Dynamically Create A Page Based On Information In A .txt?

Oct 23, 2009

I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I'm relatively new to javascript. I am trying to dynamically create a page based on information in a .txt. So far the code works. But only for a spacific line in the .txt. I would like it to create numbered divs and fill with approprate info from .txt for each line in .txt. Does that make sense? I will paste full code if necessary and it is explained exactly how. Is it: ["my code goes here"] or

Dynamically Showing Information

Mar 25, 2004

Is there a way of dynamically showing information from a sql server database in a web page without doing a postback.

My goal is to display information from a sql server database everytime the underlying table has received a change. I will also need to have the ability to format the cells based on the information being populated.

If anyone knows of any technology on this topic, or has attempted to do something similar please respond. Even if it's not quite what I'm looking for, the advice given may spin me in the right direction.

It is my belief that this may require creating this web page through a sql server wizard that offers the ability to watch the table for underlying changes. However I am not so sure about how I would then format the information displayed. Has anyone used this technology before?

JQuery :: Submitting Information Based On Which Form Was Clicked

Dec 8, 2010

I've been doing PHP for a couple months, but just came across jquery today. I'm making a wedding-registry-style wishlist site for the holidays, and one of my pages is a list of all the items on your wishlist for you to modify.

Here is my jquery script, which I had learned from a tutorial:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$(".submit1").click(function() {
var item_name = $("#item_name").val();
var item_notes = $("#item_notes").val();
var imgid = $("#imgid").val();
var price = $("#item_price").val(); .....
var dataString = 'item_name='+ item_name + '&imgid=' + imgid + '&price=' + price + '&item_notes=' + item_notes;

$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "edit.php",
data: dataString,
success: function(){
$('.success').fadeIn(500).fadeOut(500);
}});
return false;
});
});
</script>

My forms are structured like so:
// PHP WHILE STATEMENT
// Retrieve data about item
<form>
<input type="hidden" name="imgid" id="imgid" value="<?=$imgid?>">
<input name="item_name" type="text" id="item_name" value="<?=$item_name?>" />
<input name="item_notes" type="text" id="item_notes" value="<?=$item_notes?>" />
<input name="item_price" type="text" id="item_price" value="<?=$price?>" />
<input type="image" class="submit1" src="images/edit_item.png" border="0" />
<span class="success" style="display:none">Item updated!</span>
</form>
// END WHILE STATEMENT

Now, the problem is obviously that when this HTML code gets repeated, all the forms have the same input IDs. I tried adding numbers to the form using php, so it would be something like "item_name1", "item_name2", "item_name3", etc depending on the form, but then I realized I don't know how to pass parameters into the jquery function.

Is there any way to do this? So that it's something like...
$(function() {
$(".submit1").click(function() {
// Find parent form (which would have the ID "1", "2", "3", etc.)
// var id = parent form ID
// Get info from "item_name1" if form "1" was submitted
// Get info from "item_name2" if form "2" was submitted
// Etc.
var item_name = $("#item_name"+id).val();
var item_notes = $("#item_notes"+id).val();
var imgid = $("#imgid"+id).val();
var price = $("#item_price"+id).val();
// declare datastring
// ajax
return false;
});
});

Dynamically Set The Height Of One Div Based On That Of Another

Oct 3, 2006

I'm trying to create the following visual feature on my page (www.enviromark.ca/Collab/study.html). if you notice, there is a border-right: 1px solid grey; on the 'links' div. I would like to do the following:

onload, i would like the height of the 'links' div to be saved into a variable
i assume this would be done using a variation of 'var minHeight = document.getElementByID('links').offsetHeight'
onclick, i would like the height of the div about to be loaded (aka unhidden) to be saved into a variable... say var newHeight for ex.
IF newheight > minHeight, set document.getElementByID('links').height = 'newHeight' + px;

here's how i tried to code it:

<script language="JavaScript">
function setBorderHeight(divName)
{
var minHeight = document.getElementByID('links').offsetHeight;
var newHeight = document.getElementByID(divName).offsetHeight;

if (newHeight > minHeight)
{
document.getElementByID('links').style.height = 'newHeight' + px;
}
}
</script>

here's an example of a link:
<a class="mainLinks" href="learnMore" onclick="setBorderHeight('learnMore'); ball(this.previousSibling); return toggle('learnMore', 0);"
onmouseover="zxcMseOver(this,1);" onmouseout="zxcMseOver(this,-1);">Learn More</a>

what went wrong?

Get Information Using XMLHttpRequest On Page Load?

Jan 28, 2010

I am currently learning AJAX, and I want to write an simple example program (it is only for practice, it has no real meaning).

The program sends request to to PHP and gets response from it, then it should write the response using message box, all should happen on page load. I wrote the following code:

function init(){
myRequst = new XMLHttpRequest();
var url = "http://localhost/dummy.php";
myRequst.open("GET",url,false);

[Code]....

I don't see any message box when the page loads. When using it after the page loaded with other events (not onLoad), it works and I see the message box with the response.

How can I get the data on page load using XMLHttpRequest?

This code also generates a page last modified date... but I did figure

Can Dynamically Resize Image Based On Window Size

An example of the resizing of an image can be seen here as well as at most photography galleries that are full-screen. You can see the size of the image change by shrinking your browser window. I want to make that gallery using javascript. I already have the ability to make a horizontal slider with left/right navigation - that part is easy. I just have never done anything with dynamic image sizes.One thing that was brought up to me already was the ability to shrink the browser window to fit.
