document.ready function which I use to get specific content from a page. However, to get additional items, I need to set up additional document.ready function.

So if I was retrieving 3 sets of content from a page, I will set up my script like this:

Code:

And the HTML

Code:

Is there a leaner better way to do this? Again all the books tells you how to grab a content, which I have done but do I have to create a new function for each item?

Insert Counter Call In External Script Instead Of HTML Page

Mar 5, 2011

I actually use a counter on a webpage (It works). To do it, I use an inline javascript but I would like to unify the entire page and call that counter directly in the external Javascript that manages the whole site.

Here's the actual code...
Code:
HTML
<body onLoad=gen_hits()>
...
<span id='hits'></span><SCRIPT language="JavaScript" SRC="[URL]"></SCRIPT>
...
</body>

EXTERNAL JAVASCRIPT (ini.js)
var hits="HITS ";
function gen_hits() {
document.getElementById("hits").innerHTML=hits;
}

And here a "view" of my request...
Code:
HTML
<body onLoad=gen_hits()>
...
<span id='hits'></span>
...
</body>

EXTERNAL JAVASCRIPT
var hits="HITS " + <SCRIPT language="JavaScript" SRC="[URL]"></SCRIPT>;
function gen_hits() {
document.getElementById("hits").innerHTML=hits;
}
How to modify it ?

JQuery :: Modifying String After AJAX Request To Insert Into HTML Element

Sep 8, 2011

I am trying to add some HTML into a <p> element by using an AJAX request that gets a txt file with my HTML in it. That code works fine but the problem I get is that I need to enter in the path to the file dynamically. I guess I could use PHP on the server for this but I am not sure how (im not too good with PHP yet, but it is installed on my server). C# would work too as I have .NET configured as well (but again I dont know it very well).[code]I would like to replace the "linkHere" with the file path attribute I am grabbing from an XML file.I am doing that like this:$(this).attr('filePath').substr(3).replace("\","/")+$ 9this).attr('label');this works fine to make the path correctly but I need a way to inject this into the HTML/txt file to replace the "linkHere".I have an <img>with an onclick event that calls a function I made to do all this.

Jquery.load Alternative To Insert Returned Values In Different Places In Html?

Jun 4, 2010

I'm currently using this bit of code which submits some form values to a php script which then returns the results into the target html as specified.

Code:
$("#ajax_totals").load("shop/calculate_order_cost", $("#shop_form").serializeArray());

However what i'd like to do is submit the form items using serializeArray but then return multiple items from the php script and insert them in multiple places on the page, not just in the form itself.

I know i could simply use that line of code 4 times over with 4 different html targets but i don't feel it is very efficient or DRY. So i'd like to know the best way to submit multiple values to a php script, return multiple responses and use those responses in multiple places in the html.

Adding Text To Textarea - Create An Additional Button That Will Insert Some Text - Certain Html Tags

Mar 10, 2010

I am creating a small CMS module for a client. I created a little form and when they click Submit, it goes straight out into an include (.inc) file, which is connected to the web page to be displayed.

The trouble I am having is that I'd like to create an additional button that will insert some text (certain html tags to make their life easier, etc) - I got it to work, actually. The script executes and the text is inserted - but once the script runs and the page refreshes (or whatever it does), the text then disappears. The only way I can seem to get it to stay put is when I use "onmouseup" instead of "onclick" - which means that every time the user accidentally mouses over the thing, it inserts the text.
