Imitate Browser Zoom - Change All Content Dimensions?
May 9, 2010
how to imitate browser zoom with javascript?I know you are not allowed to control browser's zoom capabilities, but perhaps there's a way to change all content dimensions with javascript?In firefox, when you press ctrl+, the whole page resizes appropriately, even background images.With this imitation JS zoom, background images would not zoom since there is no scale size numer or anything like that in CSS.It would simply be cool to have a script that resizes everything on the page. That way, you can design highdefinition content that fits a 1280 * 960 browser frame, but can zoom out for smaller resolutions (1024 or 800).

From Implementation Tips - Google TV Web Developer's Guide - Google Code they give the following js snippet.
Code:
function init() {
var w = screen.width;
var h = screen.height;[code]....
what I manipulate in the js to change the zoom ratio? I don't want my webpage for Chrome TV to zoom as much. I'm a designer and have little js experience.

my website[url]... has a pop-up video player but on certain videos (speeches for example) the video is of slightly different dimensions. I can not re-encode the video so I was wondering if I could easily edit a file in notepad to change the dimensions of the player in order to enable the user to be able to see all of the player controls. In the flash folder I have .swf and .flv files. Is there another file that represents the player dimensions/controls elsewhere?In addition to this, if a video is playing and I click off of the video player (onto the greyed out background) then the video player stops. Does anyone know how to stop this happening?

On google maps I have several hundred markers for different countries and cities across the globe. It is just not practical to navigate through several hundred markers therefore I would like my browser to auto navigate to predefined multiple latitudes and longtitudes or cities, once the navigation for predefined cities completes, the navigation loop carries on. Also for certain cities or latitude / longitude can we set zoom level so when the browser is auto navigating it zooms in and zooms out for predefined cities. Is this possible, here is the code that I am using.
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<title/>Apache-Geo-Map Example</title>
<script src="http://maps.google.com/maps?file=api&v=2&key=<my-api-key>"
[Code].....
I can see several hundred markers on the map, rather than navigating between each marker I would like my browser to auto navigate through predefined cities with auto zoom in and zoom out values.

I was not happy with the zoom scripts that I found on the net, so I wrote one myself, or one that simulates it. It has become an extremely simple one, and can be seen in action here (function toggleZoom). Click the images to zoom in and click to zoom out again.However, only the images with an initial width of >= 100 pixels will zoom out again. The ones width an initial width of < 100 (nrs. 4, 5 and 7) won't. Why is that, and how do I solve it?

I am trying to imitate facebook's wall , and it should allow images if needed, instead of words. I know that this isn't possible without server side languages, but I'm just trying it out with Javascript, knowing that once I refresh, all my comments will disappear. However, the only problem is I am stuck on how to make an image show up. I've googled, and I've come to know that images can't be uploaded in a textarea. That is my option one, entitled working.html
OPTION 1(working.html)
-Every comment will be uploaded into one single textarea. My problem is, where do the images go?
OPTION 2 (fran.html)
- Once a commenter posts something, a new textarea will be created using innerHTML, that way, I can use divs to upload the image right next to the textarea.
-Except, this should be vertical, not horizontal, like I have it.
And how do I put an image in from a user input? (The user will type the location of the image in the local computer in a form text box, and once they click submit, the image should upload.) My professor won't allow us to use the input type "file."
Attached File(s)
Working.html (1008bytes)
Number of downloads: 115
fran.html (986bytes)
Number of downloads: 72

The webpage is: http:[url].....On this page if you click on Zoom on the left another image comes up on the right and when you mouse over the square on the left image it zooms the right image.

I have an accordion style navigation bar which works fine, except when the user enlarges the screen with, for example, Ctrl and Plus.You can see what I'm talking about here:http://www.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/igsn/example/Is there any way using JavaScript to detect when the user enlarges the screen?Is it even good style to do this?I've found the offending css rule which makes the menu slow to a crawl in anything but its original resolution, but as this is a template that I have to use, there is not much scope to change things.

When clicking the menu links on my site I want the page main content to fade out just right before the linked page is loaded, this way..
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#topmenu a').click(function() {
$('div#main').fadeOut();
});
});
But when I click the browser backward button and it goes back to the page I was, its content remains faded out, which is kind of awkward.. I just want the page content fading in again if the browser backward button is clicked.

I am interested in using a popup to show flash games in it, so I did then my interest went to make all games playable in full screen so I did that too and got success, but I am facing issues due to wmode, if you visit my this site link [URL] and click on play game for other browsers while using google chrome browser, you will see the error there will be blocks appearing in the game, while if click on play for google chrome then this error is not there, its just because of WMODE, for google chrome button I am using wmode while for all other browsers I am not doing this.
The reason for not using wmode to my other browser play button is that if I add wmode to the games then the performance of the game is highly damaged in fireforx and internet explorer, and also to some extent in other browsers including google chrome. It is that I want to get rid of this wmode=opaque thing as it makes the game slow even in google chrome which is effecting game playing quality, I used window,transparent too but nothing good came out of it. Only google chrome is asking for the wmode, while our step child internet explorer is happy with it. Some more information I would like to provide so that things work fast, I am using blogger blog, I have knowledge of html, xhtml, css and for java or jquery its hint and trial.

when you have a page that contains an iframe, and then navigate inside the iframe, hitting the browsers back button will only affect the contents of the iframe and not the entire page. I've been searching all over for solutions and cant find one that works for my current implementation.
function ShowPage(frame)
{
frames[0].location = frame+'.html'
frame.contentWindow.location.replace(newUrl);

I am using jcookie to store certain information (user cart) and the idea is to re display the contents of the cart when the user visits the website at some other point in future.
So if user adds the item to his cart and i) closes the browser and opens a new browser window after some time OR ii) opens a new tab : In both cases should see the item added to the cart
I am using jcookie.js library.The code I am using to create cookie and add cart contents to it is:
$.cookie('rented_car', $(rentContainer).html());
$.cookie('rented_car_timings', $(divRentalSumm).html());
Also when the page loads, I have in my index.html
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload=checkCookies; </script>
where checkcookies() is defined as follows:
function checkCookies(){
var rented_car_timings_cookie = $.cookie("rented_car_timings");
var $rentTimingsContainer = $('<div class="module">' + rented_car_timings_cookie + '</div>');
[Code].....
Now the problem I am seeing is that the cookies work if I refresh the same page or open a new tab in the same Browser window: I am able to see content added to cart. however, If I open a new window , then I do not see the same .

Say I have a site that's centered on the page, and do $ ("#some_content").slideDown(). If the appearance of the new content means that the page no longer fits in the browser window, scrollbars will appear, and so the available page width decreases slightly, and so my centered content jumps left while it's sliding down. Is there a decent workaround for this? Best I can figure out at the moment is to persuade the browser to always display scrollbars, which isn't exactly ideal.

I have some javascript that works in IE, but not in Firefox:Basically, I just want to replace the contents of a span element. Nothing fancy. But all my google searches come up blank, and I'm having a bit of a brain fart.Can anyone show me what is the proper cross-browser method to dynamically replace the text inside a span element?(I did it originally with replaceChild, but after about 500 calls to the js function, the page reloads, and that is not good.

I want to have an image inside a div section, like a background image. that
adjust its size to the dimensions of div container:
<body
<div class="logo" id "logot">
<img src="logo.png" id="imagelogo">
</div>
a script function retreives the div section:
oLogo = document.getElementById("logot")
but oLogo.clientWidth gets the logo.png's width instead of the div area.
I have no problems with a similar function in mozilla browser,
any idea for IE?

I would like to change the appearance of the URL, which gets displayed
in the title of the Browser, without the page being reloaded. Sounds
strange.. here an example.
The users arrives at www.example.com and in the URL bar of the browser
he sees:
http://www.example.com
I'm looking for some javascript which would change the URL which gets
displayed in the title to:
http://www.ExAmPlE.com
without the page being reloaded!
Is that possible at all?

My site's encased in a pop-up, and since I don't know JavaScript, well, at all, I got some script from one of the many JS sites out there. I'm having an issue with it, though. It seems that different browsers are rendering its size differently, which is a bit of a hassle. For instance, it's a few pixels too tall in Firefox, but in Safari its a few pixels too wide and too tall. So, uh, what's wrong with it?
function popUp(URL) {
day = new Date();
id = day.getTime();
eval("page" + id + " = window.open(URL, '" + id + "', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=550,height=450,left = 362,top = 159');");
}
(...)
<a href="javascript:popUp('dLog.html')">Development Log</a>
Looks messy to me, so if anyone wants to completely fix it up...
