Empty String In An Xmlhttprequest.send()?

Jun 10, 2009

i have a problem dealing with an xmlhttprequest with the POST method: i receive a string from a java applet in my page and i want to use this string as a post parameter to send an xmlhttprequest, but once i send the request the string becomes empty. i put some debug alert before invoking the send method and they show the string properly. the string comes from a new String(byte[]) in java, so i thought maybe there's somethinig related to the charset?

I'm trying to get an xml file using an xmlhttprequest with the GET method. My request works fine with any browser except internet explorer. This one send no http request at all. (using wireshark to monitor).I thought about a caching issue but it should work at least once.

My code is the following:

var req;
var xmlDoc;

Send Binary Data With IE 7's XmlHttpRequest

Sep 18, 2008

I'm reading the content of a local binary file with the method mentioned here: [URL]

Then I'm getting the data as a string where each character represents the binary value. I have successfully sent that string with Mozilla's XmlHttpRequest's sendAsBinary method, but IE 7's version doesn't have that method...

Using the send method almost works, the only problem is that binary content can be represented as the asciicode 0. This means that the string read by sent is cut off as soon as it is encountered. That means that the part before the first NULL character (asciicode = 0) is successfully sent to the server.

The solution I have made right now is to increment each character's asciicode on the client side by one and decrement them on the server before converting the character to the binary representation. The downside with this is that the size of the data sent between the client and server gets larger than the original filesize. Ex: 8kb file grows to ~12kb.

Why Is My BackgroundColor An Empty String ?

Feb 8, 2010

I'm trying to compare a <div> background color with another color. However, on FireBug, I noticed that my <div> doesn't have a background color code in it (I placed document.getElementById(o) on watch), even though I have already specified on my css. As a result, I'm comparing an empty string with another color code. Why is this so ?

Javascript:

function highlight(o) {
var color1;
color1 = document.getElementById(o).style.backgroundColor;[code].....

Ajax :: Always Displaying Empty String

Aug 13, 2010

So I'm having some issue with an ajax call I'm making. The success always returns an empty string no matter if what the php function returns. It seems that looking in firebug the function is called and I've tested it by sending myself an email. It just happens that it is always an empty string. And I am very confused because I developed it on my local server and it worked just fine.

I just started with jQuery and it is driving me nuts:-) Each time I think I am having it well i am testing and the variable passed through gives an empty string.
My code:

JQuery :: Serialize And IE 7 And 8 - Returns An Empty String

Dec 21, 2011

I have a form with an id "modClassForm" when I try:$("#modClassForm").serialize() it returns an empty string ("") When I get the action attribute it's right so it is the form I was expecting. When I do the following:

$("#modClassForm input").val()

it returns "retret" (the contents of the input element in that form). So what is doing this? The only thing I can think of is that this form is loaded from ajax and then placed in the page using the .html(htmlString) method which is rather core to my design. This works in a whole lot of other browsers (IE 9, FF 6-8, Chrome 13-15 and Safari 5). So I know I could try to serialize the fields myself, but the form content has two modes and I'd have to construct a fairly large string and I'm not sure about encoding. Is there any other way to make serialize work? Some way to get it to recognize the contents of the form?

Regular Expression That Tests A String To Find Out If Not Empty

Jun 25, 2010

Just a quick one here I want a regular expression that tests a string to find out if not empty. I am currently using /^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/ which allows all alphanumeric characters, however unfortunately does not allow white space. As I am trying to use the RE for a form name input and I don't wish to separate first and last name, I want to allow users to enter their full name including spaces. Can anyone tell me an RE that allows all alphanumeric characters and white space in a string but does not allow an empty string

Oo Xmlhttprequest

Mar 13, 2005

Yesterday I started rewriting the xmlhttprequest functions to an oo equivalent, but as it turns out, I don't get it right:

Code:

function Request()
{
this.req=init();
this.req.onreadystatechange = this.processedRequest;
//addEventHandler/attachEvent alternative
//doesn't work either

function init()
{
try
{
if(window.XMLHttpRequest)
return new XMLHttpRequest();
else
return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
catch(e)
{
alert(e);
}
}
}

Request.prototype.send=function(url)
{
this.req.open("GET", url, true);
this.req.send(null);
}

Request.prototype.processedRequest=function()
{
if (this.req.readyState == 4)
{
if(this.req.status == 200)
{
response=this.responseXML;
res=response.getElementsByTagName('result')[0].firstChild.data;
func=response.getElementsByTagName('feedTo')[0].firstChild.data;
eval(func+'('+result+')');
}
else
{
alert(this.req.statusText);
}
}
}
expected usage:

Code:

var x=new Request();
x.send(url); //the processing function
//the eventtrigger should activate the callback function
//when the xml has been returned

It seems like the problem is that I don't get to my "this.req" in the processedRequest function. Can anyone see where the problem lies, it has been turning me crazy all weekend already.

XmlHTTPRequest Problem

what i want to do is have the browser access another part of my site

however, when i use xmlhttp.open("POST",
'http://xml.mysite.com/test.php')
it fails, but if i use xmlhttp.open("POST",
'http://www.mysite.com/test.php') it works. Is access to another url

XMLDocument And XMLHttpRequest ?

I have something like this:

var xmlDoc=document.implementation.createDocument("", "", null);

but in opera xmlDoc.load(...) won't work, so I use:

XMLHttpRequest, and I have all needed code... let's say it works...

So I got serviceRequest.responseXML and is there a way to initialize xmlDoc
in my case ? I am asking because I have code that uses xmlDoc.load(...) in
FF and all code that's need to futher work with XML written. So this would
be comfortable for me to use xmlDoc instead of creating everything from
start.

What's going on ? What is the workaround ? I've tried this:

but it does nothing ... even if it did work it would not be distinguishing "

XmlHttpRequest Is Not Working

I would like to use the xmlhttprequest-object to send an http request
to my server. The http request is used to switch the light on through
home automation.

However it's not working, and I can't find the problem.

Could it be that the apache-server is located on 192.168.0.21 and that
the http request is sent to 192.168.0.21:8080?

XMLHTTPRequest Compatibility

I'm working on an application that uses ajax and we are going to have a version that people with browsers that don't support the XmlHttpRequest object. My problem is what's the best way to check this.

I have tried the following

var xmlreq = new new XMLHttpRequest();
if (!xmlreq){
// handle the browser stuff
}

In netscape 4.7 this results in an error that I don't seem to be able to recover from and I don't think this is the best approach to this problem.

Problem With XMLHttpRequest

May 21, 2006

I'm loading a javascript within a webpage on domain A from domain B like this:

Code:

<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript" src="http://domainB/path"></script>

Works perfectly, the script loads and executes. But calling XMLHttpRequest.open accessing Domain B from within this script doesn't work: Permission denied.

Now, I know of the cross domain security rule, but why can I load a script from Domain B, but not make a request with XMLHttpRequest to Domain B? Alle the counter scripts do exactly this... Any advice?

XMLHttpRequest And Firefox 1.5

Dec 12, 2006

I'm using Firefox 1.5 and FCKEditor in a CMS app. Everything works in older versions of Firefox but in 1.5 I get a javascript error saying that the XML file holding the styles can't be loaded. Here is the code where the xml request is made:Code:

FCKXml.prototype.LoadUrl = function( urlToCall )
{
var oFCKXml = this ;

var oXmlHttp = FCKTools.CreateXmlObject( 'XmlHttp' ) ;
oXmlHttp.open( "GET", urlToCall, false ) ;
oXmlHttp.send( null ) ;

if ( oXmlHttp.status == 200 )
this.DOMDocument = oXmlHttp.responseXML ;
else if ( oXmlHttp.status == 0 && oXmlHttp.readyState == 4 )
this.DOMDocument = oXmlHttp.responseXML ;
else
alert( 'Error loading "' + urlToCall + '"' ) ;
}

Everything works in IE but Firefox just gives the error that is set in the final else. Any ideas on how to debug further or fix (preferrably fix).

XMLHttpRequest() And Persistent Connections

Jul 23, 2005

I have a web app, written in Javascript, that communicates to a back-end
server via XMLHttpRequest.

The logic goes:

* Login
* Perform transaction
* (delay while the user does something)
* Perform transaction
* ...
* Logout

It would be really convenient if I could make the whole thing a single HTTP
connection. That way, I avoid needing IPC and session management at the
server end, and a single instance of a CGI script can represent the entire
session. When the socket gets closed, the CGI script terminates and
implicitly logs the user off. All very simple.

Can I use HTTP pipelining with XMLHttpRequest to do this? The docs seem to
say (it's quite hard to tell) that I have to call open() after each send(),
which will presumably create a new HTTP session. Can I 'persuade' the
browser to reuse an existing session?
