Get Text Input To Be Used As A Reference To An Image Src?
Oct 3, 2010
I've been looking for a reference to my situation for two days and i can't find any that are relevant enough.
I'm trying to accept text as a URL for an image source. I then display that image in a form with the use of a <button type=button onclick=codeThatGeneratesImage > type thing.
function addImageToForm(formID) {
//get a reference to the form
var formElement = document.getElementById(formID);
//get a reference to the element that contains the url
[Code]....
i know that the bottom half works because i tried it with just a reference to an image directly and it worked.

I have a page with an iframe where I've placed few images. I want to create onMouseClick event which will put clicked image's url into Input Text element in parent frame (main page frame) and at the same time it will put image itself into some <div> or <img src> element (if possible) or maybe in some other small iframe, created for this image.
Is that possible to do using JavaScript (with function)? If yes, how can I do that?

I have a bunch of forms in my page, and want to pass a reference to the current form to a javascript function - when, say, a user clicks on a particular element. Normally, within any type of input field, I'd just add something like this:
onclick="my_function(this.form)"
Then, in my_function( form ) I could refer to form. No worries.
But here's the interesting bit. I also want to run the same function when the user clicks on any <a> tag within a form, like:
<a href="javascript: my_function(this.form)"> ... </a>
Problem is, with this code, the form reference isn't passed to the javascript function. the "this.form" bit doesn't work...
I find this rather curious. So the question is, how do I pass a reference to the current form from within a non input field?

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

I am running some javascript code which generates a popup window associated with a spell checking program. The way the program works, is that it takes the text out of a text field (passed as an object), spell checks the string, then puts it back into the text area field.
My text area is located within a flash form, and I am having trouble pointing to it. I am sure my spell checking program is working, as it works fine if I point to an html text area. Do I have to do something special to point to a flash form object?
Here is my code:
<!--- Source the JavaScript spellChecker object --->
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="../Spellchecking/spellerpages-0.5.1/speller/spellChecker.js">
</script>
[code]...

I'm having an issue with a javascript image slider that I downloaded and have implemented. You can see the page I am working on here...[URL]. And the script is at [URL]. It works fine on my Mac browsers, and then fine on Windows Firefox, but it's when I try it on IE it breaks. Or rather doesn't even show up. The other issue I've occasionally noticed is that an image won't load and shows as a broken image link, even though the image is there and is referenced correctly. This is an issue across the board, and only happens randomly.

so I have a html page with the following code included in it:
[Code]....
how would I reference the contents of the text box in a separate Javascript file? I have tried document.form.UserInfo.value and many, many variations and just can't get it to work. I presume it has something to do with the paragraph having the same name?

I am looking for a version of lightbox that would allow the user to click on a single reference image and when the "lightboxed" version appears a strip of thumbnails would be available at the top or bottom of that image. Thus, the user could navigate between images within the lightbox by clicking on a different thumbnail. If such beast exists a URL would appreciated. Extensive Googling hasn't turned up what I'm looking for at all.

I have taken a class on PHP and started making some math homework and drills for the tutoring I do. I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLets say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.
Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?
FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

I have the following HTML/CSS:
HTML:
<div id="stealth_form">
<form name="stealthme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='password' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>
<div id="search_form">
<form name="searchme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='text' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>
CSS:
#search_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: visible;
}
#stealth_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: hidden;
}
OK. I use javascript to dynamically set the visibility of #search_form
to 'hidden' and the visibility of #stealth_form to 'visible'. In
mozilla/firefox there is no visual difference. In IE the #stealth_form
input box is 1 pixel wider, and when the change occurs it catches the
users eye and looks strange.
Any ideas / workarounds? I know this is off topic for this group, but
most on this group know an awful lot about HTML / CSS, and I thought it
was worth a shot.

This is in includes/search.php
Code:
<input type="search" name="search" id="search" class="search" autocomplete="off" />
And I am using JQuery to listen for it, here's my JQuery Code, I called it in and everything.
This is in js/jcode.js
Code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#search").onchange(function(event){
event.preventDefault();
alert("x");
});
});
And I am calling all: JQuery.js, jcode.js, search.php, into index.php to load it all

Using a UI dialog I'd like to load in 10 or so images. Each would be unique and after you click on one the following needs to happen:
1. Image appears on the parent page in a specified ID.
2. A "hidden" field is updated so that when the user submits the db is updated with their selection.
3. Dialog closes automatically.
That's it. Basically it would work similar to "datepicker".I'm using the latest 1.4 and ui and been making great progress as learning basics. I need to do the above and it seems like such a no brainier and or it should already exist but after 2 days of searching and trial and error...

Is it possible to have a text box input searching for the entered text on another webpage in the same way Find In Page would do? I have a webpage that I want users to input an item, and that this will open the targeted webpage and bring you to (and highlight) the matched item(s) like find in page does. Is this possible or is the easiest way to just make users open the link to the target page and just complete the find in page search there?
