Have Two Input Boxes On A Form Which Receive The First And Last Name Of A User?
Jan 17, 2011
I have two input boxes on a form which receive the first and last name of a user. I want to be able to use charAt() to get the first letter in each box and pass it a third box on the same form. is this doable? May I request some help? I was thinking something like the function below would be the starting point --I stand correct, as it is not working.
<script type="text/javascript">
var str="Mossa";
<!--document.write(str.charAt(0));-->
document.write('<INPUT TYPE=text size=2 VALUE="str.charAt(0);">');
var str="Barandao";

I am trying to use a code snippet fromthe code works fine however what I want to do is modify it so that when the user clicks the link to add another entry their would be a drop down <select> box to the left of the text input box. Which I have working but each time the link is clicked to add a new <select> and text input box row the previous <select> dropdowns seem to loose their values and only the text input boxes keep their values. So I am not sure where/how to edit my below code to work properly
Code:
below javascript controls the functionalty of the script
var arrInput = new Array(0);

Somebody asked me if it would be possible to add auto-advance to a web
form where there are a lot of repetitive 5 character fields. I took a
look around the web and found a script, which appears to work in the
couple of browsers I tried it in. However, when I look at the script it
appears to have the wrong number of brackets. Then when I changed the
script to the way I thought it should be, it still worked!
I'm totally rusty on javascript. I think I remember that you're allowed
to omit brackets when you only have 1 line following the if (or while,
or whatever).
A couple of questions:
Are the brackets in the original script below wrong or am I missing
something?
Can anyone recommend a different auto-advance script?
Or, is auto-advancing a bad idea all around from a usability/accessibility point of view?....

i'm building a website at the moment with a user registration form. something i struggle with everytime is the best way to give feedback to the user (e.g. further instructions for a particular field or error messages).I saw a very nice execution of this recently at this site. /user/register - this looks to be a custom job, but i'm curious is the open-source or even paid plugins that do a similar thing.

I need to pass user input from a form to one database field. I'm relatively new to JS but the idea I had was to have several form elements and use JS to collect the users input and send all the values through a hidden element. What's happening is the variable names are being sent rather than the values. The code below is only passing to the next page. Limitations: I am editing an intranet site built by a 3rd party so a lot of the files we've been given are encrypted. I cannot change the method to post.

The purpose of these scripts are to allow you to send forms using javascript. If your server doesn't support scripting languages like php or perl, or if you are unfamiliar with those languages, then this is an easy alternative for you.
When you send a form using the mailto: command, the data gets sent using the post method and in the process gets reformatted. When you receive the form data in your email it will contain hexadecimal characters, spaces will be replaced with + signs, and each value will be separated by an & sign.
You have two options when sending a form with javascript. Either you can reformat the data before it's sent. Thereby creating an email that is legible upon receiving it. Or you can reformat the data after you receive the email. I have posted both methods on this page.
Option 1: REFORMAT AFTER
Create your form using the following syntax:
<form name="NameOfYourForm" method="post" action="mailto:yourname@yourdomain.com">
<!-- your input tags go here -->
<input type="submit" value="Send">
</form>
Then download the attachment to this post. Open the file in your web browser. When you receive the email containing the form data, just select it all and copy it. Then paste the data into the "hexadecimal value" box. Click decode to convert it to ascii. Then click split to remove +'s and to split data onto multiple lines. Use the "add html" checkbox to make the output viewable in your web browser.
NOTE:
The first input tag that you use in your form will become the <title> if you use the html option. So if your first input tag is name="Name" value="Joe Smith" then the html title will appear as <title>Name: Joe Smith</title>.

I have a form with a select field. Depending on what is selected in this field, I want to display or not display another select field. For example first field asks the user if they drive, if the user selects "NO" the form doesn't change. If they select "YES", another field appears with different makes to chose from. If they change back to "NO" the second field dissapears again.

This is probably easy, but I flipped through the first 100 posts and couldn't find a similar question.
I would like to set up a form with multiple radio boxes in a table. The first row containing two selections, second containing 2..... Once the 1st row/column is selected, the 1st row/2nd column automatically displays the information from the first selection.
I am not necessarily looking for exact code on how to do this, just reference points to go to, and preferably suggestions on the best(meaning quickest) language to do this with.

I already have a Date Picker which works well also I have a very dynamic field added.
is it possible to use another JavaScript inside another script as one seems to corrupt the other?

I have a form that collects information about up to 5 items. I would
like the user to be able to select from a drop down menu how many items
for which they want to compare information, and then have the form
change the number of input fields accordingly.
In other words, if the user selects enter info for 3 items, then input
fields for only 3 items are shown, if they change it to 4 items, then a
fourth column shows up in the table with the appropriate input fields.

I'm just starting up in web design and I have an interesting challenge that I'm hoping can be solved w/java script. I have a site with an application form. When the form is to be submitted, the form data needs to be emailed to the correct person to handle that particular application. However, that can't be determined by anything specific in the form. It can only be determined by the link that they clicked on to get to the form. I really don't want to have 22 identical forms with just a different EmailTo addie, which is what the previous site developer did. Someone please tell me this can be done w/java script? If not w/java script

I found this forum while running out of ideas and being extremely desperate to fixing a probably small javascript error in a script. the script is supposed to open a small form window that allows the user to input an email address and update it to proceed. the form item is initially unchecked, but as the user clicks it and enter his email address, it updates the value of the email address and the box becomes "checkable". the problem is that with both IE and firefox, the box doesn't close again, doesn't get checkable and basically doesn't work. in the firefox debugging console, I found the following error:

The part responsible in the javascript for this section is:

I have a table (not in a form) that has several input text boxes. I want to have a reset button that acts like the form RESET button. I thought I would use the following jQuery method:
Here's my reset button code:
Here's one of my table input lines:
I thought this would be simple, but I can't seem to figure out how to target the text that the user types into an input field before he/she decides to "reset" and start over.
I'm thinking that my problem is that I can't find the correct syntax for my line: $('input.firstname').value('')

Like this select something and then at the same box change the selection you will see the code will build up boxes on the screen.. How I do for it not happens if the user change the option in the last box, the one before disappears!
