Everybody knows how a dropdown menu works where a person clicks on the drop down menu and it displays a drop down list where the user can select an option from the list. What I want to know is that is there a way in html where except displaying a dropdown list can I display a grid instead with the options in the grid?

I've never worked with Ajax before but I've been reading up on it and done some basic tutorials and am comfortable with the concept of asynchronous communication and how everything works from a technical communication perspective. That being said I have no idea where to start on this project which seems like it should be fairly simple. 1. the browser will have a "working area" which is a rectangle of some decent size, there will be a toolbar of objects on the left hand side. This work area should be shown as a grid that the objects will be placed into.The size of this grid (basically the gridlines) will need to be generated automatically based on user input (also the size of the components/objects that will be dragged in and the size of the rectangle) if it is too large (say 500) i'd like a way to pan around and zoom in as well... 2. For simplicity say there are 2 components: Available, unavailable and an erase feature. 3. each object when dragged to the working area should create an object that has some properties (handled programatically from input elsewhere on a simple form) I will be placing these in a database server side. 4. I'd like to be able to drag across the grid to continuously add the selected object and I'd like to be able to click a button on the edge of the grid to fill in the entire row with the objects. From everything I've read on this it seems like this should be somewhat easy but again I don't know what framework to use to start. I'll be putting this in a drupal site and integrating it with a few modules if that makes a difference (i think that part of the programming will be separate from whatever specific implementation I use to get this Ajax part up though)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a PHP script that will get images out of the database and display them in a grid. I have two verisons. I save a thumbnail which I display and then a larger image in a different folder. These images are placed in a scroll bar but what I would like to happen is that when I click on a thumbnail it basically displays the bigger image until I click on that image and it goes away. I would love for the middle of the image to be displayed in the middle of the users screen but beggers probably can't be choosers in this case.
An example of a similar desired result is a link here:http://qrayg.com/experiment/hig/Instead of the hover, I'd like to utilize the onclick to display and remove the image. If it's easy to put the center in the center of the screen that that would be absolutely incredible as well.
I have a question for flexigrid jquery grid control users.
I am able to display json data returned from my WCF service in my Flexigrid in my application.
The paging toolbar displays correctly and it's clear that the paging toolbar understands how I've configured it.
However, the grid is not actually implementing the paging filter on the data in the grid. For example, the paging toolbar says "Displaying 1 to 10 of 12 items". However, all 12 items are displayed in the grid.
I guess I'm missing a config setting or callback. Any idea what the problem might be?

I am building a store and want users to be able to see how two items look together. I have it working, but it uses a drop down. I would like to display many items and have the user click on one "image", from the display of "top" images, to display it on top, and from another section of "bottom" images, click another image to display it on bottom. I'm using ul, li tags to create drop down menus. The images in my main nav bar change when mousing over the images. When I move the mouse over an image and go down to the links that appear in the drop downs, the image changes back to what it was before I moused over it.

I'm creating a webpage that will display the status of various IT systems on a large screen. The users will be helpdesk staff who will need to change the statuses of the various systems. Maybe I am approaching this in the wrong way but I thought I could use a drop down menu to enable the helpdesk to select the system status which would be either: Green, Amber or Red. I have managed to hack the following code by using something I found on the web. It almost does what I want but on selecting the colour from the drop down menu it tries to load another page. Is there any way I can stop it from doing this? The webpage should be static and I am aware that reloading it would lose any selections that the user has made.[code]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have these marketing campaigns running (like google adwords) and based on where a user comes from (google, yahoo, mns-bing, facebook) I have this referrer code passed that I collect out of the URL and I put a cookie on the user's computer based on what is included in this tag. OK so now I have to get the the cookie (which I know how to do) and based on if this cookie says website I need to show a drop down with sources for the user to choose from. That is my delimna. I typically code in PHP but this site wasn't developed by me so this cookie tracking was done in javascript. My issue is normally in PHP I can say if(referrer==website) then close off the php code and then go into the HTML but that doesn't seem to work for javascript.What I"m doing is retrieving the cooking and now all I want to do is say if the cookie is website show this drop down menu. I have two grids, they both display buttons. One grid displays numbers, true or false and yes or no, and the other grid displays letters, true, false, yes and no.
The second grid is not displayed in the code (used css to not display second grid buttons (.answerBtns)) Now using the getButtons() function, if the user selects button "1" in first grid (the grid which you have to open using (Open Grid) link, then it should display button "A" in second grid, if user selects button "2" in first grid, then it should displays buttons "A" and "B" in second grid, if "3" then display "A", "B" and "C" and so on.
Now except using if statements and stating which buttons should be displayed and not displayed depending on the button chosen in first grid, is there a more efficent way of coding this so that the display of buttons in second grid depends on what is selected in the first grid?
If it is using an array can somebody show a sample of this in their answer. You can just do it for one example and then I should be able to use that to fill it for the other buttons.
Working on a script that will add together dollar values in user selected drop downs and display on the page. I get the script to work if the total is to be displayed in a text box, but I want to do a document.write() to put it as a piece of text. I know the answer is simple, but I just don't have the experience to figure it out. I think it may have something to do with local/global scope of the variable.

I've kind of skimmed over how drop down menus work in JS(notably jquery).Also I read you put the submenu nested within it's parent link(<li>).This proves to be a problem though because my <div id="nav"> I have, is setup to display inline (horizontal) and obviously with a drop down you want that vertical..Do I have to separate the submenu from the <div id="nav">, or does the submenu have to be nested?

I have some code to pick a wire size and conduit size from 2 separate drop down list. Then inside the js it is evaluated to decide how many wires. My problem is I can't figure out how to make the drop down options go into the JS. I just put in an error alert to test if they were for now.
